St Albans: Cummings Your Way

St Albans, the jewel of the commuter belt, serves as the backdrop for an extended late summer rumination on the nature of the first awakening experiences of travel, and the passing of time in the countdown towards the return of school and encroaching retirement. Complete with a range of references to Larkin, Alfie, Aerosmith, L.P Hartley, The Golden Apples of the Sun, and, inevitably, Peter and the Test Tubes Babies. An apocryphal angry encounter with Melvyn Hayes is recalled.

Great stuff Dan, hadn't seen this one before. Never been to St Albans except passing through on _that_ train. A question - what was the name of your mate who worked in Graphic Design (as I did years later)? I remember him but not the name, there were many friends of yours like that, perhaps in the way rats are attracted to a sewer. Which is ridiculously offensive and not true but I will leave it in the hope that you can pass it off as your own.
