The big Button on top i for filtercleaning. You were correct in The flap divert The air so The exaust air from The motor blow The filter so The dirt ends upp in The bucket. With the machine on take those hoze end and put it on one buttons on The filter holderhouse to block The hoze of then press The big button on top, do that a couple of times and it cleans The filter if you do not use a bag.
I had to look up the gray button function or I'd drive me crazy! It's a filter cleaning function. You have to put the hose noozzle in one of the plugged ports over the filter, then press the gray button.
