Best video on hardwiring radar detectors yet!!! THANKS!
Well-paced informative video. I go down the rabbit hole on this kinda stuff. You likely just saved me hundreds of dollars of overthinking.
Thank you. I will do it this week. Thanks for including the parts
Very helpful video. Thanks for posting.
Great job with the video!
Really appreciate your comment! Love your channel as I have learned a lot from you. Thank you!!
Excellent video. Thank you.
Very nice! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for your comment!
Great video, I have a Jeep Renegade and it was a pain in the ass just to change a blown 12v fuse. I ordered this wiring kit, I just hope the fuse tap will fit in there. You have to remove 4 screws and two panels and even then you can't hardly get to it. Only one way to find out if it will work I guess.
very helpful, thank you
Add a circuit (fuse tap) is $10.49, hard wire $19.95, & the mirror mount is $29 on Ebay. I already have this mirror mount but using the factory power cord. I will be going w this set up soon to get rid of the annoying hanging power cord. (Lexus RC350F)
thanks! Nice job
thanks, this help!
Thanks for the informative video! I was doing this today and got nervous putting the wire across the SRS airbag @4:45 and went all the way down the A-pillar along the windshield instead. Not sure if you or anyone has thoughts on this.
Great video
great video
I used the the stock windshield mount without the suction cups my Mirror Mount. Works great.
This man does it all lol 😂
Cool!!!! Thanks, straight forward, no BS and THANK YOU NO STUPID MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!
(BTW - my late husband liked to mount from the rear...)
informative, although I still have no clue what to do. :)
What would you suggest if my fusebox cover is so close to the top of the fuses that if I try and use a fuse tap (add a fuse) I then cannot close the fusebox door?
I was curious to see how this mount is holding up for you. I am trying to decide whether to go with or the much more expensive Blend mount.
The mount I used here is a solid one. The whole thing is metal and once you tighten all the knobs, it''s solid. The only thing I wish it was better design is the clamp that goes over the mirror arm. Half the clamp is curve, the other half is flat, so you don't really have a complete wrap around clamping on the arm. Now keep in mind, all the pieces are solid metal, so you can clamp down fine, but that's the only thing I thing can be better. The one I installed is perfectly fine and I have no problem with it.
Hello, for the hardwire kit, how did you connect the positive (red cable with plastic metal prong) into the fuse tap? The fuse tap connector is circular and the hardwire kit's red cable has a flat metal connect with a plastic cover over it?
You need to cut off the flat metal connecto and then crimp the round connector from the fuse tap onto the cut wire. See 4:11 as to what it looks like. You will need to use a crimper tool to do the crimp. You can also see my how to crimp video here: ruclips.net/video/uaYdCRjDr4A/видео.html
Very informative, no nonsense video. BTW did you ever think of one of those cables that had a mute button built into them that you could place somewhere on the steering column to avoid reaching over to the detector to mute it each time.
I did look into those, but I decided I don't need one more thing to stick on the dash. Especially when I can press the mute button on the radar detector that's a foot away from me. Just my personal thought in this.
Which fuse tap would be best to get?
I see this mount isn't specifically made for this detector does it work fine
Do they sell one that connects directly to the battery instead of fuse box? I have a motorcycle
Where can I buy the hard-wire harness and the rearview mirror clamp?
Did you use mini fuse or micro2? I have a pathfinder as well and am trying to figure what size fusetap to buy
The Pathfinder uses low profile mini Low fuse:
amzn.to/2wUzkqQ
Would this be applicable to a 2011 GMC sierra 1500?
Did you cut and strip the wire on the hardwire kit to the fuse tap? Or did you somehow use the connector that came on the hardwire kit? Thx!
I cut off the hardwire kit spade connector (on the red wire) and crimped a butt connector onto the fuse tap.
This is very odd. But when i removed the 20A fuse (one of the three), first one, all 3 power sockets still work?? We have 3 outlets-one in center console, one second row and a third one in trunk and after removing the fuse, all three still work fine and charge my phone. Am i missing something? Should they work once i remove the 20A fuse??? Thanks for your response.
Ignore this. I didn’t realize we actually have 4 sockets and the first one is under radio and that is controlled by that fuse 😀
Mirror tap --- so much easier !
Thank you
How do you like the radar detector? Pros and cons?
One of the best detectors I have had. With the GPS lockout and the ability to mute alert below a certain speed limit, this reduces most of the false you get when driving in the city and parking lots. The range is also very good from day one. Now I will say, it's not 100% quiet with no false, but it's much more friendly to use compare to units without GPS, and the DSP filter.
Anybody happen to know what fuse tap i need for a 3rd gen (07) acura tl?
Will you blow a fuse if you have to many hardwire things to the same power source?
Yes you will blow the fuse if have too many things on the circuit. You should add all the current draw of each device and make sure it does not exceed the fuse rating.
dial2fast thanks for the info man I appreciated
Doesn't the rear view mirror itself have power you could plug the detector into?
not all mirrors but ones with auto dimming do
Greetings - Good Video. What Kind of fuse tap and fuse size 10, 15 or 20 would I need for a 2019 Mustang GT? Thanks
As for what fuse type, you need to take a look at your fuse box and see what type it uses. I have listed links of where you can buy each type in the video description. As to what fuse amperage rating to use, you can use a 5A or 10A fuse.
Is it shaky when driving highway?
It shakes a bit over bumps or rough road but very sturdy and no issue.
Where can I buy a fuse tap?
Find what type of fuse you need first. My Corolla used a mini fuse tap. Then just search that in ebay or amazon..
Logan Leonards how can i find out what type of fuse my car needs?
Can I use an empty slot in my fuse box?
You can as long as you test it to make sure there is voltage coming out.
How do i charge it?
How can i find out which fuse to use on my car?
First refer to the fuse panel label for reference, then test the fuse circuit with a multimeter to makes sure it's ignition 12V. Use fuse that are not critical like ABS, SRS, etc. Look for fuses that might be labeled ACC (accessory) or Power Outlet.
dial2fast thanks sorry but i meant which of the fuse taps that you listed in the description
@@goofygamer74 You can check out this video which goes over the different type of fuse types ruclips.net/video/Pj_5QqlrO9w/видео.html
dial2fast last question: how do i remove the metal piece on the red wire (from the hardwire kit) to be able to crimp it to the fuse tap wire?
What happened to the comments?
Am I the only one that noticed the initial d tag.
Having it under the mirror like that makes it difficult to reach the top controls of the radar detector. The fuse tap and ground info was beneficial. The explanation of each pin in the plug is unnecessary to to non geeks.

voltage doesnt travel bro... voltage is what overcomes resistance to allow AMPERAGE to flow. The word youre looking for is amperage. That is why those fuses are are rated as 20 AMPS because if more than 20 amps flows through it, the fuse is destroyed. Also, I wouldn't use that fuse tap to draw power, super unprofessional and just looks ratty... Next time find a switched power, constant power and use a proper relay with an inline fuse. What youre teaching here is great for the person who wants to do it quick and dirty... But you might as well do it right since you've got everything apart anyway...
Doing all the extra can void certain car warranties. If you run through the fuse, you can prove that it's all fully reversible with no negative effects.
