  • At the orangutan rescue center, hundreds of rescued orangutans are prepared for release to the forests where they can live wild and free.
    However, Hercules can never be released into the wild, after being kept in a cage so small, his hands and feet were damaged so badly he can no longer climb. But the loving staff will see to it he has a full, comfortable life ahead of him.

    If you look at Hercules' part, he lets the staff rub his hands and he kisses them in return. I don't think I've seen any other male orangutan be this chill with humans.

    Are you serious?? You name this The story of Hercules and we get less than 1 minute of his story? That sucked! Why didn't you just call this what it was? another jungle school segment.

    I feel sorry for the ones who are too big for jungle school, but have to wait for a space on the pre-release islands. They may be stuck in cages for years, and wasn't that what many were rescued from? I don’t quite understand why the ones on the pre-release islands cannot be returned to full wild faster. I know they have to show the ability to survive, but isn’t there a faster way to move the queue? Does it require extra funding or new protected jungle areas ?

      Probably both, I should think.
      It is a shame, but better than being a "pet" in a cage too small to move at all in, with a collar and chain.
