It is, I can assure you from personal experience :) This set is like a dream I didn't know I had come true. I am sure it is what some others feel about Optimus Prime :)
This is definitely from Horizon Zero Dawn, since it's the very first one you encounter in the city. All of them have a different layout of the golden plates at the neck and it fits the first one perfectly. Btw if you move all 4 legs back by one snap of the joints, the head will be perfectly horizontal instead of leaning forward.
As someone who'd easily put the Horizon games in their top 5 games of all time, this set is easily my favorite lego set of all time. It's just straight up perfect, I can't remember feeling so fulfilled after building a lego set, even ignoring how much I love the games. So much respect to the designers on this one.
It's rare that a lego set looks like a labor of love. Being included in the adult line helps in this case, no need to put in playfeatures. I would have liked some poseability, but it's a displaypiece, and it's good for that. I haven't bought lego sets in years. And i haven't played the game either. But the order is in, this set is good.
This is a beautiful set. Perfect representation of the game. Perfect price point. Wonderful building techniques. Aloy's minifig is amazing. I have absolutely no complaints about this set. Nice review.
That is a beautiful set, and I would buy it at once.....if I were familiar with the source material :( As I am not a gamer, I appreciate the quality of the product, but have no emotional attachment.
I’ve never played the games but as soon as I saw this set I fell in love. I love the build process and the design, the display of it is just incredible and it quickly became one of my favorite sets they did a really nice job with it
I finished and fell in love with both games this year and I've been a lego fan all my life, so I couldn't be happier they did this. I bought this set the day it was released and every day I marvel at how amazing it looks. I really hope they make more sets from other scenes or machines but I'm already so happy that they made this in the first place. Also quick note if you bend both legs back where the joints click once the whole body tilts up a bit and stands up straight with the head level with the ground as it should be. I wish there were specific instructions for that.
The gold elements are fairly close to what they should be for the game. The in-game colors are actually a much brighter yellow, because in the original game all the climbable surfaces were highlighted yellow. I think the gold is a good compromise between being accurate to the game and not having them stick out like a sore thumb.
Yes Jang, I agree. You just look at it and go "Wow, that is cool!" I have little idea of what it is or what it does, but I like it. I like it a lot. Love that base!
I happened to find this set on a random endcap at my local Meijer the day it released. When I was in checkout, an elderly couple was behind me and asked what it was supposed to be and who it was for. I replied: "It's basically a robot dinosaur..... And it's for me." It was quite a wholesome moment. I can't wait to build it and Jang did an awesome review of the set!
This might be my favorite set of the year so far. It looks beautiful, includes an awesome figure and is a very useful parts pack, all at a great value. While the new SW dioramas throw quotes at you screaming that they want to be desirable collectibles, this set here just casually is and I love that!
Totally agree! Didn't expect it coming that good. This, along with the upcoming Optimus Prime, seem to be amazing display pieces, rivaling actual action figures, and accordingly priced. The Aloy minifigure is top notch.
When you said it looks like he's leaning back he isn't, that the way it stands, it's neck is shaped like that. This is one of the most spot on Lego sets in a long time. They nailed it. Another fantastic video, I love when you're excited for a set, makes the rest of us excited.
The fact that this set comes with a Watcher rather than a Burrower is the first sign that the designer used Zero Dawn not Forbidden west as a reference.
Wouldn't mind a Horizon series of robots... same with the Optimus Prime set. A Transformers series of transformable characters... Oh man, too many sets, too little money.
vote with your wallet dude. I'm on the fence about this one mostly because FOMO about the current Mega Construx Halo Pelican with a Brohammer figure that might never get made again. But I think I'll save this one for next pay period, to vote with my wallet
This is one of the few times I’m actually okay with the price. I also never played the game but the thing itself looks very interesting. It’s an eyecatcher even if you doubt know about the origin. The minifigure is also very nice. This set is already going for 60€ in Europe and I even got it for 45€. With that price in mind it’s basically cheap. I’m happy with everything about this set
I've played both games, and I adore this set. I really want the Aloy minifig if nothing else, I'm also not mad at the limited articulation, given the tallneck's unique stride they didn't need to do a lot of joints.
Thinking about buying it, I have the perfect nook for it on my desk and it looks fantastic. It's just that I never played the games and have no feelings toward the souce material
Thanks Jang, great review. I bought this set in store here in Australia a few weeks ago a couple of days before release which is something I never do but as you said there is something just good about this set and so good to build too. I'm not a gamer at all and I really liked it first time I saw it.
despite the fact that I watch basically all your reviews this is the first Lego set that I've actually purchased in probably five or six years and I'm so so happy with it I'm a huge fan of horizon
just finished mine...even if you've never played this game, this is a really cool set that is also affordable (1200 pieces under $90-wow...)...i enjoyed every minute of building it...
I pushed the whole model on the base forward and all the legs moved one click. Now the model stands perfectly as if its straightened out with the dish head perfectly horizontal.
i was super hyped when i saw the trailer for this, i loved the first game and definitely fell in love with these stoic graceful giants, somehting about them gives me inner peace and i love how this set looks. im just about to finish the head and yeah! the base is mesmerizing
Big fan of the games. Just finished Forbidden West and just ordered this set. The set I ordered is labeled as "Zero Dawn" (The first game). I believe they have reboxed it to reflect the newer game.
Thanks for this review ! I too am not a gamer but this set is Awesome ! The colors are fantastic combination. The tan, blue grey, & black offset the white beautifully. The base has just the right amount of extras to set up the whole seen. 💖
The price and the build are fantastic. I had to get it immediately when it came out and just finished building it last night and I am super happy with this build. I also built recently the Batman Tumbler you mentioned because it was one of those builds that looked good and the price was great ($32).
As a huge Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West fan, I really want this kit but it sold out ludicrously fast - I checked online at 1am day of release - gone. Did a store check in the morning (my local is 25ish miles away), had it in stock. In the time it took me to drive there, sold out. Turns out they got less than 20. I've noticed Lego seem to be having issues with forecasting demand recently. Titanic, Delorean, Tallneck, T-Rex diorama and so on.
I also really appreciate the restraint they showed with pricing. They could have made something and charged $150 for it. But they didn't. With how expensive lego is getting, I really appreciate that this is within the range of what I can afford for a quality display model
Had a lot of fun building this one, and I hope the sales are good enough that Lego/Guerrilla Games think about making other sets. Until then I'm probably going to look for some other MOCs of Horizon machines to build (a few months back I built a smaller version of the Tallneck I found instructions online for)
I guess you could try to put it in a walking pose by changing the angle of the "knee joints"? Just turn the piece around? Probably will get this one, looks real good despite it not being proportionate or being minifig scale (would be another giant dust collector)
It's fascinating to me what lego can do when they don't put money first. This set is pretty much perfect as a model set. I'm not a fan of stickers on play sets since they will peel. But here it's just perfect. As someone who doesn't support lego anymore, this is one I definitely will buy to promote good work like this. As a fan of horizon its also so perfect
Heres a little fun fact about Tallneck: When it moves it lifts both front and hind legs on one side of its body every time it makes a step, leaving the legs on the other side to balance the creature/machine when walking.
I haven’t finished Horizon Zero Dawn but I absolutely loved what I did play. I remember hunting the tallnecks to fill out the map and it was really fun. I haven’t bought lego in ages and I knew I had to get this set. Too bad its constantly selling out.
My only complaint with this set is that I missed it on day 1 when it sold out, and it took until last week for Lego to restock it so I could finally get my hands on it! I've never seen a new set stay out of stock for so long.
Favorite set. Love the oval base, love the techniques used. I changed the thighs on the watcher immediately though. Blaster with studs on bottom front sides plus a round tile with bar, it creates that more Z shape to the leg. More chicken like. They are a bit fiddly but not bad. The tile with bar slots in well into the body of the Watcher and doesn’t pop out easy.
Just found one at Target Australia after being Sold out everywhere and the lowest on Ebay being AU$185 without pictures... Target AU had one on sale for AU$103 (80USD) down from the RRP AU$129 for some reason... so this is a win for me.
I don’t know if they’d do more sets, but I hope so. The ‘robot dinosaur/animal’ aesthetic I think has relatively broad appeal beyond fans of the game. This is the most ‘gamey’ creature and I think eg the Thunderjaw or one of the rideable creatures would have even more appeal
I managed to get one last week and got it shipped. The box arrived in a questionable condition, didn’t order it from LEGO. This is, by far, one of the best building experiences. It has its own secrets and surprises, but the result is almost as good to me as the 1989 Batmobile. The value in pieces, variety and the overall quality of the entire thing may allow this set to stand the test of time much like the rest of the Machines in Horizon: they all look phenomenal, the Thunderjaw being… jawdropping… and the Broadhead being my favorite mount in any game I’ve played thanks to the sound and visual design. I’m not a big fan of Horizon’s RPG elements, but the creatures and the combat really made me interested in what crazy stuff they could offer. I’ve yet to play Forbidden West because I hope it’ll be on PC someday. A great set, that’s that.
So on the lil watcher build, the neck should have been a 1x2 with ball joint on both ends? I never played the game either but I watched some game play and it looks great. I just want the figure
Set of the year material for me and I am coming from an extremely biased standpoint, absolutely loving both games and finding them to be Top 3 of Playstation must-plays. The set is gorgeous!
Well designed set. True to the game, overall great aesthetics. Not mind-blowing, but a really clean set that delivers. They should explore more Horizon and mech-style collabs if they can keep up this quality.
This makes me optimistic about the future for diorama sets. It would be personally awesome to see sets based on Crash Bandicoot's N'sanity Beach or Mega Man's many iconic boss fights.
I was so excited to get this set when I saw it in a LEGO store on vacation. Unfortunately, it seems like it’s not for casual builders, as you apparently need the patience and skill of a Lego Master. The legs and connections on the legs to the body constantly fall apart on me, and don’t even bother trying to get them to stick properly to the ground layer, as the whole thing will fall apart on you again. Maybe I’m not good enough, but I personally find this set to simply just be disappointing, especially as a Horizon fan.
When I played Zero Dawn I thought they were some kind of area bosses and turned out they were just some tame glorified walking 5G towers. Man I was having some doubts about it but it just looks so beautiful, I've seen Star Wars UCS and other "display" model sets but this is the only set I really feel proud to have in display in my living room and not shoved in a shelf in my man cave, it's not toy like it's not some big gray plastic mountain it really looks like a pretty diorama set made with building blocks, IDK but I really need to find one for myself now.
You know what would be awesome, Subnautica sets. Imagine a Reaper Leviathan or Ghost Leviathan with a Cyclops or something. Might be a little big but it’d be really cool.
Imagine being a lego fan and a fan of this game. It's a match made in heaven
Me? Haha.
Good thing im both! Even if the size is off, its a great set overall.
yes hi hello
It is, I can assure you from personal experience :) This set is like a dream I didn't know I had come true. I am sure it is what some others feel about Optimus Prime :)
That's how I feel about the DeLorean. But now I will wait for the day they release a Legend of Zelda Lego set...
Yeah I wish there were specific instructions for positioning it correctly
Exactly. It may be based od an Ideas design, made before Forbidden West was out.
As someone who'd easily put the Horizon games in their top 5 games of all time, this set is easily my favorite lego set of all time. It's just straight up perfect, I can't remember feeling so fulfilled after building a lego set, even ignoring how much I love the games. So much respect to the designers on this one.
The music at the start of every Jang review has become so iconic.
5:50 While the yellow might stick out there, I'd actually say it's more accurate than gold and I wish all of the gold parts were yellow too
I think they used gold to emphasize how those bits are highlighted by the Focus.
This set feels Worth its price compared to the dagobah set
This is a beautiful set. Perfect representation of the game. Perfect price point. Wonderful building techniques. Aloy's minifig is amazing. I have absolutely no complaints about this set. Nice review.
This is the gold standard of licensed sets in my opinion. Great review
Gorgeous looking set, hopefully this set sells well so we can see more and more videogame diorama sets. Great review as always, Jang!
That is a beautiful set, and I would buy it at once.....if I were familiar with the source material :( As I am not a gamer, I appreciate the quality of the product, but have no emotional attachment.
if you like post apocalyptic stuff it may be worth watching a playthrough of both games, they're excellent.
Well, Horizon Zero Dawn rewards careful gameplay, so if you want to get into games, HZD is a good place to start.
I’ve never played the games but as soon as I saw this set I fell in love. I love the build process and the design, the display of it is just incredible and it quickly became one of my favorite sets they did a really nice job with it

Just built mine and it's a damn good set! Loved every minute of building it and the model is absolutely perfect. Just loved it!

I think the gold is a good compromise between being accurate to the game and not having them stick out like a sore thumb.
As a massive fan of both Horizon and Lego, this set is very much an unexpected yet welcomed addition to my collection.
Yes Jang, I agree. You just look at it and go "Wow, that is cool!" I have little idea of what it is or what it does, but I like it. I like it a lot. Love that base!
I think Lego should make more sets with licenses of things tailored to people older than children, it would be cool to see a God of War one
I happened to find this set on a random endcap at my local Meijer the day it released. When I was in checkout, an elderly couple was behind me and asked what it was supposed to be and who it was for. I replied:

The fact that it can articulate and also be a pure display model is very impressive!

Wouldn't mind a Horizon series of robots... same with the Optimus Prime set. A Transformers series of transformable characters... Oh man, too many sets, too little money.
I’d love a Thunderjaw that scales similar. I know some fan Mocs exist.
story of my life, especially this year so many good sets!
I know this isn’t the video at hand, but my god that Optimus set is beautiful
vote with your wallet dude. I'm on the fence about this one mostly because FOMO about the current Mega Construx Halo Pelican with a Brohammer figure that might never get made again. But I think I'll save this one for next pay period, to vote with my wallet
15:25 is just so hilarious and caught me off guard
This is one of the few times I’m actually okay with the price. I also never played the game but the thing itself looks very interesting. It’s an eyecatcher even if you doubt know about the origin. Wife just got this for me as an anniversary gift. So excited to build it! Love the games and I’m stoked to add it to my collection!

little tip, bend the four legs back just a little bit (only one peg) for the head to be leveled
I love this build, as someone who played the games this feels spot on and it looks great on display.
That is amazing!Lego really needs to expand and start making more sets like this.
just finished mine...even if you've never played this game, this is a really cool set that is also affordable (1200 pieces under $90-wow...)...i enjoyed every minute of building it...

The build for the Tallneck head could be borrowed to make the disk for small Star Trek Federation builds.
Amazing set, I would love a whole series of machines
This is why Lego needs to do more video game sets. Everyone wants to get their hands on the sets.
I tried to get it, but it was sold out everywhere day one…
Big fan of the games. Just finished Forbidden West and just ordered this set. The set I ordered is labeled as "Zero Dawn" (The first game). I believe they have reboxed it to reflect the newer game.

Still waiting for mine to ship, it’s been “in warehouse” for the past few days. Salivating for it to come

Heres a little fun fact about Tallneck:
When it moves it lifts both front and hind legs on one side of its body every time it makes a step, leaving the legs on the other side to balance the creature/machine when walking.
It's nice to see when they find a use for a piece like the urukhai sword that they haven't made for the last few years.
I haven’t finished Horizon Zero Dawn but I absolutely loved what I did play. I remember hunting the tallnecks to fill out the map and it was really fun. I haven’t bought lego in ages and I knew I had to get this set. Too bad its constantly selling out.
One of the best compact builds, and licensed builds too.
I had no idea you were a Gundan fan! love the Sazabi Ver Ka on the back shelf
I don't mind lack of knees on 'statue' type models. (I yes it can be removed but to me it feels like it belongs on that base)
My only complaint with this set is that I missed it on day 1 when it sold out, and it took until last week for Lego to restock it so I could finally get my hands on it! I've never seen a new set stay out of stock for so long.
I am happy that they are branching out to different themes.
Favorite set. Love the oval base, love the techniques used. I changed the thighs on the watcher immediately though. Hi!
Whats your thoughts on the new bricklink designer program batch coming May 17th?
So excited for this to arrive! (Ordered it first thing in the UK and it went to back order within minutes!)
Just found one at Target Australia after being Sold out everywhere and the lowest on Ebay being AU$185 without pictures... Target AU had one on sale for AU$103 (80USD) down from the RRP AU$129 for some reason... so this is a win for me.
I have no clue what so ever from what game/serie or movie this model is, but I LOVE IT!!! 😁
Anyone else struggled with the traffic light vine?
Can’t say I did, it tends to turn the traffic light a bit though
LEGO should really make a series of sets of this theme! For real
That head just makes me want a Lego Enterprise haha
I think it's OK that the neck can't be moved. These things stand proud.
This is the U.S.S. Enterprise as a living creature.
Calling it tall might be an understatement,
Nicely done. These lego tie ins are looking really good. I can only dream that maybe one day they make a Lego version of old school Zoids.
Can't wait to pick this one up when it's not sold out everywhere!
Soon as I seen it I had to order it,also bought the led light kit for it aswell
It’s good, but it’s no Stuntz bath bike…
I don’t know if they’d do more sets, but I hope so. The ‘robot dinosaur/animal’ aesthetic I think has relatively broad appeal beyond fans of the game. This is the most ‘gamey’ creature and I think eg the Thunderjaw or one of the rideable creatures would have even more appeal
Seeing the top of the head just makes me want an NCC-1701-D from Star Trek
Would love to see a thunderjaw set as well
Wish they'd made a quiver hip accessory.
I wasn't sure whether I would like this one or not so I bit the bullet and tried it and honestly it's awesome, really cool design for sure!
I have this set. As this is my fav game of all time I made sure to get one before they are sold out.
Puts the new Star Wars dioramas to shame as far as value goes.
I would really like Lego to make a whole line of the Horizon series, but idk if they are already overstretched with themes.
I love this. It looks so elegant.
what is that lego set in the background that looks like an angel with the wings?
I think the UK price is a tad expensive, but given the quality of the set as a whole, I am not surprised that it sold out on the first day.
Set of the year material for me and I am coming from an extremely biased standpoint, absolutely loving both games and finding them to be Top 3 of Playstation must-plays. The set is gorgeous!
I really like this set. It certainly made me happy when I first saw it :)
As a big fan of the games, this set looks beautiful and the price is actually reasonable. Will buy once it’s back in stock. Not surprised it sold out.
The Horizon games have a lot of cool mechinal creature designs that would be amazing to see made into Lego sets.
This is a gorgeous model. I don't do so much Lego these days, but this is seriously tempting
I am considering getting this but by the time I thought about buying it the set was sold out.
What a nice set, and a great Aloy!
It looked great on picture, still look great here. A tiny bit surprised/disappointed by the lack of articulation but no big deal.
Well designed set. True to the game, overall great aesthetics. Not mind-blowing, but a really clean set that delivers. They should explore more Horizon and mech-style collabs if they can keep up this quality.
