Almost no-one thought he was going to beat Barao, and at the time Dana was hyping up Barao as the #1 P4P fighter in the world.

I watched this fight live lit on mushrooms. It was so inspiring because TJ was such an underdog. In hindsight knowing the importance of footwork and movement in fights, it's pretty clear TJ's style was going to win. Which is what people thought of Cruz against Barao.
To be fair, Barao was using ivs to rehydrate after a crazy weight cut which became harder to sneak as USADA was making their entrance. Therefore, his cardio was never the same since every weight cut was brutal for him. Also, bw started to massively improve and Barao just couldn't keep up or even maintain the same power. Moving up to fw was a mistake because he would have even less power against bigger guys who hit harder than the guys he was accustomed to fighting.
TJ at his peak was one of the most impressive fighters I've ever seen. Some of his performances were unbelieveable, he had next level movement, speed, and accuracy. It's a shame he has to deal with the EPO shit for the rest of his career. There's probably active UFC champions taking some of that same stuff and getting away with it. In all seriousness, I think there are tons of guys pointing the finger at TJ who are sauced up right now. If you think none of TJ's opponents were juiced, you're out of your mind. USADA isn't perfect and guys are most definitely getting away with cheating. The same guys who blasted TJ for getting caught and owning up to it. I don't bother with who's on stuff or who isn't. I just assume they're all taking something. The best will still be the best, with or without it. People are going to take every advantage they can get to win, especially with potentially millions of dollars at stake.

The skills do the talking at the end of the day but if they're beasts also yeah they can do tons of damage and win but I'm still confident enough to let opponents use steroids and I'll still drop them.
