Arizona State and BYU are 1 and 2 in the Sagarin power rankings, too. Arizona State is #13, BYU is #18. Sagarin power rankings have been my go-to ranking system for decades. Interestingly, BYU is #1 in the Big 12 in SP+ rankings. I believe that ranking system is based on predictive criteria, i.e. if teams were to play today at a neutral venue, who would be predicted to win.
The biggest thing about the SEC that bugged me this year was how they touted strength of schedule when they had a close loss to another SEC team but said nothing about strength of schedule with the three non conference cupcake wins. I like a lot of the teams in the SEC, but I think many if them were overrated this season.

@@Nemo_Fiyah BYU didn't play or beat a P2 opponent all season. Colorado has never beaten a team that has finished in the top 40. BYU almost lost to OSU and Utah. BYU almost lost to SMU who didn't have Jennings starting that game. So any team beating CU is not a flex, and definitely not for BYU.

That's only if you consider power ranking to be about winning football games against FBS opponents with a 6-6 record or better, head to head play using wins against higher ranked teams for tie breaker. Never really thought of that. I already eliminated FCS opponents in the equation. The problem I could see for that is conference play. It would be hard to assign a deduction for 5-7 overall or worse when it is a conference required game. What kind of ideas are you thinking? Go easy, I'm a WVU fan, even though they were 6-6 (6-7), they had ZERO wins against any 6-6 or better opponent. 🤦🏼
