    As stated in the video, Ashley has several textures of hair. Some zig zag, some curly etc. However, since the hair typing system is so limited, she considers her texture 4c AND since no one in the comments has ever experienced Ashley’s hair in person, y’all are not qualified to tell her otherwise, good day🤗

      Omg I’m so glad I’m not the only one it’s hair like that, because my hair (mostly my back) is definitely more coiled 4b but people are steady trying to categorize it as a 3c but don’t actually see how it looks dry, it’s very irritating when people try to tell you what your hair is😂😕

      @ AlexaRogers....Yes. RUclips acts as if some of us dont have multi-textured hair. I have 3 different textures from crown to sides, to back. Does anyone else find themselves using different products for the different portions of their hair?

      I use the same products but different amounts on different curls/textures, the coiliest areas need more product and more hold.

    I really believe the stigma about 4c hair is that most people who have it aren’t properly moisturizing or moisturizing enough at all.. all these “natural hair rules” such as using all these oils which are essentially sealing moisture out of the hair.. sometimes people don’t know the true potential of what their hair can be because they just don’t know what to do.. btw that hair typing system is worth shit.. cuz how many of us actually has just one texture throughout our whole head anyway ?.. just moisturize your hair and keep it clean and watch what happens 🤷🏽‍♀️
    But I’m just ranting

      Thank you!!!!!! This has been bothering me with some natural girls I see. All these oils and no moisture. I'm crying when I see it cause I know their hair is dehydrated due to all the sealing. I'm glad I'm not there only one who sees this. Learn what works for you hair!

Every time I do a wash and go people believe I did something special to my hair. It honestly gets annoying that people think I have no curl pattern or always saying negative things about my hair.

      Jassy I do have 4C hair! And with the right products it curls up. You can CLEARLY see her 4C hair after she washed it. With the right products (the Aussie) and technique, it curled up. 4C hair doesn’t curl as easily as type 3 hair does, but it can curl. You can literally find 4C wash n gos and see the same results. Quit being ignorant

      4z's are the only naturals in the struggle going thru something. Folks make a mockery of us claim to have our hair and be in our shoes and do these vids. We 4z get rejected by men and the black race and people use our struggle to sell products scam and get subscribers. we really need to separate and form our own natural hair community cause our hair obviously is a thing apart from other textures thats why we are mistreated by even natural stylists. the natural movement is not about being natural is about not looking like a 4z period.

  • @blackdiamondnr
    @blackdiamondnr 5 лет назад +412

    Y’all do realize hair type has nothing to do with what products you use? It has more to do with the porosity of your hair. When I first went natural I kept searching for someone with the same texture, wondering why my hair didn’t look like theirs. Stop focusing on the type and listen to your hair. And for those of you who do “type”, her hair isn’t 4c it just wasn’t moisturized before. It’s all in the products and how they are applied. Type 4c has a zigzag not a coil.

      Say. It. Again. I’m so tired of people focusing on the pattern. Most products on the market are geared towards high porosity (see: protein). These products worked so well for my hair in the south away from my hair stylist for months at a time. I was able to manage and protect my hair with these products. If she wants to call her hair 4c then fine (it’s not, but whatever) but YOU as a youtuber shouldn’t use 4c in the title as click bait. 4c girls have to scroll pages in order to find hair that actually resembles ours. You could’ve at the very least just put “type 4” in the title that way it’s not the first video that pops up when I type in 4c hair..

    • @AvianaPenny
      @AvianaPenny 5 лет назад +15

      Also, since a lot of y’all have it confused. Dryness and frizziness are simply characteristics of 4c hair, NOT WHAT MAKES SOMEONES HAIR 4c. The grading scale is simply about the way the curl is shaped. 4c hair is tightly coiled curls shaped like a spring. 4c curls will not have the form of a wave or a squiggle. Grading matters because representation matters. If I’m on RUclips trying to see how a style will look on hair like mine then it doesn’t help if I’m watching someone whose incorrectly typed their hair.

    I don’t care for hair typing but from research I read that your “hair type” is defined by what the hair looks like after you wash with with no product or manipulation. Before the product was added, she had very tightly curled hair. It was very fuzzy and kinky. So I’m not understanding what the confusion is about. But that’s why I don’t care for the system. People get too caught up in hair type like it’s all that matters when it comes natural hair. There’s so much confusion and disagreement over something so irrelevant.

    Y’all are acting so ignorant about this typing system. No two people even if they have the same “hair type” are going to look exactly the same. The hair types are GENERAL classifications to help broadly identify how to care for your hair. You can fall into more than one, be on the border or have different hair types in different areas. I have 3c hair but it doesn’t look like the next persons with 3c because I am my own person my 3c hair is more frizzy low porosity and fine because I have my OWN SET OF GENETICS that make up my hair specifically. But if I want to classify myself into the typing system I would fall into 3c in general. Idk how y’all don’t get that

      Hair type is based on curl size not texture. Just looking at the size of her curls when defined you can tell she's not 4c. She's type 4 yes, but not 4c.

    DiamondCandyTV This was a good review of the product, her hair looks great, so thanks for the video sis!! Would love to see it on day 2 or 3 hair. I also really like that you took the time to do the product review on a different texture hair. I have locs so I’m not very up to date on the latest conversations about hair type in the “loose” natural hair community. I kinda forgot there can be SUCH discord about hair types... but I get it. To me shrinkage is a defining characteristic and what separates looser curls from really tightly coiled hair. I have yet to see looser/bigger curls with 80%+ shrinkage. My coils are literally the size of the spring in a pen and many of my curls completely flatten and look like a single circle but when stretched can be 2-3 inches.
    With that said, I am learning a lot from everyone’s comments about all the different characteristics of our hair: density, porosity, protein sensitivity, curl pattern and how that effects how a product will “perform” in our hair. Before my locs, my stretched out shoulder length natural hair would do what it does best, defy the heck out of gravity and shrink up to a short Afro (similar to the model). No hair was sweeping my neck or anything lol! That’s MY definition of 4c hair. But I also acknowledge my curl pattern isn’t completely uniform. We all have to acknowledge that- most of us have a variety of textures but may have one that is dominant.
    I think it’s sad there are so many divisive comments among the natural hair community that has grown to such a beautiful, dynamic and strong community. However, the tighter curl patterns with major shrinkage (and therefore shorter length hair WHEN WET, without product and not manipulated) are still under represented. It’s not that we don’t exist, it’s just that we still don’t get as much exposure as looser/bigger, less shrinkage hair which is often longer. Perhaps it’s bc there are fewer 4c youtubers? I remember I tried the shingling method before I locked my hair in 2005. The method (pre RUclips) was pretty new at the time and was made popular by those mixed twins who had/have a salon in NYC. The pics on their site had people with longer and looser textured hair. So when my hair didn’t look anything like what was promised or at the very least suggested by the stylists, I was really discouraged (remember this was 2005, the natural hair community was just forming and still primarily just pictures on hair forums or personal blogs). Like others have posted here, curl poppin definition is highly desired and valued so for those of us whose curls don’t define as much or at all, it can be frustrating.
    On a personal level I realized I really started to love my hair when I stopped trying to make it do what it doesn’t do. My natural hair doesn’t flap or bounce in the wind. Its super power is maintaining a super hold without the use of hair spray 💁🏾‍♀️ And I’m proud of that now! I love my little coils, I’m even proud of my shrinkage- it actually leaves me in awe that each coil can stretch or retract so much!
    Thanks again for the video, keep up the great work sis!!!

    When people call dry 4a/4b hair 4c hair, they keep perpetuating the idea that 4c hair don't have defined coils because they are dry and lacking moisture. It's absolutely not true. There are plenty of people with healthy moisturised 4c hair whose coils aren't clearly defined and it's perfectly okay. People aren't saying that her hair aren't 4c because her hair curls and coils are defined but because they are too big to be 4c coils. Just lookup 4c texture shot or "maximum hydration 4c hair" before calling any dry undefined hair 4c hair.

I have low porosity which mean as soon as water touches my shit it does NOT penetrate.. hers penetrated as sooooon as the water hit it ... her curls are loose 4C hair does not have a loose curl pattern! She does not have coils and kinks she has cuuuuurls! And don’t sit up here and say “ oh just because it’s not YOUR 4C hair , doesn’t mean it’s not” well tf if it’s not like mine and it looks like hers then it’s not 4C lol she has a different grade of hair all together! You can go to any 100% West African youtuber hair channel and see that their 4ddd hair can change textures ( and grow waist length) when using ayuverdic herbs, aloe vera or even avocados.. If you're going to debate, keep up with what's going on in the world of natural hair. WORLDWIDE not just here in the states. AND the reason YOUR low porosity hair ISN'T getting moisture is because YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO REMEDY THIS. USE HEAT. meaning, sit under a dryer, thermo cap or wrap yo head in scarf and wear a hat to trap in heat when deep conditioning... Be mean to your hair, it will be mean to you!!

Too many easily and or unjustifiably triggered people in the world in general tbh. Because even if there were differences of opinion on type/texture , they could've voiced it without confrontational motives. Anyway, I watched your other video reviewing Aussie 3 minute miracle curls. And I wasn't at all skeptical of how good it would be because I used the Aussie 3 minute miracle deep conditioner they had/have out already since some years back and it was very good even then and it wasn't even made for natural hair specifically. I had never thought of Aussie ever being a brand I could use but that conditioner was stunning. It was so moisturizing and quickly became a favorite of a lot of people that I know. It is extremely dry no matter what you put on. There is no curl definition so no videos to be made about defining curls. It is extremely fragile, dry and breaks easy. Most do not want to see that. Most 4C hair on RUclips is in locs or TWAs, which are the best options for true 4C. I have 100% 4C hair that is thick and almost to my waist in SLs and it is gorgeous because I stopped trying to force a curl pattern that wasn't there.

      Oh. Well if the comments were referring to the model I apologize. I believed they were talking about you in the last video because the model clearly has type 4 hair.
      And I’m referring to natural hair videos as a whole that claim to achieve certain results when the model started with looser hair. The fact that you state you hair type in other videos is great! But there are plenty of youtubers who make reviews just to give unrealistic expectations.
      At the beginning of the video, you seemed to not understand why people would be frustrated seeing another review by a type 3ish natural. The reason people commented is because videos like that take up so much space in nature hair videos it almost becomes implied that they are supposed to work for everyone.
      If you really wanna make impactful videos (not that you have to!), I’d recommend doing more collabs with type 4b/4c naturals because this is the hair type that needs the most advice, but receives the least coverage in natural hair spaces.

    Hey Ashley love ur hair! My hair is closest to yours, and I'm happy to see someone with hair so similar cuz it's hard to have structure without twist outs. Also I would love to see y'all do mane and tail because that made my hair curls come out it's the only thing! I was so happy when I used it. I use the Aussie co wash and it smells good, and is soft ❤

    You are so silly, but in a great way lol... I received the same responses when I found my staple products that had my hair popping. When it was in it’s curly state I kept being asked how did I get my hair like that, a texturizer and when I flat iron it the same people lead with is it all yours kmsl... I fell in love with your hair it is gorgeous. I am growing out a little more of heat damage and am looking forward to trying the new line. I use 2 of their items but had no idea this was out. I love the way you handled the naysayers though. Thank you.

    The best way to apply products to any type of wavy/curly hair is for it to be soaking wet. To avoid one strand knots you can do the banding method it works for me as I have 3c 4a and a small section of 4b

Last wash day i was trying to use up all my conditioners so i had treseme, herbal essensces and pantene in my hair and my hair soaked up the pantene the fasted and I was able to detangle it the easiest. My 7 yr old has 4c hair. When I started washing and conditioning it with the products that I use as well as moisturizing it with a leave in conditioner, curling cream and daily moisturizer it began to hold a now permanent curl pattern. I also spritz her hair with water almost everyday. 4C hair CAN look and actually be healthy. It just takes time and routine.

    Stop saying that this is not 4c hair! It just doesn't look like your 4c hair lol. First all hair falls into 2 categories curly or straight! We aren't debating science here! 2nd 4c is the tightest curl pattern! Imagine instead of hair this is clothing. If you can't shop in normal stores, you go to size! Right? Do all those plus sizes look the size lol? Even wearing the same size clothes? Nope! Lol. Some have waistlines some don't. Some have great curves. Some don't but it's the same clothing size! You need to live your best life and not expect to see your twin online lmao!

      Nya nah there was a lot of 4a in the back for sure, the front looked like it had heat damage, and if not it was 3c. Her hair is shorter than mine & just as loose (3c/4a). For future reference, a 3c coil is about the circumference of a straw & a 4a coil is about the circumference of a coffee stirrer

      This is also why @moknowshair doesn’t believe in hair typing because nothing is accurate. Most people with curly hair have different textures on their head. Hair typing doesn’t even narrow your texture down. All I’m saying is that while her hair is wet & no products are in it, her curls are very tightly coiled that it looks like a z-pattern, s-pattern girls have a little more weight to then which make them look “bigger in size”. Bottom line is: her hair is not just 4C but that is her basic hair type without adding the additional textures. If that makes any sense

    • @extraordinaryminx
      @extraordinaryminx 5 лет назад

      & just because someone’s hair is drier or frizzier doesn’t make it 4C either. Just saying.....

    I think this a good idea for established RUclipsrs with different hair textures to reach out to each other and try the same products TOGETHER on video (split screens I'm sure can be done if your in different locales). This will show UNITY and will show us that the same hair textures can use the same products with both good & bad results.
