As i tried explaining in a comment on your last video... If it would be financially worth it, Vegas would not get the race. It always comes with a financial hit and hopefully your gain in non-tangibles makes up for it. F1 makes money for F1, not for the places hosting the races.

My best guess - it's gonna be hard to tell the true economic impact until years from now, when a few F1 races have already happened in Vegas. With all that infrastructure that needed built for the race, will the following years have a smoother transition to "race time"? My last 2 trips were impacted by the construction and road closures (April and October). I knew what was going on and was very interested in the logistics involved in such an event, but I'd rather my next trip not have all the F1 reminders. Would love to be there in person to see this event, but my pockets aren't that deep and I don't gamble enough money to get any decent comps. F1 is better on TV anyhow.

When I got my 2nd write up in one week after 8 years of never getting written up I gave my notice. I had never been late before.
I actually already had it prepared and gave it to my chef after signing the write up.
The look on kis face was epic while reading it. He asked why and I explained I had no intention of getting fired do to being late.
That was 3 weeks ago, my new job is about a block from my house. it's amazing not spending an hour a day in traffic to get to and from work. That was before the construction started, after it was 2.5 hours to get to work and almost 2 to get home.

      To be honest,
I didn't "have to quit" every cook in the kitchen a week ago has more than enough points (probably double) to be fired, and the reality is they can't fire everyone. But I couldn't having that hanging over my head.
      Fun fact,
In 2021 I was employee of the year, two of the things highlighted at the banquet was that I had never been late or written up. Now I had been written up twice in one week.
The thing is I was done with that traffic. I live only 11 miles from the resort my commute was typically 20-25 minutes. That became anywhere from 2 to 4.5 hours one way.

Jacob. I've been a regular Las Vegas visitor since 2000. Anyone visiting for the first time for the last few weeks will never want to return. The spectacular architecture, signage and great views of the strip obscured by barricades and tons of metal bleachers, gates and light stands. All the free attractions on the strip shut down for the race or blocked from view: Venetian canals drained. Mirage volcano shut down, Bellagio fountains blocked/obscured and the trees along the front all chopped down. The best views North & South on the strip were from all the pedestrian bridges crossing Las Vegas Boulevard, but now those views have been blocked. Nightmare driving on the strip and streets anywhere near the Strip. Whole parts of the Strip now blocked from even walking. Closed restaurants and shows during the event. F1 fans visiting Las Vegas for the first time might be happy with their experience, but everyone else, who would be the majority, will be sorry they came anywhere near Las Vegas during this debacle. It's probably a mistake now, as long as the race remains, to visit Las Vegas for 3-4 months before the race, to a month or 2 after, basically cutting out half the year almost.

It was not a pleasant experience considering that a big part of the Strip's allure is walking around and marveling at the buildings. You can't do that anymore. I'll imagine that this will be the case for roughly half the year as they constantly construct and tear down. All of this for a three day event. My whole Strip experience is soured over this. It’s yet another example of the way Vegas has changed. The big casino operators have all decided to make it a resort area for the wealthy. Gone are the days of catering to ordinary folks, we just don’t spend or lose enough money. The proliferation of fees, charging for parking, ceasing comps (except for the biggest gamblers), and just plain gouging folks as much as they can is the new business model. I’m never likely returning there and will choose to spend my leisure time and money elsewhere. My 6-8 annual visits are done. I tried returning after the pandemic and after 3 or 4 trips realized things were getting progressively worse. Vegas doesn’t want me, they want wealthier spendthrifts. The F1 crowd is exactly what they’re looking for. As far as locals are concerned, I doubt very much they care about them as long as their revenue and profits increase. I’m hoping to find places they want my business. And if I want to visit a resort it’ll be an actual resort, not the contrived one in Vegas.

We shall find out next year during tax season. Pretty sure Vegas picked it this year because this year Vegas doesn't just host the first of many F1 races because those repairs of those roads were overdue but because they are hosting multiple finals. From the Superbowl to the in season NBA tournament. The Las Vegas Aces and Vegas Knights who just won their championship. The race is being hosted during Thanksgiving weekend which Vegas has been waiting for. Construction next year won't be taking as long for repaving the roads. In the end the county needed to repave the roads and liberty media underestimated the costs and now realized they are shortening themselves unless this F1 race will gain more fans

@@henrylam92 And in the end, it's about keeping Vegas as a tourist location even when there is a looming recession. It sucks for us locals for a bit, but tax revenue.. yeah, roads and schools and so on will maybe be getting some repairs and upgrades. This is the reality of a tourist town. We are basically a 3 million person cruise ship and we have to deal with it to get the secondary benefits as the crew. All in all, not bad considering we pay nothing in state income tax.
And, trust me, Los Angeles is far worse to live in. Hour commute is just the norm, smog, insane taxes, and impossible rent. This is pulling off a band aid by comparison and will be over in a few weeks. For a billion dollars or more moving through the local economy.

We used to have F1 in Adelaide (Australia), and still have Supercars, basically on the same track that winds it's way through the CBD and large public parklands. Traffic is impacted for local workers for several weeks but the major viewing stand construction is in the parklands, away from businesses/commuters.
Your race is totally different, the impact on businesses/workers/transportation/tourists is massive as it is focused in the revenue-generating area.

We want them to build stands and obstructions and tie themselves in knots as that's money going into local unions and construction workers. Build 20 more bridges and walls - it's all money staying here :) We want them to foot more of the bill and get less back out of us. lol. Seems like it's a case of 'killing the goose that lays the golden egg',

Just a personal preference, but I love the unpolished videos Jacob:) I can only imagine what it must be like there now. Back in June I was there for a week and it was brutal then from a tourist perspective. I stayed at the Elara and it took 45 minutes for my Uber driver to get to the hotel despite only being 1.5 kms away. Then from the hotel over to Paradise and Harmon took another 30 mins---glad that I planned in advance to leave plenty of time to get to the airport. The poor driver was stressed to the max and he, plus many of the employees that I spoke with at the hotel, were not at all impressed with the disruptions back then; it has probably increased five-fold by now.

When I saw the paving schedule last spring, I canceled my Fall Vegas trip to avoid this sh** show. We've all been stuck in traffic jams on Las Vegas Blvd because they closed a single lane, so this had to be a nightmare. It also may take months to get back to "normal". I'll probably skip 2 trips to Vegas because of F1.

Talk about NOT being prepared or equiped to handle employee pick up and drop off,the wynn did nothing plus they sold their parking garage to the sphere so employees cant even park. Now they say to drop off in some dirt lot by old frontier spot and take a bus to wynn. Why cant they be dropped off ar the encore? The amount of anger and stress us locals have endured cant be measured as a "win" for vegas.

Now we have multiple parts of 215 under construction for years and i15 it’s insane they should put all the resources into completing a project. Hell I don’t see why the i15 isn’t a 24 hour project to get it finished asap.

Just because tipping isn't in their culture doesn't mean you bring that with you - they're OUR guests in our home, where the employees are compensated in a way that counts on those tips happening. Will be interesting to hear how this plays out.

Hi, travel to vegas every october from ireland. What I saw this year was horrible. I watch F1 also. Street circuits are boring races and Vegas is ruined by this prolonged construction. If you went to this race you would not be seeing the best of F1 or the best of Vegas. The strip is ruined now for months between set up and take down. I can’t believe that the Vegas residents have not kicked up a bigger fuss. Leave Vegas as is, thats when Vegas is at its best. Many great nights there. I wont go again while F1 construction is on. 😢

Hey Jacob - my husband and I love your videos. You’re very informed and insightful on all things Vegas!!
What do you think about the “temporary” infrastructure…I.e., the films on pedestrian bridges blocking views, the stands, construction blocking the facades of buildings etc. on the Strip - how much of that do you think is temporary versus permanent? How long do you think it’ll take to come down? I’m wondering if my January trip is going to include a bunch of looking at barricades and construction in front of the iconic Strip casinos…

It all will depend on 1) Will the quality of life improve for the frontline workers (not the executives)
    2) Will the tourist experience be enhanced to encourage return trips.
    3) Will the infrastructure be improved (goes hand in hand with the first two points).
We'll just have to wait and see.

It has definitely been a nightmare for residents so far.
Most of the issues can be mitigated with proper planning. There were many mistakes made that can be corrected before the next races. And many assumptions on costs and impact that were highly inaccurate that can be adjusted. Long term I think it is here to stay, run much smoother, and significantly positive for the economy.

I have been watching F1 since they had a series about F1 on Netflix which got a lot of people interested into watching F1 . I am in Vegas and would like to go but as a senior I just don’t have the money to buy a ticket which is very expensive. The least expense ticket I have found is $652 then they go up from there $700,800,900,1000 and a lot of tickets in the $ 1900+ range. I am sure that the average worker or senior doesn’t have that kind of money either so it is a race for the rich or people with a lot of disposable income.
