Toyota was one of the first companies to embrace the hybrid car as a means of achieving excellent fuel economy. Fast forward to today and countless companies all have hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles in their lineups.
The Prius has become a ubiquitous name, like Kleenex or Que-Tip, thanks to its massive popularity as a hybrid vehicle. Unfortunately, there are now other hybrids on sale, which offer similar MPG in a prettier package.
The Prius Prime adds a larger battery, good for a 25-mile electric range, up to 54 MPG, and a nearly 600-mile range. The base Plus trim starts at $27,300 while our well-optioned Advanced trim tester rang in at over $34,000.
Still, with just 121 total horsepower, a 0-60 MPH time of over 10 seconds, and lackluster driving dynamics, does the Prius still shine in a crowded segment with plenty of solid options?

It looks great. Stop saying it doesn't. Plus, people can decide for themselves anyway. Tell them something they can't figure out for themselves.

something im trying to do daily with my 2018 Prime as well, did some highway trips so it is 150mpg now after 700 miles. Probably will increase to 200+ as well by 2000 miles.

B is not for regeneration, the breaks dose regeneration. B mode, is for mountain driving, as it says in the manual, and it uses engine break along with regeneration - so less regeneration than breaking.
The car feels nice to drive like most Totoyas, you just don't like it.

The reason you buy this car is the 54 mpg. The electric to gas conversion price per gallon is $2.50 so right now it is cheaper to run on gas all the time, but gas may go up in the future. The $4,500 tax credit makes the price cheaper that the regular Prius and this is a better car in every way. It also holds it value much better. The base model is the best. The 2019’s are coming out soon and they may be better or the 2018 may be discounted so don’t get on quite yet but soon. I really like the Chevy volt but there are a lot of them on the market and they are selling cheap for the mileage and year while there are fewer of these on the market and they are demanding higher prices. People who own these are hanging on to them.

5 years later, the gas is over $4🤦🏻‍♂️ i bought this car with low mileage and hoping to last forever while saving money on fuel.

Why testdrive a car you seem to hate before you get close to it? You are already fixed most your opinion there. You should test a car for what it is and meant for, not in the scale of "0 to Ferrari". You are almost the only test driver of this car who thinks handling of the car is poor in current TGNA chassis with new independent rear suspension. Others say the exact opposite.

We tested the car after driving it for a week. Having driven a few competitors from Honda, we preferred them heavily.

Yes, there is a way to shut off the continuous reverse beep. You can either have the dealer switch the setting or do it yourself with an aftermarket ODB-II app.

Wow, that is a decent amount of effort to shut it off. I wish there was just a setting in one of the menus.

Is worth asking at the dealer during a free service or part of the delivery. Then you can do another customization... making all the windows go down at once with the FOB.

Wow! I’ve had my Prius for eleven years and love driving it. I came from a BMW5 and love the tightness on curves and the peppiness the Prius brings to the table. After watching your vid I wonder if if it really is that crappy a car because you only have one good thing to say about it. MPG.

That reverse beep can be shut off with Carista. I do agree about the rearview camera sizing being small compared to the size of the screen. They really should have filled that out somehow.

I've driven the Prius plug-in hybrid and it handles and drives great! I test drove the other cars mentioned in your review and feel the Prius handles just as well if not better! I totally disagree with your review!

The beeping is there because you can't hear the car, and it lets you know you're in reverse. Great idea actually. I just wish the engine would charge the larger battery, so that you can go full battery over and over throughout your drive. Engine is running anyway, why not charge the larger battery. Kind of an over site.

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  5 лет назад

Nope, the Lexus LS 500 and LC 500 do the same thing. It's because drivers can't look down and see visually that they are in reverse.

I am not sure why you even reviewed this car. Seems like you didnt like it from the start. Also, what do you expect this car to be like? A sports car? It would be good if you could touch on why people would by this car for what it is not for what you want it to be. This is not a Tesla, who can afford that!!

  • @ivanlowjones

The brown bag over your head was so appropriate😄 There's just something about Prius owners that just screams.."I'm a pretentious tree hugger and I want everyone to know it".
