I had a 2000 v6 5 speed in highschool. Yeah the engine was small and slow but it was stick and it gave me a lot of joy. I had custom purple paint with a mate black strip going down the center. Black rims and at one point 4subs in the back. Sadly my depression got the best of me and I just stopped taking care of it. Then I got rear ended in it. Lucky it was just a bumper that needed to be replaced but I ended up selling it.
Nice looking upgrades. We have owned a 1999 gt since new and biggest problem is the front bucket seats. Car was not built for taller people. We upgraded our pedals to aftermarket aluminum, made shifting gears a lot easier. Enjoying this build and the unique engine swap you have planned.
I’m not a mustang guy at all, but this is the best modern mustang style between 1990 and the latest refresh. These changes really clean it up nice in the front!
Was interested to see how you cleaned it up. Turns out you and I have nearly the same tastes as I did every single one of those mods to my 2000 gt roller while i was turbo LS swapping it. Keep up the good work.
Nice cosmetic package, and the price looked very good considering it included headlights. I’ve priced those for other vehicles and got bad sticker shock. As far as esthetics, I much prefer my old ‘89 notchback, but I haven’t owned it for about 30 years…anyway, nice work!
Important rules on spark plug installs. If the plug is going into an aluminum head You must use anti-cease unless (1) the heads have cast iron or steel plug inserts (2) you're racing the car and thus remove the plug regularly to inspect them.
Definitely like the mods. The grille and lights is fantastic. Not a fan of the chrome pony but it's much better than the other one. I did a blacked out pony on my S550. Almost disappeared in the grille
That does look much better. I have a Mach 1 in a similar color (azure blue). I really like the GT hood and scoop, too bad your going to change it. I know the 5.4 doesn’t fit under there as easily so I understand. I also have a GT and I’ve owned several. I do like the front end better than the 03 cobra unless it’s an actual 03 cobra, which I have as well, and I hate when people put cobra bumper covers on non cobras. The pedals were a great choice.
Talk to Jordan at modular head shop he has alot of time with these mod motors he sales all the parts you need also great shipping times never had a problem with them
Looks much better. I am a big proponent of the same changes to clean up the look of the car. I am not a fan of the factory tail lights either. I think Raxiom makes a set for the new edges that simulate the 13-14 tail lights. I’m kinda crazy I guess. I would have swapped out that factory front crash bar for a tubular one while I was there. It will definitely help with airflow and cooling if you are going turbo. Not to mention it drops some weight from way out front. Speaking of dropping weight; it might not be a bad idea to go ahead and get the UPR chromoly tubular K member A arms and coil overs. Offset as much of that extra block weight and give you as much room as possible. Still super excited to see how this build goes. It is something I have wanted to do for a while, just haven’t had the time or the car. Hard to find a decent one in my area. Most have been beat to heck. Thanks again and keep up the cool stuff.
Been watching your videos for min keep up the good work! I like how your vehicles use uncommon engine builds pulled from junkyards. Another odd ball option for the mustang could be a Boss 6.2l from a F250. Find them for cheep and could bore/stroke up to 427ci with boost could be a powerful big block.
That block can handle .020" over and still be OK. Don't worry until you get to .060". That bare frame sitting there is making me want to frame-off my OBS. Damn you, LT!!! (shakes fist). LOL
I used to have the misfire issue on my 2v, the problem with those engines is they dislike anything other than motorcraft spark plugs, before I realized that i changed every coil, even checked the intake manifold and the MAF sensor because I had JUST put in some autolites because they didn't have motorcraft at the parts store. And after all those things didn't work, I put on some motorcraft spark plugs because a friend recommended that, and voilá, misfire never came back!
Very cool cars, very underatted and very good looking as well. Yeah the 4.6 2V is underrated power wise and they seem have a long life. In the process of getting another one.
Having ordered a new shadow grey Mach 1 in July of 2002 and keeping it as a Daily for 12 straight years , I'm saying the chin strap, grill delete and the addition of the Cobra brakes are a must for new edge cars. I ordered the automatic in mine. It was a brute with that. Oh let's not forget a shaker hood 🍺
I just recently watched a video on these ponies, guy mentioned random misfires are a common issue. He also mentioned ford oe plugs and boots work the longest and to always replace every plug even if only one is bad. Car is looking good!
I've never been a big fan of the fake hood scoop.. Go with a Cervini 1995 Cobra hood and a different color. I have a 2002 GT in Mineral Gray, and I absolutely hate the color. I keep telling myself that I'm going to have it painted in another shade of gray and get rid of the blah goldish grayish flake.
For the hard rubber parts like the pedal covers I use a tiny bit of dish soap. It is easy to wash off and doesn’t hurt anything. Eventually it’ll dry up.
If you're going to replace the hood anyway, I had an 02 gt that I took the scoop off, drilled out the holes in the grill, then cut a hole in the hood and replaced the scoop and grill. This should allow cooler air to come into the engine bay right on top of the intake. Don't know how much, if any, it helped, but I like to think it did.
Those ford racing pedal covers are a pain to get on! I found that a paint can opener works great to hook the edge of the cover and pry it up and over the face of the pedal
If the misfire comes back check the springs and boots on the COP.s. I had a 1997 GT 4.6 2V with a mysterious misfire. After changing plugs I finally noticed the smallest arc at night when the engine was running. The first generations of COPs were known for these issues plus given the age might be some deterioration.
The saleen bumper for these looks great imo. You lose the fog lights, but I rarely used mine. Those pedals seemed a little bit of a pain to install. Glad my 04 came factory with them.
I owned a 98 mark VIII LSC and actually had a few issues with misfire ..the coil boots and spring were the problem a few times..and using cheap coils didn't pay off ever..motor craft coils only...unless you get expensive coil set from Ford performance..
Undersizing the crank can make it difficult to find performance bearings. Also, the crush washer on the plug should be more than attequit to create a good ground.
When I bought my 2001 in the fall of 2001, the first thing that I changed were the grill and added an front spoiler. Unfortunately, the Mach 1 was still a couple of years away, so I installed a '65 Shelby-esque grill with the tribar pony offset to the right and a lip spoiler that Saleen sold for a short time. Huge improvement at the time. You car should have come with the black headlights stock. The wrong ones must have installed when the front end was repaired. Those 99-2000 headlights are ugly. The black headlights and the pedestal rear spoiler were a couple of reasons I held out to 2001 to buy mine.
The ole LMR facelift beautiful!! I would also do aftermarket lower control arms…Very important on these mustangs, I have videos explaining…Also the sn95’s need lowering springs preferably H+R super sport or Eibach sportlines, I also have videos on that…
You can replace the coil pack boots and springs fairly cheaply. Eventually the boots dry rot, crack and ground out causing an arc/miss which will eventually burn out the coil packs.
I’ve had 02 GT and now 03 GT. Most random misfires and misfires at idle I have found caused by bad intake manifold gaskets allowing unmetered air to be drawn into the cylinders. Pulling the manifold, toss it in trash if it’s a Dorman and putting a Ford PI intake back on fixes most of these issues.
I think the Pontiac Firebird Trans Ams from that year and the Toyota Supras had the best antennas cuz they were giant but at least when you turned off the car they went down and it looked like the car doesn't have an antenna

Definitely a huge upgrade on front end. I always preferred a satin black mach1 scope. The stock gt facia looks borin
Well needed mods
