What always struck me as incredibly impactful about Berserk is not just how things came to be so royally screwed, but just what Guts finds himself up against. Calling the odds he was against monumental is nothing short of a disservice to what hes experiencing, yet he somehow perseveres. Every waking second you spend reading the story makes you fear for his life at an intensity that shatters whatever concept you thought was the maximum level of worry. It's such a damn good revenge story about struggle. i can't think of one that comes even remotely close.
