Lydon is a real genius. With Pistols HE invented an image and a very influential music style. With PIL he composed one of most original and influential music. And he made very Big Money but is it wrong? "Big Money" i think is like addiction like drugs and alcool :-) God Bless John Lydon
as good as they were, rock n roll had been around for at least a few decades before the Pistols and the musicians in PiL made the music that he wailed over the top of
@@rikmono John gave the band direction, purpose, attitude, unique vocals and killer lyrics. He came later, but he was pivotal to their success. But yes, he didn't create a musical style. He's not a musician and never was. He didn't invent the image either, that existed already in NY, Richard Hell and the Voidoids.
Apart from the Drummer missing some Tom Fills near the start of the song, that was awesome and brilliant. Lydon looks like he's enjoying himself. A very nonchalant delivery of some of the most powerful lyrics ever created. During interviews, Lydon throws up 'smoke screens' to deceive us. He's 'toying' with all of us. Why would PIL do a cover of a Pistols' song if he didn't like what The Pistols had produced. Apart from the Filthy Lucre, why would Lydon reform with Steve, Paul and Glen if he didn't 'like' them. On a You Tube video I saw of The Pistols LIVE, Lydon introduced the Band as the greatest Rock Band in the World. Though, with Lydon you can never be sure whether he's being sincere or 'playing' with us. I saw PIL - LIVE in Sydney in '92 at The Revesby Roundhouse, I was down the front and some of Lydon's sweat flew onto my face. Brilliant concert. I saw Iggy Pop at the same venue around the same period. Both insane gigs.
*PiL stopped existing once Levene was ousted. PiL by name isn't the same musicians that made them great. I don't care what the Lydon disciples think, either. He wasn't the group, corporation, enterprise (or whatever pretentious label he thought to apply to it)*
She used to climb in a tree house she had mental health issues she wrote lots if letter to rotten he ignored them but when she said she had an abortion he snapped pure angst in this song not just aboyt shock value also she turned up to a pistol gig with something not very nice round her neck.my friend drove by her house she still lives in Birmingham. Great track real ironic it was written about a fan. I'm a huge fan and collector met John and Glen seen them 6 times live on reunion tours I'm a fan with a good knowledge of the group let's do an open uni degree I will pass 👍
Sorry a few spelling errors type to fast I've got a good knowledge of them and soon I'm doing an interview about them which will be youtube as my friend runs a production company they are doing different genres of music.viv Westwood also is being interviewed and here the funny part my mate never heard of her oh I did giggle 😃 😆
You can tell Martin Atkins (drums for you noobz ) is having some sort of orgasm while playing this material at that point in time where there had been no Sex Pistols reunions or anything vaguely similar to this degree of Legend !
What is the lineup of the band? Its not the first lineup of the first tow albums nor the Happy lineup. And certainly not the ALBUM lineup as they did not tour.
No they're not, they give people the ability to have more control over their life, if circumstances don't go too well. People should have the freedom of choice. Johnny himself said he wasn't making it in anger over her having a abortion, he made it because she was batshit crazy. (she supposedly brought the foetus to a gig) He has actually publicly stated that people should have the freedom of choice over the issue.
That's pretty much 100% what the song is about -- and with no holding back, that's for sure! She was a girl from Birmingham She just had an abortion She was a case of insanity Her name was Pauline, she lived in a tree She was a no-one who killed her baby She sent her letters from the country She was an animal She was a bloody disgrace Dragged on a table in a factory Illegitimate place to be In a packet in a lavatory Die, little baby screaming Body, screaming fucking bloody mess Not an animal It's an abortion Throbbing squirm Gurgling bloody mess I'm not a discharge I'm not a loss in protein I'm not a throbbing squirm, ugh Fuck this and fuck that Fuck it all and fuck the fucking brat She don't want a baby that looks like that I don't want a baby that looks like that Body, I'm not an animal Body, an abortion
No, he didnt ivent an image. of coyrse he wasnt pushed into it, but there was something more than just John's imagination. Vivienne Westwood, for example.
ya only its not "she lived in a tree" its a whole name of a person.. I can't remember how the last name is spelled exactly but its like galligenistri or something like that.. It was a real person one of the first to actual get a legal abortion (they used to be illegal) and that pissed Johnny off so he made this song about her.. But its the woman's complete name
From wiki ... there is a link to source for this but it's broken.. "The song was, like all other Sex Pistols songs, credited to the entire band, though Vicious was in the hospital with hepatitis when the band wrote it. It is mostly about a fan named Pauline, who was (as the song states) from Birmingham. She had been in a mental institution, where she apparently lived in a tree house,[2] in the garden of the institution. This was where the line 'Her name was Pauline, she lived in a tree' comes from." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodies_(Sex_Pistols_song)
I don't think Rotten is Jesus, it was only an answer to your comment of disagreement. My first comment was only a consideration about his career and his influential style directed to the people that blame him about his popularity. Nothing more
And, yet, they always seemed to do a cover of "Anarchy In The U.K."... And Lydon was supposed to have left the Pistols for good after their final show at the Winterland Ballroom, and, yet, in '96, BAM! Sex Pistols reunion! However, it does sound like shit.
is it just me or does every band at every point in Johns career have to cater to Johns inability to remember the lyrics and his complete lack of timing?!?!..and I say that as huge John fan!!
hehe, yeah I suppose the Sex Pistols had a lot of shitty gigs technically, but that didn't really matter because they were fueled by adrenaline and the energy level was so high! but this was before, say, mid 77. they really sucked when sid joined, and the more heroin he injected they more they sucked.
Well it seems that pistols have that charisma cause of jonnhy too not only sid,but pil some times in some ways looks so difrent i mean there good songs and that cunt songs i just dont get it i understand jonnhy were always the one with a social deep aproaching in the songs and lirics ,and pil is similiar in some songs and others are just like the name a public image who wonts gain credits from the very popular shortly pistols carrer mark by the death of for someones a icon sid vicious and some of the greatest punk songs of rock history .
There isn't anything great with this clip AT ALL! John sings fucking horrible and the band sounds really really tired, the very opposite to how the Pistols used to sound. I really love PiL though, put I suppose this was their poorest incarnation.
utterly compelling combination of offensiveness, truthfulness, sneering and stage charisma.

Malcom and Viv made the style, Glen & Steve made the sound, John came later!

Actually a great version of this Im surprised
"Flipper. My all time life inspiration. He knows how to talk to humans"
i worked for a while with Jah Wobble the bass player...nice bloke.
"I need all the clothes I can get, I'm broke at the moment.
Yeah, give it to me, I'll wear it.
Some other time, haha!" Classic!
This version is good 👍

PiL's new line up for 2016 would do an amazing version of Bodies. They should do it!
it will never gonna happen
Every show

I love the little laugh he does at 2:51
*Good for you*
yeah, some guy made it onstage. John let him "Sing" a bit then shoved him back into the crowd and laughed. Super funny
Security shoved him off,not John.
Notice how much he looked like Sid?
*He's a little 'National Socialist'*
"Her name was Pauline,
She lived in a tree." LOL
I've been laughing at that line for 30+ years.
Lol
The one that's always split my sides was "she don't want a baby that looks like that... I don't want a baby that looks like that"
True story....
I have never see this! It is GREAT!! Thank you for sharing. John was laughing and he was so cute!
sex pistols version sounds like anger pil's version sounds like comical sadness. both johnny's perfomances anyway!
ah lovely. Saw PiL live last week here in sweden, and wow. They are tight, maan!
*I walked out of their dull and irritating set in 1989*
"but Flipper was my all time life inspiration"
Flipper the dolphin
Because he's John Fucking Lydon, he can do whatever the fuck he wants, and get away with it. It's what he does.
So do i
johnny is so handsome
I’ve alvays liked Bodies, a great song ! :) And with The Public Image Ltd ! Great stuff ! :)
Great Vertion 🎶
Lydon mentioning Flipper. For those who don't know what that was all about, look up "Flipper image Ltd"
*Public Flipper Ltd
this is a Sex Pistols song sung like a PIL kinda way... very odd little twist.
Last time I saw pil.was on the That what not is not tour '92 at Aston villa center they were great .
I think they're shit now
Johnny at his best, and enjoying it. Great, give him an OBE.
You can tell Martin Atkins (drums for you noobz ) is having some sort of orgasm while playing this material at that point in time where there had been no Sex Pistols reunions or anything vaguely similar to this degree of Legend !
America had Elvis
UK had Johnny
My favorite tune of his.... fuck this, fuck that, I don't wanna a baby that looks like that!
Was it a person from the audience John (Lydon) pushed off the stage? And then pointing at him while laughing! Lol
good version

She was a case of insanity
Her name was Pauline, she lived in a tree
She was a no-one who killed her baby
She sent her letters from the country

@mamatis PIL has had many different members. John is the only constant member
John IS PiL
i wish he'd of sang with more anger lol, but oh well its his song
PiL, the Parody.
My mother blamed John rotten and punk for making me who I am IM STILL A PUNK 57
No, he didnt ivent an image. of coyrse he wasnt pushed into it, but there was something more than just John's imagination. Vivienne Westwood, for example.
yeah but he sings the songs differently from when he was with the sex pistols which i hate.
So do I but I don`t think his voice will do that sound anymore.
What is this year?
I'm wondering if I saw them that year
Could be 1986
Why yall styled like how we grew up ?

Yes, John Lydon is Jesus my dear!

I think I might have seen them that year

??????????? WHAT THE FUCK VOICE IS THIS!??!?!?!? omfg i have said it before and i will say it again... Rotten sold his soul for this band
Not Public Image at all! They do DO
A good version of Bodies live tho
I'm not an animal..... I'm an abortion!
y dus e sing so high e sound like hes about 12. I saw the sex pistols in 2007 ye could tell he was gettin old coz it was so deep
And, yet, they always seemed to do a cover of "Anarchy In The U.K."...
And Lydon was supposed to have left the Pistols for good after their final show at the Winterland Ballroom, and, yet, in '96, BAM! Sex Pistols reunion!

but this was before, say, mid 77. they really sucked when sid joined, and the more heroin he injected they more they sucked.
Grandpa's village enjoy
Ok Lets Get You To Bed !
boo.
In my opinion he's out of tune
He always does this,by singing too high and strained in order to make himself stand out..Trying too hard to be distinctive
Well it seems that pistols have that charisma cause of jonnhy too not only sid,but pil some times in some ways looks so difrent i mean there good songs and that cunt songs i just dont get it i understand jonnhy were always the one with a social deep aproaching in the songs and lirics ,and pil is similiar in some songs and others are just like the name a public image who wonts gain credits from the very popular shortly pistols carrer mark by the death of for someones a icon sid vicious and some of the greatest punk songs of rock history .
that's like saying Top Man is the genius behind YOUR image.
westwood's a glorified shop assistant for christs sake nothing more nothing less.
NO WAY the sex pistols sounded amazing... these guys... well they should jsut stick to there own songs
There isn't anything great with this clip AT ALL!
John sings fucking horrible and the band sounds really really tired, the very opposite to how the Pistols used to sound.
I really love PiL though, put I suppose this was their poorest incarnation.
Awful. It's like some silly twit doing an impersonation of Rotten when he was a Sex Pistol. He sadly turned into a caricature of himself.
That voice tho
Why are all you Noobs Cosplaying how we grew up ?
