Nice one Matt. I sometimes do similar shoots with the D850 and the 70-200 or the 300PF and it really works. I have used the 3D tracking some times, but mostly just single point and continuos AF. The power of the 400 is of course outstanding and it promises for my wildlife work. I think that lens will be my only long lens in the future, apart from the 500PF when hand held. Can dream of this unbelievable combo in the future but hard to justify at my level of photography. Nikon are really knocking it out of the park at the moment and it will be interesting to see how the competition responds.
I recently had a play with the D5 and D4 cameras and whilst these are Ferrari’s in terms of their shutter speed and built like a tank, I was surprised they lack a number of features that the D850 has such as focus peaking, Bluetooth, focus stacking, smart phone connectivity etc.

Matt, looking forward to the full review. I hope you include a good look at the physics of the magnetic drive by putting it into a situation where metal in close proximity to the lens may or may not affect it. As a sports photographer I have shot from arena catwalks with nothing but metal scaffolding all around me, through metal boxes/fences (photographers nest) where these scenarios do present in the real world. PLEASE include testing that will show those of us who rely on this gear for our livelihood what we need to know to make an informed decision.
For those of us who already own 400 2.8 lenses we agree that the bokeh and reach of the lens is astounding. But we really need more data on the NEW aspect of the lens, which is the magnetic drive. Thank you 🙏

It is interesting Koen, what a lot of compression and high dynamic lighting will do. I have actually always enjoyed creating images in camera, that perhaps look a little surreal ... so I think this is subconsciously a look I like :)

Just shows how good it is with a professional model. Not normally a big fan of tarts. Bute’s a very classy, sexy lady, great lens though
