    Totally agree on bass mounted toms. I have that at my drum school and it's so much easier and comfortable to play. I have a virgin bass at home and after 20 years, I still can't get the Tom's and cymbal stands aligned the way I want them. Industry seems to be going back.

      Yeah it seems to be more of a trend now but a welcome one. Much easier to get the drums positioned in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

      Oh yes exactly my thoughts too, exactly how drums are supposed to be : not virgin.
      I don't like virgin bass drum, so much hardware to buy and I don't like the sounds too.

      I remember when I was studying drums at conservatory in France and we played on a 18-10-12-14 Yamaha absolute maple André Ceccarelli kit, goodness this kit sounded so good, so musical.

    My man. So agree-no holes in the BD resonant head, and for chrissake no cymbal stand or snare basket mounting for the high toms.

    Hello, Mr. Haas. I am a high school jazz band student in Oklahoma. I’ve been watching your channel one suite performance a lot. You and your colleagues skills never cease to impress me and my friends. Could you please break down the parts of channel one suite and your solo?

    • @austinhass2638
      @austinhass2638  8 месяцев назад +1

      I appreciate the kind words! Unfortunately it would be challenging at this time for me to break down that solo. It was heavily Buddy Rich inspired so I’d recommend watching as many solos as you can of him. I’d be happy to meet on zoom for lesson sometime if you’re interested! Let me know!

    Hello Austin. I got turned on to the Absolute Hybrid line after playing a kit that Guitar Center had on display for that purpose. I immediately noticed the difference in punch and i also recognized what they were doing from a marketing perspective by having a high end kit.
    Do you recommend this kit for heavy metal. It almost seems to me that the extra tonal quality might interfere with tight breakdowns or transitions in certain situations.
    Thanks for the review though. Exactly what I was looking for.

      I'm not too deep into the metal genre but from what I have heard these drums might not fit the sound a metal drummer would be looking for. They're very open, resonant and even when tuned low still have a bright characteristic to the sound. I'm sure different head combinations could change that but I think something like the Yamaha Live Custom Hybrid Oak might be better suited for metal. At the end of the day you can make anything work for what you need but I think there are some better offerings for metal from companies like Mapex or Tama. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Gorgeous sounding kit! How much does it cost? and how does it compare to other similar budget drum kits?

    • @austinhass2638
      @austinhass2638  7 месяцев назад

      Before tax all 7 drums come out to around $6599.99. Since I work at a music store I was able to get it all for less but it was definitely an investment. To me they're my favorite sounding drums period, however other manufactures like Mapex and Pearl are making crazy good drums in the same price point. What sets these apart for me is the ease of use. The tom mount is great and the drums are so well made tuning is a piece of cake. Everyone makes good stuff though at this price point! Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    Super off-topic here, but what would you recommend as essential listening for someone who's more "jazz adjacent"? My entry point to jazz was Dave Weckl, back in the early 90's, and I never really made the transition in to, like, bebop or even straight-ahead in general. I've gotten in to a fair amount of big-band stuff, but really never "bonded" with the whole Blakey, Elvin and Max Roach thing.
    How do I migrate from fusion to "real" jazz?

      That's a great question! For me Philly Joe Jones was always a big hero. His phrasing, solo vocabulary, and swing were mesmerizing. A great album where this is all displayed is Art Pepper Meets the Rhythm Section. Another drummer that got me excited was Jeff Hamilton. He has his own trio and big band but I really like his work with the Ray Brown Trio. 3 Dimensional is a great record to check out. Other than that if you can go see live jazz in your area thats an even better way to immerse yourself and catch the bug. Hope this helps!

      Hi very interesting, indeed Jeff Hamilton is a giant.
      I really really also like Andre Ceccarelli (Yamaha drummer, was the drummer for Sylvain Luc trio unfortunately Sylvain is from another world today.)
      Andre Ceccarelli (78 yo) he is still playing like if he was young. Incredible drumming, musicality and specific touch on the drum.
      You can really enjoy his drumming on RUclips with this amazing live, Andre Ceccarelli really goes crazy on this 1 hour live very polyvalent and so magical: (oh yeah, he play exactly on the Yamaha hybrid absolute maple too on this one same color and same sizes.)

      Also I strongly recommend listening to Sylvain Luc's album "organic" (available everywhere on Deezer, Apple Music, Spotify and RUclips). This album is astonishing, with of course André Ceccarelli (78 years old) on drums. At 78 years old, playing like that is truly exceptional. Another extraterrestrial haha...

      Hey Ryan, I really recommend Sylvain Luc (French monster guitarist) and Andre Ceccarelli (78 yo drummer) . Unbelievable drummer!!!
      There is a fantastic album: Sylvain luc "organic".

      Ps: Andre Ceccarelli is unbelievable at 78 yo playing like this. Sylvain luc was unbelievable too.
      But there is a good one from the la note bleue club :

      (Andre Ceccarelli goes crazy on this live, really crazy, probably not from the beginning but the more we listen to the live and the more he goes crazy in the drumming haha)
