I love how 311 blended different styles together to make something really innovative, especially for the 90’s. During this time, I don’t think anyone sounded like 311.
Yeah. And the media called them both “ska” bands at one time. 311 doesn’t have enough punk in their style (not to mention, no horn section) to be ska. Sublime had a few ska songs but had that punk influence. 311 is a much more diverse band. They’ve got metal, hip hop, raggae, and electronic influences. Sublime is mostly just either punk or raggae with rap record/club beat samples. But I like them both dearly from childhood.

Not only does listening to this take me back to such a simpler better time of life, but all these years later still great fucking music!!!
I was 17 years old living with five drug dealers when this album came out and we did all the drugs available in the world together everyday all day because I worked a part-time waiter job Monday through Thursday that paid all my part of the rent and to groceries and stuff like that. But the rest of the time it was nicotine marijuana alcohol ecstasy LSD mushrooms cocaine meth and one of us kids did heroin from time to time in New York City. Know that we have always been down down
I clearly remember my brother burning a mix for me to listen to as I drove two hours. “Freak Out” was first and I never looked back. If I ever had the $, they’d please play at my funeral, or at least my birthday party.
I remember being 14 when this song started getting played on MTV and thinking, despite the awesomeness of the actual music, the video was pretty weird. The funhouse mirror effects they used, the levitating bodies...the freaky faces the drummer was making...and now, 22 years later, this band has been the soundtrack for many of the best summers I have ever had.
I spent a decade looking for this song. I heard it playing on the radio once & thought it sounded really familiar. I asked everyone else in the car what it was but no one would tell me I heard small bits of it a few other times after that, but never got enough to go off of I tried everything. I looked up every band I could think of that plays similar music & listened through all of their songs I haven't already heard I used that app (I think it's called soundhound or something) *so many times* & sung the tune into it but I didn't know the words. It gave me nothing then by pure chance, one day it came on while I was listening to Lithium (it's a satellite radio station) I was so excited, I can't even describe the feeling when I realized that I finally had the name of the song I love this song so much. It means so much to me in large part because of how long it took me to find it
I think many of us has had a "BRAIN FART" moment and it'll kill you. You try to forget about it but it keeps gnawing atchya.Betchya won't 4get it again ; )'
Remembering the first time I heard this song on the radio... and playing in a band now, I couldn't imagine what it would have been like to be in that room with those guys when they nailed this song the first time. They had to have looked at each other and said "we're never getting a day job again in our lives"
Why do people hate on them? I mean why are they even making comments and on a chat for a band that they say "Sucks"? That's really having too much time on your hands.... Or am I THE WEIRDO?
My 9 year old daughter loves amber by 311 its actually the only song she knows. I put this song on the other day and I was like baby you know who it is? She was shocked when I told her who it was because she's used to that chill vibe from amber and now she likes this song too😁😁😁Gotta teach em young
I have no idea why, but they remind me of Stone Temple Pilots. Mainly it was the chorus, I just couldn’t and can’t shake it. I never knew the name of the song and it always plays on the radio so I quickly downloaded an app to identify it. FINALLY!!! Love it.
Happy 311 day! My drum student and I will be working on this song today in celebration, before I get completely baked and listen to some albums later :)
This song has been a favorite since it came out...which is for more than half of my life. As much as I love all of it, I think that Mahoney embodies the spirit of this song so well from 1:24 to 1:27. 3 seconds of Down says it all.
Whaaat? When I searched this song up, after digging it out from my most obscure memories, I never expected it to have millions and millions of views! Well played 311!
bought this album on a whim at Best buy when it was released. They used to have 9.99 CD's every week you could sample with earphones. First 30 seconds of Down and I was hooked. Spent a lot of time in the JVC 22x4 watt CD player I installed into my Geo Prism,
YESSSSS! I could not remember the name of this song; it's been living rent free in my head for well over 20 years... Today, I've finally learned the name of this track!
@@teddybaker4759 Yo! I started with years of "90s Alternative" on Pandora and Spotify. Nothing. I remember sneaking into my sister room as a kid to play this album when she went out with her friends. Ah, memories!
This song was so heavy in concert that guitar is so crunchy n bass is incredible
This song was my introduction to 311 and I bought every one of their albums since then. One of my top favorite bands
I spent a decade looking for this song. I heard it playing on the radio once & thought it sounded really familiar. I asked everyone else in the car what it was but no one would tell me
I heard small bits of it a few other times after that, but never got enough to go off of
I tried everything. I looked up every band I could think of that plays similar music & listened through all of their songs I haven't already heard
I used that app (I think it's called soundhound or something) *so many times* & sung the tune into it but I didn't know the words. It gave me nothing
then by pure chance, one day it came on while I was listening to Lithium (it's a satellite radio station) I was so excited, I can't even describe the feeling when I realized that I finally had the name of the song
I love this song so much. It means so much to me in large part because of how long it took me to find it
Congratulations on your long journey. Happy to hear it was worth it in the end.
One of the most underrated bands ever.
This song is addictive, heard it once on the radio as a kid. Now Its the first thing to come to mind, always gotta relisten to it.
I have no idea why, but they remind me of Stone Temple Pilots. Mainly it was the chorus, I just couldn’t and can’t shake it.
I never knew the name of the song and it always plays on the radio so I quickly downloaded an app to identify it. FINALLY!!!
Love it.
Still one of the coolest fucking things my 27 year old self has witnessed.

sorry to hear that
@@jlover911 me too pal, me too
look up Tool. or Deftones.. (adrenaline album) 311 got me into them both.
@@tysnow1646 both were junk.
Happy 311 day!
My drum student and I will be working on this song today in celebration, before I get completely baked and listen to some albums later :)
This music video was clearly produced by someone under the influence of Ranch, we need an investigation.

I'm so happy that an Eric Andre Reference is the top comment here....

WASUP STEPH NUGS
This song has been a favorite since it came out...which is for more than half of my life. As much as I love all of it, I think that Mahoney embodies the spirit of this song so well from 1:24 to 1:27. 3 seconds of Down says it all.
Whaaat? When I searched this song up, after digging it out from my most obscure memories, I never expected it to have millions and millions of views! Well played 311!
Making more money now then they ever imagined off these clicks, I’m sure. Amazing
The definition of “passive income” at its fullest
so proud of my dad for re-introducing me to this song later in my life and proud of myself that i know every single word lol
Damn....I was 17... I'm 46 now.... here in 2024 💯🤘
🤟 44 this year… wow
Got 15 on you sonny
Same here
I'll be 55 in a few weeks...😂😢
Yeah brother. I was 14 and got my license at 15. This was the soundtrack on those first cruises
Just seen 311 in concert last night and they absolutely killed it!
I love all kinds of music from every era, but 90s rock has a special place in my heart 🤘
what about music from 2170 BC?
Here here!

@@lordhumongous4272 I thought all you wanted was Fuel. 😃

Hey bro you goin down to the quad later?
Born in 86. This was my jam when I was a kid 💗🙌🏼🤷🏼♀️LOL
Jessa Jarrell I think all us 80s babies loved this band and this song (and Come Original which is 🔥 🔥 🔥 as well)
Same
85 here 80s babies rule the world
Saaame, 86 love lol
88 but know that i have always been down down 😅
bought this album on a whim at Best buy when it was released.
Today, I've finally learned the name of this track!
relatable as fuck bro
for me it was only a decade. I finally found it about 5 years ago after trying everything I could think of
how did you find it?
@@teddybaker4759 Yo!
I started with years of "90s Alternative" on Pandora and Spotify.
Nothing.
I then went to Wikipedia and tried to manually type in all the top 100 songs of 91, 92, 93, etc.
Too much work, and still nothing.
Then, one day, 311 is playing in the background, I think, "oh crap, these vocals, I think that's the artist I'm looking for."
I immediately search songs by 311, and BAM! Here we are!
The madness has finally come to an end lol
@@swongstrong
awesome! Glad you found it
it's a dope song
I only heard this song once way back in the summer of 96 and never forgot it.
exactly
this was like the bohemian strait outta high schools vibe
where heartthrobs were preexisting
the girls were always sayin shit like
i luv these guys
and im sure if they were to ever meet
then it woulda been somethin like
yeah can u go get some of the bud n soda this time
3/11, never forget
801 pel lmfao hahhhaa
Doongie4ever I be sure
,
Doongie4ever yup
This aged pretty well. While I thought the vocals were a bit like listening to a kid rap back in the day, the guitar makes up for it.
🙌 the epitome of my 90's experience. These dudes kicked ass.
Keep my feet on the ground
Keep my head in the clouds
Electrified by the sound
Comes from the down
And
We've changed a lot and then some some
Know that we have always been down down
And if i ever didn't thank you you
Then just let me do it now ...

I just seen these guys this past weekend in Michigan. I thoroughly enjoyed it. They still sound great. They are all in good shape and can still entertain!
Awesome... That's a LONG time!
Ahhh.....peak 90's nostalgia, arcades, malls, JNCO's, guitar amps with their EQ's devoid of mids and all the gain... it was a great time to be young.

Such a good nostalgic song. Man, I was a kid when this came out.
Noglistic
20 years from the blue album and sounds better than many albums today : )
Driving with my kids-this song comes on at 9:30 am. I lost my mind singing every word to them. Doing my part to make sure good music is included in their upbringing.

LYRICS:
Chill, light on my sight as my ego becomes
A funky child with some words on my tongue
Be like intake of breath and my mouth gets loose
While i scatter my spit i dream of juice
Have you ever made out in dark hallways
Displayed a kiss that made your day or say
Play a track from your record collection
It's your mix, congratulations
We've changed a lot and then some some
Know that we have always been down down
And if i ever didn't thank you you
Then just let me do it now
I bet you light up when we start the show follow me now
Very closely because i told you so you know
We glow because we throw sun rays
We be freaky and we want to stay
We've changed a lot and then some some
Know that we have always been down down
And if i ever didn't thank you you
Then just let me do it now ...
Lightning strikes yo we be in that violent force of light
Guaranteed to turn it out as bad as dolemite
'cause we're dope kidchange like a chameleon
And the channel whenever that wack show real world is on
You know we dazzle like ghetto box boomin' battles
Rattle inside your head feel redeemed like cola bottles
Fall in love with you teachers on the wax
We are self made check the technique 311 in LA
We've changed a lot and then some some
Know that we have always been down down
And if i ever didn't thank you you
Then just let me do it now
Keep my feet on the ground
Keep my head in the clouds
Electrified by the sound
Comes from the down
And
We've changed a lot and then some some
Know that we have always been down down
And if i ever didn't thank you you
Then just let me do it now ...

20 YEARS LATER... still rocking with you guys!
This song is 25 years old and still better than half of what is out today.

TRULY.
Its so damn good...
@milo andfriends I never said I hated on new music. A lot of it is good, a lot of it is shit. Your race has nothing to do with music or anything. Why do people have to bring race into literally everything these days. Ffs.
The biggest reason people say this shit is because of nostalgia. Odds are life was better for you when you heard this.
Fue una bendición haber sido joven en los 90s, 90s forever!!
One of the best bands ever, Better than whatever 2023 pop is.
In January 2020, mom passed, (great start to a great decade, amirite?)
But this was her favorite band
And I’ve really come to appreciate too
Listening to it brings fond memories
When that bass that drops in the chorus was the deepest shit ever, on my old man's $600 Advent Prodigy Tower speakers! Now I got a pair that I bought a pair off five miles for $50 lol. Still makes ya feel warm and toasty.
