    One thing you missed. It was this video that saved his father's life. A distant relative heard about the situation because the video got a lot of coverage in England, and he got himself tested. The relative was a match, so Charles got a kidney transplant because of this video - within less than 4 weeks of its release.

    James and his father were both former officers in the British military, and I heard that James donated all the proceeds of this amazing video to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do so much fantastic work with and for ex-servicemen and ex-servicewomen, and God bless him for that. 🙋‍♂🙋‍♂

    James has a newer song out, called The Girl That Never Was. I won't give it away, but it is even sadder than this - in my opinion.
    Charles Blount had been a kidney donor before. Then he developed kidney disease in his remaining kidney, and it went to Stage 4 - terminal. No one they knew was a match to be a donor. This was done on TV both as a farewell and a plea for donors (not only for Charles, but certainly with him in mind. A distant cousin in Australia, also Charles Blount, saw this,was tested, and gave a kidney to James's father. His father is doing well,except of course having to follow all the protocols of an organ transplant recipient.
    James insisted on keeping all the imperfections of his voice for this - the quavering, the breaking, a bit of fading - as he wanted it to have the natural feel of someone singing a farewell to a loved one.

    • @AceofBadeReacts
      @AceofBadeReacts  3 месяца назад +4

      So this was performed live on tv? Wow that's impressive. I think the imperfections made the video all the more impactful so a really good call on that.

  • @GaryG1974
    @GaryG1974 3 месяца назад +6

    One correction which must be made...At 03:38 you imply James was sat by himself by saying "it's just him". The truth is, the whole video was made in one single take, with his father sat beside him the whole time! The only thing worthy of mention is that the camera was zoomed in then towards the end, the camera in the same shot zoomed out to include his father in the shot. At no point during the whole filming was James sat on his own.

    His dad was diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease, and he only had one kidney having donated one, no suitable donner had been found. His dad had been an Army Colonel, and as a young officer James went off to war in Bosnia - it was his dad who said "we are just too grown men saying goodbye" as his parting words. Deliberate raw, emotional single take. Lots of tears - except from his father, who was hearing this for the first time, just said "why is everybody crying? I'm dead yet." It did the job - because this song found a suitable donner. Powerful.

    When my pops passed, we were all with him for about a week. He had dementia but we gathered as a family and spent his last days in hospice with him. Even though he was out of it with the meds there were times I think he realized his judgment were there. Doing what we did growing up singing and clowning together. He passed the day after I kissed his forehead and said it's ok, pops, we got mom." Even him having dementia the only question he would ask is if we were ok. It all that mattered to him. When I heard this song it made me think this is what I would have wanted to tell him before his dementia set in. Am glad James got to tell his dad.

    I could never be a singer. First because I can't sing, but second because for a song to have any real impact it has to have meaning and come from your soul. I can't even listen to this song without bawling so there is no way that I could sing it for my Dad. It would be a horrible song filled with a constantly cracking voice, sobbing, some sniffles, etc.
