  • HOTO makes outstanding tools. Truly, a fusion of beauty and function! And just as I was making a video about the amazing HOTO drill, a Cordless Screwdriver Lite shows up so here is the unboxing. This HOTO stuff is really good. Don't miss out on these great HOTO tools with all the tool noise flying around out there. It's hard to get noticed these days, so I feel obligated to shout "HOTO tool are amazing!"

I`ve had the round one with Type-C for over a year. Well happy with it! It is strong enough to be used while assembling/disassembling wooden cupboards. One of the best and most useful gadgets I own.

The heavier one you can turn off so it doesn't turn on accidentally in your bag.
I have that one and it's prefect for small machine screws, i.e installing components in comms cabs etc.

I got a much thinner "Precision" electric screwdriver and found it's SLIGHTLY too weak for my use (fixing laptops). I want something in BETWEEN the HOTO 3.6 (the metal one w/the torque settings) and the very thin "Precision ones. I also want a much faster, or at least moderately faster RPM than what I've seen so far. I want it to make my work FASTER, not just electric.

Really appreciate your video, so I gave it a like. And I am a subscriber. But I'm on the fence about the tool. Its a cool gizmo, but the issue I have with modern electronics is the planned obsolescence built into the design. Primarily the battery. If the battery stops holding a charge, are replacements readily available? Can I use off-the-shelf rechargeable batteries, like, say, 18650s? Since right-to-repair isn't federal legislation, these are the questions that come to mind before I spend even any amount of money, because what I spend my money on is a vote for the kind of design and business models these companies want to continue. If a tool isn't user serviceable, it might as well be disposable, and I'm not ready to accept tools as disposable. I believe that tools should be lifetime investments, and therefore assets, not a line-item expenditure.

Right to repair wouldn't affect something like this. Built in batteries and planned obsolescence will stay the same. It's about providing a pathway to fix the product. If it uses a proprietary battery, you'll possibly be able to get it without having to send the tool to the manufacturer. If the control circuitry uses a proprietary chip, you'll have a better chance of identifying it and sourcing it. And you'll be able to get a schematic of the PCB to diagnose problems. But as far as most things go, it won't affect things that aren't worth fixing.
