I'm from Cameroon 🇨🇲🇨🇲. As an agricultural student, I can say I really admire Ghana's agricultural sector especially with cocoa production. I wish I could understand a thing 😭😢😢😢
It is very sad, that the insects disappeared and artificial pollination has to be performed. If we do not take care of our environment, other crops will follow
@@4abrownafrica939 But then again, we have put not only ourselves into an unnatural state but nature itself too. You think many species and ecosystems that we have driven to endangered status will survive without intervention? No. Btw, cacao isn't even native to Ghana so you're cherrypicking on what you consider to be natural
I have many cacao trees in Colombia and they are pollinated by very small insects called midges. Like the presenter said, many flowers are not pollinated for some reason, but the tree can support more pods, so why not hand pollinate? It's a wonderful idea that I'm going to try as well, but I will need reading/magnifying glasses ;-)
the pollen from the flower is too sticky and heavy to be carried by the wind, i think. the flowers are really small (2-3 inches or 5 to 7.6 centimeters) and you have to be really meticulous about pollinating them because the reproductive system is very intricate and hard to reach.
Hmmm.. though it's very good, also time consuming. Now that the Japanese have introduced machine that produce pollinating flies, why can't the government try that experiments too? At least they'll be able to pollinate more acres instead of only one.

Nice idea - well reading glasses could help. They have to remember which flowers were pollinated - spatial memory. Patience is a must.
Woooow woooow this training is really good for we the youth. The government must employ more into the system
Thank you for this!
Thanks for that good information
Nice one l really like it i want to learn how to do it on my farm
6:45 how can you manage to pollinate flowers in the garden?
@4:30 shows an up close view of how to pollinate.
Do u need two trees to pollinate?
Yes. Cocoa trees cannot self pollinate. Essentially it needs new male genetic information added to the female parts. Like animals!
Sucks for me indoor grower and trying to get a pod without self pollinating I’ll get one this yr I guess thanks for info
Cette technique est révolutionnaire Cependant nous prions de traduire la vidéo pour le plus grand bonheur de nous les francophone...
How can I get trained on this artificial hand pollination?
did they hit the 1 million metric tonnes goal?
How can I know different between male and female flower
Do they take the flowers with pollen from trees or from the ground?
It is very wanderful to see this method of work and i am trested to know how to get the male flowers
lack of details on what to pick and where it should be
Can you please show us a step-by-step tutorial on how to determine the male flower from female?
My bro say again step by step will help some of us to learn by ourselves
The male and female are on the same flower, it has male parts and female parts
generally, flowers will have male and female parts simultaneously
👏👏👏
good initiative

What happened to natural pollination?
It isn't doing enough
@@I.amthatrealJuan You mean its not doing enough for the unnatural capitalism. Left to nature, its enough!

@@I.amthatrealJuan When I said unnatural, I was referring to capitalism, not cocoa!
@@4abrownafrica939 Of course capitalism is unnatural, it is man-made as are other economic systems
Very Wonderful
Why do they do it not insects or wind?
Not entirely sure but Cocoa is not native to Africa so the insects required to polinate as efficiently as these people might not live there.

How do i get their contacts i need them for mine
bees for the trees
Bees are too big for cacao flowers - they are pollinated by midges
Massive
gila baru trpikir gw capek2 kasi pupuk tp buah sdikit, mau coba cara ini ahh

Je suis vraiment dans le besoin
Please English is a universal language
Get bees
Too big - midges are the pollinators
Eeii this work boring paaa oooo 😂 my formal work their payment is good thanks to the government
