I just installed the same fan on my X-MAXX. But I ended up using the zip ties because the pressure made the heatsink fit better onto the body of the motor. Without them it was really only touching on the sides of the can. Now after tightening the zip ties with pliers it appears to make solid contact all around the area of the can it covers. I am sure it will still help the temperatures even without the zip ties. But personally I would suggest to use them and tighten them down pretty tight as well. I did have to take the motor out of the truck to do this. But I think that only took 6 screws, So not a huge problem.
Keep in mind that if you change the stock gearing the fan will not fit properly. Changing to taller gears moved the motor to the side which prevents the fan shroud from sliding down. You may have to cut one side of the shroud depending on your gearing.
It seems counter intuitive that the fan would push air onto the heat sink rather than draw it off the top, given that heat naturally rises, or cold air sinks depending on who you ask.
At first it would seem that way, but just like a computer heatsink you want to blow the cool air INTO the heatsink because if you suck the air up you are effectively pulling air from the hottest part of the heatsync (the bottom) and drawing it over the cooler parts (the fins) which in turn makes it overall hotter. This is why its best to blow the air into it. Source: Lots of testing
Spunky Bob Actually cpu coolers draw air off the cooler, not onto it. You described the concept perfectly. The idea is to draw the heat away from the base and up through the fins where it can be dissipated.
Yep you are 100% correct! After posting this i went and checked my CPU cooler to make sure and realized I was turned around. I just came back to change my post and saw you replied :)
Spunky Bob No worries. Thank you for the response. I believe the fans on the castle cooler can be reversed so I plan on testing both ways and will post results when my cooler gets here.
Great idea and I agree it looks factory, now for the questions where did you buy it and if you don't mind how much. I think keeping the motor cool is a good step but what has me worried is the ESC over heating and catching fire like I have seen on a few videos now that is a worry, I have been taking extra care of mine incase it does happen to me which would suck.
This is intended for castle 2028 size cans. Don't understand how everyone used it on stock motors. Maybe because they are using the heat sink. Also won't zipties create hot spots where they touch the motor? Illogical Jim.
@@RCTanksTrucks247 My concern was the diameter of that cylindrical shape. The castle 2028 can is almost the size of a soda can. Wouldn't this part be too large for the stock can?
I just got this fan from a Hobby shop by me. Great video. Thank you. I may shave the inside down to make it sit flush also. Did you reverse the air flow though? is it better blowing down on the motor vs blowing out?
I notice that you don't have the fusable link jumper in your battery wire for your truck. Did you know they issued a recall on the esc for these? I think they just send you a new wire to replace the jumper with. I would check it out on the traxxas website and see if your truck is affected. Anyway, Good video! Are these fans expensive? Have you thought of running a 18t pinion?
If you want a durable rc car, the best thing is to get a rc shroud for it. Gets most of the water of your electronics including driving in rain. Driving in deep water is not recommended. Dirt gets everywhere...
Is the Traxxas X-Maxx waterproof? I've watched multiple different videos, of people getting insides covered in mud from using them, to driving over a damn lake, and through puddles! I was planning on buying one, and was wondering first of! 1) If insides get covered in dirt or wet mud will it break my traxxas? 2) Can i just use a (light pressure hose pipe) and spray the whole insides clean! 3) If i dropped it in a swimming pool would it be fine!. I am not a child, nor trying to ask stupid comments! sorry please don't assume so! i'm just confused with all these videos i see on youtube!
A heat sink draws air AWAY from the component it's connecting to. With that fan you are pushing air back in towards the heatsink and trying to cool it there. Really you should be reversing the fans and helping draw the hot air away from the motor - just like the heatsink on a computer CPU. You'll find it much more effective this way.
+Brent Jones I have had no issues with it. I have rinsed the truck with a hose several time with no problems. Electric motors generally are ok with some water.
RC Tanks & Trucks 24/7 that's good that tells me it's deff with it... even though this February .. traxxas putsvout the 8s full rtr for 899..ofbif u buy now you get the upgraded beef for 299...

Think you stripped the threads using that electronic screw driver

Hey man, yeah good point. Thanks for letting us know :)
not true the heat sink rotates on the motor. my hobby shop showed me how to do it. sorry boys. happy motoring.

yeah good point. would have to flip those fans around.

Got mines from tower hobbies for $11.00. Still haven't gotten the truck yet as they are out of stock until March 1st.
Is it set up for pushing air in or pulling hot air out?
+irok1d blowing air onto the motor, so pushing

Still works man. A motor is still a cylindrical shape
@@RCTanksTrucks247 My concern was the diameter of that cylindrical shape. The castle 2028 can is almost the size of a soda can. Wouldn't this part be too large for the stock can?

when you say 'just pop them out and flip them' how do you do that? it looks like mine are screwed in with wierd screws
Very nice explaining and editing.
Thanks :)
Would this fan work on the velenion system in a slash because I have the standard fan and heat sink but I still get too hot
is this fan cooler waterproof??:/
+Yash 1300 I have had no issues with mine. Generally electric motors have no issues with some water
will this fit a dbxle
Not sure man.
hello, with those lipo, how long can you shoot? do you have a link where I can buy them?
Viper83 Mark google is your friend. SMC batteries, google it.
Nice upgrade, good instructions
Indeed, plus cheap too
the receiver box is sealed with silicone grease and your supposed to bundle all excess wiring into the receiver box.

Yeah thanks man. I have contacted Traxxas already. Funny thing is my country, Australia is not available on the form. Wtf!
Hey how those smc batteries working for u in the xmaxx
Fantastic man. Great punch plus get around 40min run time. I can't fault them
+RC Tanks & Trucks 24/7 since ur running 9000 mah motor doesn't get hot
+JKRC Forlife6711 nothing out of the normal temperature range
Any idea for a fan on my 2300 kv brushless motor?
+Deerej18 not real sure but you could use a good quality Brushless computer fan.
Great. What the name of the camera you use?
+Vinh an Nguyen thanks, I use the Panasonic FZ1000
It the fan waterproof?
Thank you for the great detail on the installation. I want to get the x maxx but it sure seems like there are several add one right from the start.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comments. The fan will be splash resistant but not waterproof.

Is the fan water proof?
+Daniel Stevens doesn't say so but I have run it through water and no issues.

Yes but it has bearing everywhere and the oil will be washed out. So grease them befor and clean them after winter or whatever
I put this on e revo but fans don’t work anyone know anything that can help?
Check out the connections on the receiver. Plug it into another and check. Also see if there is anything stuck in the fan.

+iftibashir good point, I might have to try it. Thanks for watching and commenting
That is bullshit. Keep the setting as it is. It is better to push cold air onto the motor.
How do I switch the direction of it
Will this fit on a Hobbywing EZRUN MAX 56113 SL (800kv) motor?
sidlauskis yes! Put mine on today!
is it waterproff
+Brent Jones I have had no issues with it. I have rinsed the truck with a hose several time with no problems. Electric motors generally are ok with some water.
Resistant
I wanted to know, how it's work, no sound..
? No sound
Nice . I just ordered a fan. Thanks.
+huggyjd excellent. Thanks for watching
My fans are blowing in the opposite direction..They are pulling in air.. not blowing it out.
You want the gap to help air flow. Should be no need to trim. Great vid though. 😊
+o0wizzetta0o thanks :)
YES..
Rip the plastic threds for the screws
until it keeps popping off when landing and crashing
Never had that issue. It has only moved a little with a crash or huge landing

I want bigger. I want my xmaxx to sound like a fighter jet.
Great job!! I needed that info... Thanks
+12DOORF Fiteveryday You're welcome and thanks for watching
Awesome thanks you
FANtastic
+seepel Thankyou
Good Job ;)
Wtf r a better choice no question
Fan Install without running the fan. Come on
?
@RC Tanks & Trucks 24/7 wanted to hear the fans running after you took the time to make a good video that's all.
this fan is cheesy&cheap want a refund
