In 1974 I was given 3rd row tickets to a concert. The headliner was Slade. Playing before Slade was Robin Trower. The opening band was 10cc. A great night of live music.

Thank you every so much for probably the best 10cc review I so far have come across on RUclips. You must have done some study for sure to gather this material!
I'm happy to have seen and listened to Grahams current set up of the band in februray 2023, Gothenburg, Sweden last winter, and that consert still chase my mind. 10cc have followed my life for more than 50 years.
I will not line up all of my favourite tunes written by the band, but as I play guitar I can say "From Rochdale to Ocho Rios" is a quite catchy, fun and challanging tune to execute.
So is "I'm Mandy fly me".
    Asch....! they're all good.
    Cheers and thanks!

I loved 10CC since I first heard Wall Street Shuffle and Silly Love. Sheet Music is a stunning album that does not get the credit is deserves. This band created some of the best music of the 70’s (I’m not in love, I’m Mandy fly me, art for arts sake, life is a minestrone etc) their albums were works of imagination, passion and intelligence. Another favourite album of theirs is Deceptive Bends which is a quiet masterpiece. Just listen to Modern Man Blues and Feel the Benefit (what a guitar solo…wow) Some critics did not get them or actively hated them which is a shame because they were one of the best bands in the world in my opinion.

Great video Sean! One of the under-reported events prior to Kev and Lol leaving the band was that they, together with Graham, had decided to fire Eric as they felt he was spending too much time as a producer and becoming too powerful for the whole 4-way ethos of the band. Their management called in Eric and fired him but then Kev and Lol decided to quit as well so the management quickly reinstated Eric who was now having to work with Graham who had just voted him out (awwwkward!!). In spite of that, Deceptive Bends is a great album but just think...it could have been made by Godley, Creme and Gouldman which would have been at the least very interesting because Graham has a similar whacky side to his nature which would have come out more I'm sure. The guys all say that instead of leaving the band they should have just taken a couple of years out to do solo work and re-formed later on. The later 10CC albums became dominated by their "white reggae" sound and whilst they had a few cracking songs in that time they weren't hits. I think Eric and Graham had to continue making records due to contractual obligations but you can tell their hearts just weren't in it and even when Kev and Lol teamed up with them for Meanwhile, this was another contractual obligation thing so once again no-one was trying too hard. I do think that if Eric had been allowed to produce Meanwhile things might have turned out differently but who knows? Kevin will occasionally turn up with the current touring band to do the odd song or background video but whilst I reckon there could have been a reunion at one stage there was too much bad blood between Eric and the others and as he has officially retired from the business now I reckon that's never going to happen. As they say the brightest candles burn too damn quickly.

I, like many, first heard Wall Street Shuffle on the radio and was hooked. I bought their first two albums and loved them, and continued to be a fan buying new releases as they came out (Original Soundtrack, How Dare You, and Deceptive Bends) up until Bloody Tourists. They fell off my radar after that, but much to my surprise, just recently, thanks to RUclips algorithms, I chanced upon the song 24 Hours, and checked out the album it came from which I totally missed previously and loved it's progressive nature, especially the aforementioned 24 Hours, which should have been a hit. I dived into the other releases but found them, as you did, to be rehashes of old ideas or worse, uncharacteristically bland. But, oh my love for those 70's albums, oh yes!

Nice little documantary. Became fan some years too late: the band was already split up and even on a pause. But luckily I saw them life with their meanwhile tour. Meanwhile btw is one of their most underestimated albums, together with Windows in the Jungle (such a nice concept album). Unfortunatly the project to create a top album, with the 4 original members and Paul McCartney and Andrew Gold failed. Kevin and Lol hardly had the time and the producer wasnt able to make it great. Maybe it should have been more focused on the old 4, with out McCartney stuff. But we will never now.

A much under-rated band. In the punk period they were deemed too mainstream and were damned by the so-called rock cognoscenti because of their musical and technical ability. Probably damned too for their origins in the previous musical generation. This completely misses the cynical humour in their lyrics directed at imperialism, religion, capitalism, the music biz and authority in general. All targets any self-respecting UK punk in the mid- to late 1970s would be happy to throw rhetorical bricks at, if not actual ones.
10cc are also unfortunate not to be regarded as a “true” Manchester band in the same way Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, The Fall & Joy Division are. Probably because their sound was largely a pastiche Americanism, that lacked the raw distinctiveness of their successors. It shouldn’t be forgotten that Joy Division recorded their debut album Unknown Pleasures at 10cc’s Strawberry Studios so there is a continuity of sorts between the generations.
If 10cc is to be remembered for just one song, I’m Not in Love is fitting; a perfect mix of art rock and pop to create a timeless legacy that is distinctive, technically complex and delightfully poppy.
