Beautiful area out there Steve. I started going out to the So. Cal. desert when I was 13 and began racing the Hare and Hound D37 Series and over many years really grew to love the beauty the desert offers. That area out there is gorgeous. My favorite time for riding is early morning or late afternoon when the harshness of the midday sun hasn't yet started or is over. You take a lunch with you on these rides? You do a lot of riding alone. I do remember the video last year when you were with a group and riding these rolling cactus filled hills. That was a beautiful but foreboding area as I recall.

I couldn't agree more...south western USA desert riding is some of the most relaxing, beautiful, and challenging terrain to ride IMHO. I think the ride last year was out in the Nelson Hills area...tons of cacti with a lot of slower single track...very challenging for a vertically challenged rider like myself (I cannot dab...I just tip-over!). Cool on D37 racing... I've ridden/raced many states and several countries...all types of terrain conditions...and I love riding the south western part of the USA the most. The ability to have insane views at almost any point of the ride is beyond awesome (vs riding in thick trees/forests). I do about 90% solo riding with 4-9 hours being my normal ride duration (70-300 miles...depending on terrain complexity). I rarely ever take a lunch (or stop for lunch)...just have a large camelback for fluids...and maybe several slices of bread in a zip-lock bag...been doing it that way since 1979 (dating myself some...).

It was 100+ miles of practicing missing rocks at speed...I got a lot better at it as the day progressed! 😉
