with 20 yrs of working in photoshop. the yi+ will be easier to color correct. the yi still has purple in the sky, but from the examples posted on UT it beats the gopro 4&5. (which is the reason i bought the y+)
the Yi+ has much better detail in the darker areas. this is a key to knowing it will be better in low light conditions.
    thx for he work.

PegadanG oNlen , that is good for home use. too large to make a long video. file size eats up everything.
the wider the lens angle the better to colors. to get blue skies out of a camera u need 18-20mm.

you can convert the 4k30 into 60fps pretty easily in post if you have time/a powerful PC

"you can convert the 4k30 into 60fps pretty easily in post if you have time/a powerful PC"
It is a bit like saying you can turn $100 to $200 using a photocopier. The extra $100 created this way is worth nothing. And similarly converting a 30fps to 60fps has absolutely no value. If you are shooting a fast moving object, say tennis, or a car, or any other sport, the 60fps camera will produce 60 different images every second. You can pause a tennis video and see if the ball touched the line. A 30fps camera on the other hand will show you a blur. And no amount of postprocessing will recreate the missing images.

Every action camera company is racing to get clarity and FPS pumped way up. I get that. But I can't help but wonder why virtually none of them are in a race to conquer wind noise... I mean.. WTF.. these are OUTDOOR cameras. You'd think they'd get some engineers onto this issue and come up with solutions that are "built in"--whether noise cancelling software or very well designed mics with wind socks as part of the design. I am extremely glad that the 4K+ can utilize a remote mic, though some of the reports I've read say it doesn't work with a LOT of mics. (an impedance issue ?).
By the way, your 4K+ video is sure crisp and with better color saturation at 60fps. Damn nice.

    • @TKBay
      @TKBay  7 лет назад +1

I tried and I could not get it work with the Gopro mic at my local bestbuy but Honestly I would say if you are looking for good audio I would get a Zoom external mixc and Sync the footage in post. that way you get top quality audio. not the best answer but a possible solution.

Why won't people like yourself, sir, not understand that these are ACTION cameras - video footage where people ride a bike down the mountain, film while surfing, while jumping into water, while secretly filming girls' bikini in the swimming pool... AND adding MUSIC on top of all these footages.
      These is no field camera.
Please, all of you, get it, once and for all.

Thanks for posting the native file from the 4K+, I downloaded it last night and had a really good look at it on my NLE, and ordered the camera this morning. The picture is awesome, at any price, but on Amazon UK at the moment you can pick it up for £200, which is a total no brainer. I'm a long time GoPro user who has become less than impressed with their 5 and 6, I'd already considered the Yi 4K+ before buying the the GP6, but unfortunately bought the GP6. The GP6 has got so much over saturation in its chroma, its like watching a TV in shop demo mode, where everything is cranked up.
I've seen people moan that the 4K+ has washed out muted chroma, this really isn't the case, it's simply a more natural tone compared to the boosted chroma on the GP6. The GP5 has got better colour than the 6 in auto mode, but still on the boosted side. There does seem to be a tone and maybe a perceived resolution difference between the 4K and the 4K+. Some of this could be down to comparing the 4K+ at 60FPS to the 4K at 30. At 60FPS the 4K+ will need more light and if they both record at roughly the same high bitrate in 4K, the 4K+ would be using roughly half the file size per frame at 60FPS compared to a frame of 30FPS at the same overall bitrate, all things that will definitely make differences.
Again, thanks for making the file available for download, I for one really appreciate your generosity and good will. Watching your file was the last push I needed to make the purchase. Cheers, Dave.

I think it comes down to what you use it for! As far as picture quality goes, I think companies are doing trade offs to get the effect they want out of their camera. Some are better in bright condition, others are better at low lights. Most of these top ends are similar, give and take, when it comes to image. When it comes to image stability however, the Gopro 6 is the best that I've seen so far.

Far better color on the plus, the extra 30fps makes a massive difference which is my biggest reason for not having purchased a 4k action camera to date. The plus is so much smoother, especially in the areas outside of the direct center focal point. That was about as flawless as one could want. Wow is all i can say.

I personally like the 4k+ footage, I work with video cameras all the time, and the 4k footage is oversharp and too punchy. while the 4k+ is softer and has better gradual colour temperature. the internal colour profile must have change between the 2 cameras, for me I can only imagine how much better the 4k+ would be to work with in post! but even still I like the image out of the 4k+ as it is much better than 4k...

Aside from framerate, 4k+ footage looks more cinematic to me as it is bit softer, so I think it is more usefull out of the box if you are into that kind of looks. Having 60fps makes it really much more versatile camera as 4k slomo looks really nice. Oh yeah... did you use same sharpness settings on both cameras?

Thank you for this vid. Its impressive how much smoother the 4k+ looks due to the doubled framerate. Seems that the details per frame are a bit better on 30 fps, but this can be choosen on the 4k+ also. With image stabilazation on FHD 60fps, this camera is quite the improvement over the normal 4k. Increadable how smooth the 60fps look ^^

I agree with most people when saying that the 4K + is more green than the older one. Could you provide us with some RAW dng files to check them in terms of photography and not videography? I shoot underwater videos and photos and I would like to replace my sj camera which does not shoot raw. Some people cliam that the yi cameras are better than go pros so I would lime to form an opinion before purchasing anything.

external mic is sth important, this is why yi didn't included bluetooth external mic support in standard 4k, even they for months after release claimed addition of this feature, but they didn't do that!

Very helpful comparison, thanks for posting. I am new to the action camera but on a limited budget and looking for the best "bang for the buck". My primary use will be indoor volleyball matches. I assume the higher the frame rate the better chance I will have a slowing down the playback or even stepping frame by frame. Is this correct ? What difference would I see between 1080 @ 60FPS and 4K @ 60FPS?

    • @TKBay
      @TKBay  7 лет назад

  • @NeoViny

I compared both yesterday evening and what I recognized is this:
4K has some very blurry highlights when shooting towards sunny sceanery (Windows f.e.)
4K has more detailed sky based on better colors in that area, the blue looks more real to me
4K contrast looks flat sometimes when its directly compared to 4K+ footage
4K seems to be overexposing 1ev compared directly to the 4k+ / stopping down results in darker image of course but the blurry effect is still visible
    4K produces a warmer image
4k+ has better contrast (way better in shadows)
4K+ has much better Slow Motion (tested in 1080p4x Mode) with no flickering in the scene
4K+ set on „Middle fov „ is a lot less fov than the 4k ???? Huuuu? (1080p50fps Mode)
4K+ produces way better colors in the shadows
4K+ sky looks more white than blue (had no time to try a different w.b. / setting has been on auto w.b.)
4K+ battery seems to go down faster than the 4k during the test, but I have to admit that it comes from using a Bluetooth remote on the 4k+ and I controlled the 4k manually
To me, the warmer colors of the 4k looks better, specially the blue sky. But on the other hand, the 4k+ looks better over all in image quality but has a few weird issues, the narrow middle-set fov or the less contrast sky f.e....
Did someone tested it with same results? For me, all in all I prefer the 4k+ a bit more due to the better image quality and the non existing heavy blurry highlights... they look bad on the 4K footage

A year later now, I got a great deal on a Yi 4K+ and I think the Flat color on my Yi 4k+ is very accurate. I can bring out more color or change the tint, etc. if I want with a video editor. Do you have an external mic you recommend? Wind noise is too loud sometimes on mine and I cannot hear anything else, but on a calm evening the camera mic works fine.

Anybody looking at this who is thinking "Gee i'll get a great camera to make a million on youtube" the content of your video, the uniqueness you can offer, the educational value ect, trumps all of these matters by a long way's. If you can't make a channel a success by using expensive camera's, (or even your cell phone) getting a great camera isn't going to magically put you over that hump. From personal experience in business/life getting the best equipment when you start something doesn't make nearly as much difference as your talent/effort/ingenuity (spell check). Go with cheap things and when you have the money buy the better things. A simple cell phone with a camera can do it, if it can't, spending the extra money wasn't going to make it happen anyway so you cut your loses.

    Please answer my questionn
I have just buy a yi 4k+ camera, i using sd card class 10 16Gb, but when i record video, my video divided into multiple clips when I recording. Every clips about 1 minute or less.
So, how can record video with video length 1hour or better.
    Thank you so much

    • @TKBay
      @TKBay  7 лет назад +1

the cutting is due to buffering on your SD, you need something faster then just class 10. try this one I used on the same camera. SD card used: amzn.to/2vYg6yu

Stop wasting time looking for such videos, like myself. I understand it, FINALLY, all clearly:
OF COURSE that companies will put a shitty contrast, so that you will not get enough details from the shadows, change the color a bit and lower the framerate (from the firmware inside) of the chip - which, if someone, knows how to hack it, you could pull that framerate back up, again...
ALL OF THIS, so that they can justify the higher or lower cost of the cameras.
GoPro does this, as well, NO company is different - if they were different, they would just put out one or maximum two products, of the same series,
not 3, 4, 5 versions, to try to cover all possible budgets and customers.
Is like making a Lambo for kids, one for teens, one for adults and one for racers and one for older racers, one for showing off, one for not showing off, instead of just making ONE PERFECT one
and do not give a sheet who buys it, BUT do care that THE ONE buying that, that person will be the happiest person alive.

Wrong test... These cameras is ACTION cameras. Its is not for walking or filming landscapes on a tripod. So... make a FAST paning test with both cameras and there is the MONSTRUS difference between 30 and 60 fps that can do the plus model and it is the only in planet that can do this.
