- Going through my Reed Vise to give it a deep cleaning. Let me know if the main nut is supposed to be broken or not, either way it goes back together and works fine.

There is just something pleasing in running a tap into a threaded hole to clean it out. It is nice to see people taking care of their equipment.
If it's not taken care of it wont last or function as it should. Honestly I should have done this a long time ago but better late than never. :)
And there yah go nice vice 👌
Thank you. :)
Hello good to see you being able to post more videos. Glad fire season is past!
It's nice to get some stuff done in the shop. I've been helping a few people out lately so I haven't been around to get any content out and it takes about 4 hours to upload. lol Hopefully Starlink gets us hooked up soon. :)
I don’t have and in my 70s, very much doubt if I will have a sturdy vice. Very much enjoy watching someone take tools and machinery apart, service and put back into many more years of use. Well done. 👍👍
Thank you. I love this old vise. Thanks for watching. :)
Very nice. Iam in the process of cleaning and refurbishing an old Reed. A 214R. What was you date of manufacture? Below the patent number, or @ 2” below the oil hole. Thanks for a nice video.
Carl
I cant find a date of manufacture anywhere on it.
Could you please tell me what kind of grease do you use for the vise!!
I used regular bearing grease. There might be a special grease some people use but I haven't had a problem with regular grease. Thanks for watching. :)
Could you tell me what thread count you used for cleaning out set screw? Thanks
I should have made a note of the thread on that set screw but I didn't. Later when I get back, if I remember, I will check it and let you know. :)
The one that fits
Did you ever find out that set screw tap size?
Yes, I used a set screw 3/8” long and 3/8”-24.
@@tonylenge424 Thanks!
Nice Work!
So many horror shows out there painting thes poor beautiful vises purple and metallic blue 😂
Thank you. I prefer the natural look of a vice. If it gets some overspray on it from use I dont mind but I wouldn't paint it like I was going to enter it in a show. Thanks for watching. :)
