Wow Jean Michel! Tried this in the very early 80s. My brother and I could never pull it off. Just got a copy with a determination to finally play this guy and your video was very helpful and entertaining, thank you.
An amazing video series. My family pulls this game out occasionally and plays a game, but it always takes a while to re-learn the rules. This entire video series is a HUGE help, because we were just setting the game up again, and the guide is very informative and well designed. I especially appreciate some of the tips for tactics.
I taught Magic Realm to 6 players at a convention and one of them mentioned that he watched these videos. Despite having played twenty times, I have already found one detail that I didn't know. It is a great resource, and I will be watching the rest of them.
Ah, Wizard times ahead. Thank you I look forward to going through the series. A very interesting game, highly innovative, with wonderful thematic evocation. You're video will help me re-grasp the rules for my next game. Cheers!
Thanks so much for doing this series of videos. I've only watched the first one so far but look forward to viewing all of them. Got a copy of Magic Realm a couple of years ago and have gone through the rules for the initial basic training game (no magic). I have a reasonable handle on how it plays but haven't played yet since I haven't felt like I could teach it. Plan to use your videos to reinforce (and correct as necessary) my understanding of the rules. Really appreciate the time and effort you've put into this!
Hi, Jean, thank you for your videos! I came for Oath, stayed for Magic Realm, and will follow everything I can. Just by curiosity: are you a professional teacher? Because your ability to partition content and present it in a sequential and logical manner is very pedagogic, in the best sense of the term!
This is excellent! I truly appreciate you making this series! Thumbs up and have subscribed! I await the notification of the next video! Keep up the excellent work!
Incredible videos! Just a question, is there some kind of written version of your tutorials, or any plan to make it? I think it would be nice to have it as a handy reference. Thanks!
@@KokoLeMakak Don't hurry. These seem like they could become the definitive teaching series. Very well explained and illustrated with examples. Well worth the wait for the rest!

Well, Mage Knight is the spiritual successor of Magic realm I think, cause it keep all magic and complexity, and yes, it is a sanbox too!. If there is any game that could come close to in mechanics and exploration of Magic realm, Mage knight is the game without a doubt.
Thank you very much for this series! I'm making the print and play redesign, and have one question. How important are the colors in the rulebook? (The game is printed in color ofc). I'm asking because it's around 60 bucks to print everything in color, vs 15 in B/W
wonderful video, this is my last chance to learn this game. I have tried in 1990, and later in at least other four attempts in past 25 years. All failed. I have tried with all rules version known and, finally, also with the famous "book of learning" but it was too much for me. I have played two full games via forum with different opponents and GMs tutoring newbies, but again, with scarce success. This game overwhelms me. ASL ( Advanced Squad Leader) that I play since 1993 is a lot easier. These videos are my last and perhaps best opportunity. Thank you Jean Michel
@@kedabro1957 in the Board Game Geek forum dedicated to Magic Realm. There are many players available; you just need an experienced GM that organizes the game and keeps the game moving
He's actually got the rules wrong for calculating the final score. He has a base score of -7 as you state, but unless I missed it (I just glanced quickly to answer your question), he has not factored in any remaining starting gold and the value of the White Knight's starting equipment. Edit: Nevermind I believe he did factor some of that in, but the score is definitely wrong.
I'm not convinced that you need complex rules in order to get rich game experiences. Does Go have complex rules? It was the mistake of old game designers to think that more complex meant more realistic or more deep. Actually, depth and complexity are totally different things. You can have a complex game that is shallow.
Of course, Go is an excellent and deep game. But I'm not talking about all games. I'm talking about "games that tell a story". I call them "immersion games" and these are the games I try to promote with my channel. These type of games are sand boxes. They give tools to the players to build their own story. They try to immerse players into a remote universe, a magic kingdom, a foreign planet... With these games, the experience you build is not "four friends around a table" but "four adventurers deep into the jungle". And I'm convinced that the more you have tools in your tool box, the more vivid will be the experience. As all story tellers know in Hollywood, realism is in the detail. Modern "euro" games tend to abstract the world they set in. They favours mechanism over story. They are often good games but not my kind of games.
A man after my own tastes. It's nice to see someone who appreciates both Go and even Euro-games but isn't blow away or bowing at the altar of the mechanics of these games that are pure strategy or worker placement/resource management. FINALLY, someone out there likes the deep heavy, immersive, stuff like Magic Realm! @@KokoLeMakak

If you are only talking about the rulebook, you don't need any color. B&W is perfect. For the game parts, of course, you need color printing.

I play with rules v3.1. My videos are based on these rules.

Is there any possibility to buy a brand new one?
in the victory points section. Didnt White Knight earn: -37x3=111 points? His goal was 30 but he earned -7. You mentioned he earned: -21p.
