- Marathons are hard! But they're meant to be. So when I went out to the limit of my ability after 25 hours of travel to NYC I was about to redefine what feels hard for me... It doesn't always go to plan, but that's why we have multiple plans right? So here is my experience of the NYC Marathon 2023.

man, you guys are just total rock stars...between the jet lag, travel, tough course...to STILL get a PB? that is nuts. huge congrats to both of you, what an effort 🔥
It is really balls they achieved it
Now I wonder how fast he could have bin without those issues.
I ran my first marathon on Sunday. I blew up in the last 10k and had to walk up a lot of the hills but I got the course done. Just means I need to run another in the future. NYC was so fun that I will look forward to it. Hard to imagine a better race experience anywhere.
Spotted @BillyYang in the back at 8:00 - congrats to all you heroes! 🎉👍
My two favourite people smashing NYC ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My husband was randomly watching your video and realized he is in your video! He was right behind you for a good chunk of the race. You can also see him a little ahead of you in the Bronx section on the bridge. (His name is Moncef Attia). Congrats on your PB! That’s awesome!!
Crazy is not the word I’d use…That travel itinerary AND a marathon is insane!!! Great job getting it done!
Congratulations to you both! You two are amazing! That jet lag must have been something! I was able to catch Mary on video just shortly after halfway, in Queens. So focused! PBS all around 🎉
Congrats! Amazing results. You're an inspiration for so many people. I'm a total newbie and also in my forties, just did my first 3 parkruns recently. I enjoyed it so much so now I'm flirting with the idea of running a marathon in April. It escalates quite fast :D
Hardest race I have ever done , you guys both smashed it very well done !
"The two videos have come together" me waiting to see Mary and only seeing her at the end 😂
Congratulations to both of you 👏
Congrats on your PB. 🎉Well done!
One NY in 1999. The crowd noise was really draining and I agree with you about the last part through Central Park being endless. And so hilly on tired legs!
Congratulations! As a runner of a certain age (ahem) who is also an educator, you two are so very inspirational.
Absolute MADNESS what you two did. Get some good rest!
Massive respect to you both... ticked off a dream race, fair play! Well done!
So cool! Running a PB is always exciting, running one at a Major is even better! Thanks for the motivation.
I came across your channel several weeks ago and have really gained some valuable information as I watch your video's. I began my health journey/complete lifestyle change about 2 years ago after some serious health issues. I've since dropped about 200 pounds and took up running about 10 months ago. I've done several 5ks, 10ks, and did my first half marathon last month. I entered into the lottery to run the Chicago marathon next year. If I don't get selected for that one I intend to run our local marathon here in Columbus. While my times are no where yours its truly inspiring to watch you guys run. Congrats on the race and your PB.
Thanks for the journey...that maybe the only full marathon I run! ☮
I would've been exhausted from that kinda traveling! You two rock, and the marathon looked like such a cool experience - as a European I'm definitely jealous of the American cheering/hype culture for races!
The vibe was unreal!! Incredible support 🙌🏼
Thank you for sharing the reality of how life can change up training plans and how to muddle through it. Best of luck in Valencia, I know you'll do great! We're all cheering for you!
NY is hard, the fact that you PB’d is amazing!!
Congratulations to you both! I’m so happy for you.
Congratulations you pair of inspirations! To travel more than 20 hours, then run a marathon!? Incredible!
Congratulations you two! You are super amazing! Outstanding!❤❤
Man. You are rockstars. And this video is DA BOMMB❤❤❤❤
I was following you on the app. I actually cheered but missed you guys, ypu were so fast I wasn't in position yet.
Congratulations
Congratulations to both of you. Another great video. I ran my first marathon in Dublin last week and had a similar experience. Everything was going to plan up to 33km, and then the legs started to go. Heart rate and breathing were fine, just the legs. Had to drop the pace by 30 seconds per km in order to finish reasonably comfortably. Thank you both for getting me through my first marathon, aged 56. I have been looking at all your videos over the last 6 months and you both inspire me
Brilliant, well done Ben & Mary, fantastic running and brilliant vlog,
so so pleased for both of you! Well done!!
Great video Ben! I've only started running this year in my fifties but you’ve inspired me to aim for the Sydney, Australia marathon towards the end of next year!
That’s fantastic. Well done guys.
NYC is a tough marathon (that's the NYC way -"if you can make it there...".) so be very proud. This is my home marathon (I live right near the finish line). Fortunately, Chicago was my goal race and NYC was my "fun" race. I too, am doing Boston so look forward to training along.
great great running, I'm really impressed and look forward to Mary's race recap !!
What a crazy itinerary! Like an elite force moving in for a mission and get out immediately after mission completed. Big congratulations!
Congratulations Mary and Ben, welcome to Boston 🎉
I would take you up on the training plan but I broke my foot 2 weeks ago, so no spring Eugene Marathon. I am hoping for the fall Portland Marathon. Your NYC marathon times are both impressive - I've run that and its deceptively hilly. You really earned that burger.
Amazing!!! Congratulations!!! Truly inspiring!!
Bridges by name and bridges on the day!
So happy for both of you. Big Congratulations !!!
You guys rock! Congrats Ben for running a PB 🎉
Great times, well done 👍 🎉
Thank you Ben and Mary for keeping us inspired! I truly enjoy watching your videos. Please know you two are making a difference in many people’s lives across the world. Congratulations on your latest race and please keep the videos coming!!
Congrats to both of you and really great meeting you before and after the race!
So good to meet you and well done to you too. What a day!
Congrats to you both on a fantastic finish. Running that distance is hard enough, add in jet lag and no time to adjust to the new location.
Congratulations guys. You are true inspiration ❤
Well done Ben! You did so well to get a PB despite the jet lag, hills etc. You should be super proud of that.
That travel was brutal! Congrats to you both!!
Congrats! I do long air travels from Asia to North America often and I know that takes a toll on my body & I take days to recover, to be able to finish a sub 3 marathon after travelling for that long is IMPRESSIVE! Great job man! Speaks to the dedication and passion you have for running.
Love it Ben! Well done for filming so that we could come along with you for the ride. I warn you now, Boston is a very challenging course too. Get ready for rolling hills all the way and some pretty hefty hills from 17-21 miles. I have no doubt you and Mary will smash it though. Shake Shack fully deserved 😊😊😊
Nice job, im jealous I wish I could run that fast.
Dude you hit the wall and still hit a 2:53?? That is great. Congratulations!! And Mary with a 3:23, also a great performance on a tough course. Congratulations to both of you!!
Congratulations to you both , great results 👏👏
Well done Ben, that is an awesome PB on a tough course even without all of the jet lag etc👍 Looking forward to seeing Mary's video.
Love your channel and all the great content. You guys are great inspiration.
Brilliant stuff the atmosphere looked fantastic and a PB awesome stuff. Keep the content coming, love it!
Well done. 👏👏👏 It looked like you both had a fun time (apart from the brutal hills, of course!)
Amazing, congratulations to both of you for achieving the new PB and Landmark. Always love your videos. Wish I could run someday. 👍👍👍👍👍💗💗💗💗💗
You both are inspirational. So glad I found this channel.
Congratulations to both of you!!!
Great job to both of you.
Those last few hills definitely impact everyone’s finish.
It's such a confidence booster once you've bagged your longest runs. Great work! Sometimes I prefer to take maybe half a gel, let it settle, and then have the other half. So far, I've stayed sticky fingers free 😂
Outstanding, well done to both of you. ❤🎉
Fantastic work! Really hoping to run a BQ at the Dallas Marathon in December. You guys are inspirations!
Congratulations! Love watching your journey.
Congrats! I followed both of you race day and was cheering for you on the app, and I've joined the waitlist - I'm running my first marathon in London in 2024 (I'm from Canada)!
wow , amazing effort well done , all those flights , logistics , getting to the start line then running a marathon with the go pro for a PB!! , brilliant well done , you both deserve to super proud of yourselves , brilliant 👍👍👍, your channel is fantastic and very motivating , thank you
Love it. Good job! The travel would have 100% taken the 'freshness away'. Chin up Pb is a Pb!
I've probably watched this a million times already ~ I'm loving how natural you are at the very very end! What happened? x
While filming! Madness! Love it!
Congrats, Ben and Mary inspire me to do better, love the enthusiasm
Congrats both, you smashed it 💪🏼
Well done both... 💪👏
NYC and a PB and what must be one of the shortest duration long distance journeys to a race. I did notice you sneak a little business class flight in there. I think that was wise. Well done Ben.
Well done Ben and Mary!
Congratulations to both of you! I absolutely love how you're both supportive to each other. Keep up the good work, i love your videos.
Wow. PB in NYC is amazing. Tough course. Well done Mary ....What an amazing time for both of you. Loved this video
This is so awesome! Congratulations to you & Mary! 🏃♂️❤️🏃♀️ See ya in Boston….. I will be running too 🦄💙💛
That was amazing guys thanks so much for allowing us all to come along for the ride so inspirational 👍👍
Congratulations Ben and Mary! You’re superstars, and I love your videos. Sometimes I put them on while I run, so it feels like I’m hanging out with you two. 😂 Your tips and positivity have helped me to cross into trail ultras, and to shift my mental approach to running. I now see it as my forever sport, and have embraced the long arc of self improvement. “This Messy Happy” is my zen. Thank you both for everything you do.
A totally crazy trip to fulfill your dream. You guys rock!!! Congratulations on your fantastic results 🎉
Congratulations Ben and Mary. So pleased for you both, you certainly put the work in for those pb's and you've reaped the rewards. Love NYC, luckily enough to have visited it twice.
Looking forward to Mary's videon and her experience tomorrow.
One of your best video's! Great inspirationnnnn...
Incredible job both of you!! 🎉
Great job! One day I will run the NYC marathon. Fun watching.
Massive respect Ben and Mary! And the intro to this video was beautifully put together. Loved it!
You did well.. think the stats are under 1% of people ever even attempt a full marathon.. so amazing
Well done... BOTH of you! Cheers!
Congrats on the PB, all the videos I watch say how hard this course is and you did it after that journey there as well, amazing !!! Go Mary too, I'd never make a 3:23 on a flat course never mind NYC!!
Awesome results, congrats to you both!! I was hoping I might see you at the finish or something to say hello. What an amazing atmosphere it was…such a buzz! Was my first marathon and I finished in 3.19. Have been living in NYC for a long time and always wanted to do this…truly a dream come true.
Congratulations Ben and Mary and the PB as well! I recently ran the Coast Marathon in the Netherlands on my first trip to Europe. It was tough.
That’s an impressive result with all the travel. Have been a viewer for quite some time now.
All the best from Manitoba, 🇨🇦
Unbelievable, such strength!
Ben and Mary ✌Congratzzzz thanks so much for charing 😊😄😎
I tracked you both. Congratulations!! You did amazing. I can’t believe how well you did after such a long travel. It shows what amazing athletes you both are!
True inspirations! You guys rocked it.
excellent times, i was lucky enough to do it 2018, absolutely magical.
The vibes are unmatched 🎉 Congrats!
Can’t wait to follow along. I have a HM in April and I’m scared for the winter coming. 😢🇨🇦
Amazing job to you both! Loved hearing about the struggles, super inspirational 🎉
Thanks for documenting the highs and the lows! I spotted myself just ahead of you starting at about 6:22. I had a great day out there, due in large part to the electric atmosphere.
All I know is that I didn't know what day you actually got back home lol... Solid race sir!
I love following this wild and exciting journey! Such a positive and give it your all attitude is definitely inspiring! Thank you for making and sharing the videos of this race (and all the others), it makes feel like I was there. I've never wanted to run a marathon, I'm strictly a half runner, but you two have changed my mind! I'm not ready to join the program for the marathon in the Spring right now and I'm super jelly, but I will start that training after my half in March. Just super happy for both of those PBs!! Congratulations🎊 🎉🏅🏅🏃 🏃
Superb effort from you both. Congratulations. 👏 👏
