It only works if it comes with the vehicle without needing to customize it, only exception is podium vehicles, podium vehicles often come already customized. When the snorkel is only available through customizations, it's most likely cosmetic.

Lmao, the Semi is totally broken in this regard, the intakes was completely under water, that would have hydro locked the engine. So apparently the semi have an invisible snorkel.
The exhaust can be under just as long as the engine stays running, if the exhaust is under water deep enough and the engine is off then you'll run into all kinds of problems, including hydro locking the engine.
Last time I was this early, the GTA games weren't even 3D

that depends on how high the engine node is on a vehicle model the baller may have a slightly higher node than most cars but there inst a car in game that has a functional snorkel, however if you lift the engine node in 3d software such as Zmodler3 you can make it so a snorkel some what works but as soon as the engine node touches water it kills the car.

Xiao Ming Lee not really it's unnecessary if your vehicle is lifted and if it isn't then you shouldn't be offroading anyway.
Well even if it is lifted you are still limited by the height of your air intake so without a snorkel once the water gets up to the intake you flood flood the engine. With a snorkel now you can potentially have the entire car submerged so long as no water gets into the engine.
The water will still get in your diff if you don't got diff breathers

The snorkels are pointless, if your engine goes into water then your alternator and starter will not work also it might short the battery In the car. snorkels don't work unless the alternator, starter, gearbox, and diffs are sealed. also it will destroy your fan belt.

I'm very sorry, but how is this an effective test of whether or not the snorkel mod does anything? you took three different vehicles with snorkels as deep as they would go... but you didn't compare them to how deep the SAME vehicles WITHOUT snorkel mods will go. also, I'd like to point out that you were on the beach... in wavy water instead of testing in still water. during the close-up of the second vehicle's snorkel, you can literally see a wave go into the exhaust screen at the top of the snorkel and the vehicle stalls.

the snorkel is a air intake not an exhaust. it allows air to get to the pistons when underwater. you need oxygen to burn anything, without the air the engine would not run.

You realize that the semi truck did so well because it’s exhaust is above the water, the exhaust of a vehicle can swallow water causing the car or truck to die. Snorkels don’t always keep your truck from dying, they just prevent it

Donald Trump the dubsta's snorkel is an add on that is purely cosmetic and if you look at where the exhaust used to be you'll see that smoke is still coming out as though if the muffler is still there.

The way GTA determines if your car can breathe is if your exhaust is underwater, that's why semis with their tall exhaust can go deep and on the duneloader, you can actually see exhaust fumes coming out of the snorkel, because that's how they programmed it to make the snorkel work.

I have used one of the Military Trucks (one for transporting) (can be found by the Lost and Dammed Trailer Park) and drove it all the way through to the bridge just outside of Fort Zancudo. Deep water at some point and rough spots but it makes it fine. Drove the Bison Truck and didn't have much luck with that one

The reason why the trucks go deeper are because of the smoke stacks at the top. (Intake to the engine, water doesn’t flood in,..)

That semi trailer proved that the snorkel is just a cosmetic since there was no air intake above the water. Should have done some more baseline tests with other cars without snorkels to see if the snorkels would make a difference.

interesting! but yeah, an exaust snorkel is needed as well, though obv not as important as the intake side, bc you will hydraulically lock the engine..best case scenario, you'll need a new connecting rod & a bearing on the same journal the rod was on. but when your exaust pipe is under water, you lose a whole heap of power..maybe even stall the engine, even if you keep your foot on the accelerator to keep the water out and/or don't shut the engine off. good 'ol Rockstar!

Non of you are right the semi truck has a Diesel engine and diesels don’t have spark plugs they have glow plugs so as long as you keep a semi truck going in the water you’ll be fine
the motor will still stop if it gets a large amount of water in the intake because the engine is not getting any air.

you have to realize that a snorkel only helps so much, if the entire electric grid is submerged such as the batery even a snorkel wont help

What I think I have noticed in GTA V is that the exhaust matters A LOT towards whether a car will stall or not. All three with snorkels had their exhausts completely submerged and by the time you had tried to have constant full throttle they had already taken in water from the exhaust, but when you had the truck with a snorkel backed in, for some reason I guess the angle of the exhaust made a seal that prevented water intruding combined with throttle creating pressure to pushing exhaust out. If you would have submurged the rig past the exhaust stacks it probably would have stalled.
Try testing cars with vs without snorkels
The intake is actually the exhaust pipes because on the mobile ops center truck it can go over the pipes and not die at all. U can drive in water over the roof

I think it’s how far below the surface the bonnet/engine is, that’s why the merryweather jeep died before the trucks imo
