For the usage case for temporary storage/tote at the beach, I think the 50L Yeti Camino Carryall would be a better option. As long as you can do without a lid, the tote is just no-nonsense and functional and has a 500 pound carrying capacity (seriously overbuilt). I highly highly recommend Yeti Camino for hauling for a day trip to the beach. I own three Rux 70L’s for car camping - one for stove/cooking, one for sleep, and one for other stuff like tent, tarp, stake stuff. I just like the rectangular shape for storing and hauling cargo. I could forgo the collapsibility for stackability and I’d prefer if they had harder and stronger stays which might need to be manually removed for storage/collapsing.
This is super true. Yeti is pricey too but both are premium products
That would be an excellent solution for a laundry tub on multi week trips. When you have access to a launder-mat just grab the Rux and go.
Evertime I open one of your videos, I discover ways to spend my money for things I (don't) need. Thanks 😂
Oh but you might def need this hahaha also watch the video I released yesterday. This thing has a tote they sent me that is sickkk
Just empty every pocket, lol. Pulled the trigger on the bundle. Just what I was looking for next to my fridge in the 2013 2 door jk rubicon. Woop woop. Thanks bruh
I like it a lot! I was surprised lol
Nice piece of kit!
Great review. I was literally shopping front runner to change to a flat "box" from my duffle I use for cloths now. Can't get past that price point though ouch! Buy once Cry once I guess. Awesome is sometimes expensive!
Yeaaaah. Pricey lol. But tons of features
Looks great!
Would be great for groceries when camping. Breaks down when not in use.😎👍
Absolutely! My wife wants one for that exact reason
Nice, I have one, the green color as my bin for all my sleeping items in my Jeep - heated blanket, heated bedding, wool blankets, and Klymit camp pillows. Good product. One thing I'm struggling with is the shoulder/backpack straps. They interfere with the lid. I am ditching those for now and using Rux as a tote. Maybe, a user error as well.
Really? Oh maybe you have them going OVER the lid? I put them on the sides. Like one strap on one side and the other one on the other side. This way it won't interfere
@@BaptismOverland I'll give this a try. Thank you for the tip.
That thing is bad ass! Exactly what I need. Unfortunately I just spent a butt load of money on a Jetboil set up. Baby steps 😂
Hahaha
@@BaptismOverland BTW do you happen to know the overall dimensions of the Rux in the expanded form?
@@JeepTJay6 you know I never even checked. I can check for you tomorrow! But peep their site. I'm sure they put it on there
Would love to order one but website is totally unstable
Is it?! I'll bring it up to them asap.
What does this do that a duffel bag doesn't? Besides being "propped up"?
Same answer as "what the difference between a cargo box and a duffel?" That's for you to answer and your preferences. There are things you can store in here that might be more rigid that you might not want to put in a duffel.
You answered your own question. It is semi-rigid which is very convenient when you are packing it. Otherwise a bombproof TPU duffel like North Face Basecamp or Patagonia Black Hole duffel would do great. But a box-like storage structure that stays structured for loading and rummaging is huge convenience when loading certain types of gear. The difference between a high quality collapsing tote like a Patagonia Black Hole tote and one that is semi-rigid and structured like a Yeti Camino tote is HUGE. Just ask the staff at Trader Joe’s when their face lights up with delight they are packing your groceries into a bag (the Yeti Camino) that stays open and doesn’t collapse on them. The fact that The North Face make the Basecamp GEAR BIN which I see as a direct competitor to the Rux 70L says volumes. If cost is a consideration, The North Face Basecamp Gear Bin is a worthy consideration for semi-rigid storage and transport. It is even nicer as it collapses but has a metal structure which folds.
@@BaptismOverland This doesn't have the structural benefits of a hard cargo box in terms of protection or weight bearing. Cant use it as a table, seat, or step stool. This is just a layer of tarpaulin fabric, I don't see why that would make it any better for rigid or fragile items.
I'll admit it's novel and looks cool, if it wasn't 3 times the cost of a decent duffel then it would be understandable. But functionally it's not doing much.
Cheers
@@badkid73 I should have said "what does it do to justify being 3x the cost of a decent duffel". It's a cool kit, the value's just not there.
I'll agree that a wide opening is nice. Personally for $300 I'm getting a decent duffel *and* a decent hard case to mix and match as needed. Way more function in that setup.
Cheers.
Cost wasn’t mentioned in your initial reply. If you’re packing a lot of rectangular equipment, it is very useful. Someone packing away stacks of Snow Peak IGT 1/2 unit or single unit stainless steel tray containers for camping would love the fit and the slight “give” of the soft external structure. It fits a role although it is pricey. Some people need structure but don’t want the weight of a hard case, and they appreciate some flexibility in loading. It’s a great product and if successful, we will get cheaper copy cats. The North Face Base Camp Gear Box is one “copycat” which isn’t quite as burly but still is at a more reasonable price point.
You look like a Filipino ❤
Because I am!
$300 for a box?? For that kind of money it better be made/designed well!
It's def pricey. But so far I've been using it and it's taking a lot of abuse and holding up.
$298.00
I mentioned that. It ain't cheap lol
I mentioned that. It ain't cheap lol
Are you nuts, I'm not paying $298 for this crap that has to small of handles. No thank you.
Understandable. There's def cheaper options out there.
