Hi Mark..I enjoy watching all the equipment videos (and the others as well) because I like to play with mechanical stuff. Its great that Jess is so interested and good at helping around the farm whether it's helping you witg the equipment, Sandi with the sheep or driving any of the equipment around. She's a real pro! She msy be giving you a run for your money someday! LOL. I'm glad she's not camera shy because I think that (along with Sandi) she's showing other young ladies that women can do work like this. It's nice to have a couple of ladies to look up to. Farming is hard work and I think very underappreciated. Thanks again for all the great vids...stay safe!
I really injoy your videos. I love to watch fathers and daughters working together. Sandi mentioned that you got into a patch of poison ivy. I am so sorry. It is the reason I moved out of Ontario. Seven years of constant itch and pain.
Mark - Great video. You did a super job of explaining everything, and I found it very interesting. I do wonder how many eyes began to glaze over for those who had trouble understanding what you were attempting. You made it easy to understand for us who are able to work with our hands. Blessings to you and Sandi, and to your family.
My husband is fluent in tractor equipment. Me, not so much. So dumb down farming for me. Talk a lot like Sandi and go step by step so I can impress my husband.
I get the "Working Words" term, as a sailor....we kinda set the standard there. Kudos on raising a lady with good moral character. Few and far between.
I'm so sorry for your pain with poison ivy. I know you're miserable. I had a horrible experience with it myself. I was on a riding mower cutting down some brush. I didn't know it would kick it in the air so I breathed it all the time I worked out there. I got it internally causing my face to swell and pulled at the bottom of my shorts so got it in undesirable places. What a lesson to learn. I hope you feel better soon.
It just shows you when you have the proper help you can get things done, Way too go Jess!! Hopefully dad was watching so he can do it right the next time. 😁 God bless you and your family.
Morning Mark and Jess 😂😂 love seeing Jess work with Dad ! She is such a good daughter ! Your so knowledgeable about everything and you explain things very well ! Should be a teacher 😂 never board ! Truly its not boaring at all its interesting for sure !
Like the new spreader with soil testing and GPS mapping this unit will help a bunch with soil nutrient balance for better crop yield. Thank You very much for the video. Take Care Be Safe.
Sorry to hear about your poison ivy situation. I recently heard Dawn dish detergent works well to relieve it because it breaks up the oils quite good. Same as it does for greasy pots and pans etc. Praying for your comfort and quick healing. Love your and Sandy's productions.
Just saw Sandi’s video. Said you are suffering from severe poison ivy. I’m so sorry you are in pain. Hopefully you contacted your doctor and they called in some steroids for you and you can dry up the lesions. Just a thought for the future, if you feel you got into some poison ivy or such, when you are done or as soon as you recognize you’ve been exposed, cover your exposed skin in Dawn dishwashing liquid(hopefully you have that in Canada). Dawn cuts the oils from the plant. By cutting the oils your exposure time is dramatically reduced. Leave it on for 2-5 minutes and then shower it off in warm but not hot water. You will get very little to no rash from the poison. I know this works. My fair skinned redhead son gets it so bad we would have to take him to hospital for treatment. After 3 trips to the hospital, I did research into how the plant transmits the poison. It’s the oils from the leaves , stems and roots. Dawn cuts grease (see any commercial about it). We now keep Dawn in the mud room, garage and every shower. He has never had to go back to the hospital or to the doctor for treatment in the past 20 years. He is now 32. It really works. Hope you start feeling better soon. PS: wash all your tools and clothes too to get the oils off. You can reinfect yourself if you don’t. Works on dogs too who have been romping in the woods. Best wishes.
Hey Mark, Love seeing Jessica helping you. She is a real Dads Girl and/or just loves being around to help or loves the farm or both. This was a very interesting vlog, Enjoyed it.
So sorry to hear you got into a patch of poison ivy. I can relate. Don't let it go too long. I had to get medical help the last few times. Take care and I will be praying for you.
I like the fact, that you also use european equipment on your farm, like the Kverneland or the Horsch Joker, because these are high quality mashines and I am pretty sure you will have a lot of fun with them. Great VLOG and greetings from Austria :-)
Mark, to get an outer race of a bearing out, grab you mig welder and lay a few 12mm long runs on medium power around the inside following the old groove. it will shrink away and practically fall out. I use this technique all the time because it prevents damage to the housing so the replacement bearing will last properly when it is fitted. No chisel garks or out of round shapes from pounding.
Good video Mark & Jess. & I can see it in Jess she likes the tractor shop over the sheep barn pretty cool ! Yal be safe . Daniel from central Mississippi
HI Mark enjoyed this video !! and Sandi just told me about the poison ivy hope its over soon good it's not HOT try not to scratch !! when i was a young lad there was a old wise tail ,you were at the wrong place at the wrong time with your SWEETIE !!! THANKS PS< Mark you and Sandi got one great farm helper way to go JESS !
Awesome video. I appreciate learning. I have always enjoyed anything to do with machinery. As a girl I have had to learn myself. Dad didn’t believe girls should learn man stuff. I ultimately became a Commercial Driver Class A. Sadly lost my career to being hit by a Semi on the job.
Sorry to hear about that Marie. I've always wanted my daughter to believe she can do anything and love having her help out on the farm and in the shop.
Seems like Jess likes helping Dad more than messing with sheep. Never hurts to show girls around tools and machinery. There alot of times Dad is not around. I taught my daughter alot of those things
Hey Mark just left Sandi's channel and toward the end she said that you were miserable because you got into some poison ivy, I'm very sorry to hear about that. My husband had some about 2 months ago fortunately I had prednisone on hand and started him on it along with a antibiotic cream. I do hope you get to feeling better soon. Take care, best always Rusty
We call that a headland deflector here in Ireland the new high end spreaders have gone away that system to fully relying on drop position on the disc and speed of turning to control distance
Hallo Mark, greetings from germany. Didn‘t expect such a spreader in north america. I have the same one since 2010. they are very common in Europe, because liquid fertilizer is not much used. Just always clean the spreader after use and lubricate.
Sorry to hear that you got tangled up in the " VINE ". A good way to help with the itch and to sooth the skin is to take baths in oatmeal. Hope your feeling better fast.
Hallo Mark. This video is a great expedition of self fixing this machine. I have a similar new. I read from previous comments that you bought that spreader in a used condition. Do you remember for how many years you have been useing it before you fix the rust bearing? And do you remember how old was the spreader before you bought it?
Hey there! Poison ivy: dawn dish soap. When you've first been in it, but no rash yet, get in the shower with dish soap and SCRUB LIKE HECK. No such thing as too much soap or scrubbing. After rash has bloomed: still use the dish soap, but wash gently. My husband is HORRIBLY allergic to poison ivy/oak. We used to buy the expensive wash for him, but he'd still rash out. Saw a RUclips video on the dish soap thing, tried it, and the heavens opened up in a chorus of Hallelujah!
Oh nice, Kverneland equipment! I grew up not far from their headquarters here in Norway. One of my closest friends works with testing there. Quite the impressive factory and operation they have.
good project, the hydraulic spreaders are nice because each disc speed is independently adjusted so for border spreading the one side slows down and wont throw the fert as far making the vanes which come down redundant.
Really enjoyed this video. Looking forward to seeing how it works. FYI, really good trick for loosening corroded parts, soak it in Pepsi cola. Has to be Pepsi not just cola. Don’t know why but it works. Bob in Pennsylvania
Hi Mark when you were talking about getting the bearing out I was sitting here asking you if liquid wrench or WD 40 would work, then after you heated it up and said that a little liquid wrench helped, I said see I'm listening and learning. I had you figured for a person who took care of their equipment and I was right. I always felt if you take the the to take care of your equipment that it will pay off in the long run. I liked your term "working words", I just say my English improves to French I just get some of my letters mixed up??? Lol. That fertilizer really meant to test your patients, glad you Jess there to help. It will be interesting to see how it works and hopefully no more bent arms or vent malfunctions. So until next time take care and be safe, best always Rusty
Hey Mark just a thought there is a spray can product called rocker guard, great at protecting vehicle rocker panels from the elements. Also being a millwright and machinist seens you could get a sealed bearing from a bearing supplier that has seals on both sides. And cheaper than the OEM supplier.
Hi Mark, Hubert echos my thoughts on cleaning after use although I suspect you already know that. Don't teach Jess too many work words. She seems to be a fine young helper. Cheers
Where does he get all these toys?? LOL Great video, your knowledge of how things work is remarkable 👍 Jess really likes working with you over Sandi. Maybe not as stinky💩 haha. Can't wait to see it in use. Although it seems rather small compared to the old unit.
Hey Mark, Greetings from Baltimore, Maryland USA. Hope your doing ok with the poison Ivy? I myself am so allergic that I end up on a respirator in the hospital. I hope you feel better soon. Love the videos and cannot wait for more!
😂My husband was yelling, you never admit you do not know how to fix something ... you ARE to look it up on RUclips🤣😂🤣 With RUclips: Jess knew how to fix the camera focus issue😎😉
Good job! While the hopper was off, I'd have painted the bad areas on the red with red paint. I think that would have prevented rust. I'm impressed by your knowledge of how the spreader works. I don't know how you fixed the blades that were too far down and hitting the other part. Maybe it was just a lift up?
@MarkBrock.... Sandi said you were miserable with poison ivy. I feel for you, it's awful! My ex-husband & son both get severe poison ivy almost every year. They just have to be downwind of it & they catch it. They always have to get steroid shots before it'll even start to dry up. Over the years we've tried everything & nothing else has worked for them. But considering how risky it is to go to the doctor right now Sandi's vet might even be willing to do it. Or give her the stuff & she can give you the shot. Of course I know that vets aren't supposed to do that but our lives aren't how they're supposed to be either. But however you get it, you really need a steroid shot & you'll start feeling much better.
Mark, take good care of you. Poison Ivy is so miserable and it can get infected....maybe Sandi will have to give you a shot of sheep medicine😋. Your fertilizer vlog was really interesting! It looks like such a “ simple” thing when in actuality it is very complex. Is it bound to get rusted even if you washed it after every application? Maybe it is like the poison ivy, fertilizer touches it and it rusts. Take care and I hope you quit itching soon.
Sorry to hear you are suffering from poison ivy. Hopefully you have oatmeal for an oatmeal bath or baking soda for gauze pads. Calimine lotion also works for us. Hope you feel better soon
Thanks Mark lmao Sandi let it out of the bad I hope your poison ivy isn't kicking your butt !! Stay safe and away from poison ivy Mark Daniel from central Mississippi
If you have a wire welder, weld a small bead on the inside of the outer race. It will cause it to shrink and fall out. The housing,. it it is in, usually doesn't get as hot as with a torch.
If you have a outside bearing stuck in a hole just weld an bead on the inside of the outer shell (don't weld it to the holder) the ring will shrink and drops right out without damage.
Mark, I can see the day in the future where you will be able to pre-fly your drone over the farm to inspect and identify those areas that need different levels of fertilizer. Input that geo data into your spreader control system and then using GPS positioning on the tractor have an automated system of application. Just saying!
Haha poison ivy sucks, I learned a trick to get ride of it you just have to scratch it open and pour aftershave on it. Hurts like hell but works for me you will smell good to. Not recommended for tender areas lol.
This may be a ridiculous question but one of the things i've been told multiple times is that food isn't as nutritious today as it was 100 years ago b/c of soil being so leeched over the years. I had no idea farmers did all this prep work before planting! So does this all mean that i've been listening to a kind of "urban myth" about the soil??
It's and urban myth from the scientific papers I read about plant nutrition. If anything, I believe there's been a greater focus on balancing plant nutrition and use of micro nutrients to produce healthy plants. I'd say if the plants are healthy, then they're likely nutritious.
Awesome, thanks. They spread chicken and turkey here, but not as much as they used too, because of something to do with runoffs (officially), but I think it was more to do with too many housing developments around the fields. They also spread hog manure more often when we had the hog farms, but when those shut down, they had to find other means. I know Alan's, now Del Monte, use their waste product from their fields to re-fertilize them after picking. Talk about stink, makes hog manure smell like ambrosia lol. Hope the poison ivy gets better. No fun at all. I used to get it on my face, OUCH!
Hey Mark, why don’t you Contact your Primary Dr. and get 5-day (5-4-3-2-1) pack of Prednisolone. It takes the Itch away within a few hours and starts drying up the rash from the inside. There is NO need to Suffer through the Agony. You won’t Regret getting the Medication.
Just heard about your poison ivy. Feeling so bad for you. Prednizoline takes the itch away, oatmeal baths and calamine lotion. Hope you are feeling better soon😷
Hi Mark. You should order the bearings with two RS (round sealings) If not availible you should order the sealings with with 2Z (covered bearings) The open bearings tend to lose the oil and then they wear out
What a terrific young woman. You are lucky to have her and she is lucky to have you for a father.
Hi Mark..I enjoy watching all the equipment videos (and the others as well) because I like to play with mechanical stuff. You won't go far wrong with Kverneland kit Mark, great reputation over here and never hear a bad word spoken.
I really injoy your videos. I love to watch fathers and daughters working together. Sandi mentioned that you got into a patch of poison ivy. I am so sorry. It is the reason I moved out of Ontario. Seven years of constant itch and pain.
where isn't there poison ivy?
Thanks Lori, and now I'll have to keep a sharper eye to for the dreaded stuff.
Mr Mark your videos just keep getting better. Thanks Larry
Like it!!!! Always learn New Words with Mark!! Working Words!- I'll have to remember that one!!! Great Daddy Daughter working together!!
Your ability to FIX things is fabulous. I'm in awe!
Thanks, it seems like something you just learn as to grow up farming.
Amazes me how much information one person can retain in their brain!
Got to like a man to whom is happy to have a fertilizer spreader😁
Hello Mark sorry to hear about you walking into the poison ivy. Stay safe and healthy

Looking forward to seeing you back in the field. I hope you are fast getting over the poison ivy torture.
Yep, happy to be in the field soon and hopefully not itching too much by then.
Morning Mark and Jess 😂😂 love seeing Jess work with Dad ! She is such a good daughter ! Your so knowledgeable about everything and you explain things very well ! Should be a teacher 😂 never board ! Truly its not boaring at all its interesting for sure !

So sorry to hear you got into a patch of poison ivy. I can relate. Don't let it go too long. I had to get medical help the last few times. Take care and I will be praying for you.
Thanks, so far it doesn't seem to be getting worse
I like the fact, that you also use european equipment on your farm, like the Kverneland or the Horsch Joker, because these are high quality mashines and I am pretty sure you will have a lot of fun with them.
Great VLOG and greetings from Austria :-)
Thanks Peter, I've always been intrigued with European equipment and wonder way there's not more here in Canada.

He did successfully use heat.
This gentleman just saved me a lot of typing. That's the method I use and it works. By the way thanks for the videos always enjoy
Thanks Don, I'll try that the next time I have a battle royal with a bearing.
I tried to explain this in half the words, and don't know the right words in English. Read comments first type later😂
Good video Mark & Jess. & I can see it in Jess she likes the tractor shop over the sheep barn pretty cool ! Yal be safe . Daniel from central Mississippi
Thanks Daniel, hope things are well in central Mississippi
Dang she's pretty handy to have around. Happy planting andhave a great day. Hope you get to use it soon.
Yep, fun to work with as well.
Loved the video, Mark! Hi, Jess!!! Hope you're feeling better VERY soon from your poison ivy!
Thanks Cathy

Hope you recover from the poison oak soon Mark. Have a blessed day.
Thanks Mary
Awesome video. I appreciate learning. I have always enjoyed anything to do with machinery. As a girl I have had to learn myself. Dad didn’t believe girls should learn man stuff. I ultimately became a Commercial Driver Class A. Sadly lost my career to being hit by a Semi on the job.
Sorry to hear about that Marie. I've always wanted my daughter to believe she can do anything and love having her help out on the farm and in the shop.
Great video Mark and Jess
Thanks Kevin
Thanks for explaining how stuff works
No problem, enjoy doing so.
Seems like Jess likes helping Dad more than messing with sheep. Never hurts to show girls around tools and machinery. There alot of times Dad is not around. I taught my daughter alot of those things
Good job Jess did you have fun with Dad today did you learn alot?dad knows how to fix things
Hopefully she did lol.

Mark , try Deep Creek spray can on rusted parts , it works , good luck , Bob
Thanks Bob, got some penetrating oil that I used.
Warm weather is close
Looking forward to seeing field work getting started.
Good job Jess.
Planting is just around the corner, just need some warmer weather.

Yes, it got as I wasn't looking for it as a large vine and got it's revenge after I used the chainsaw on it.

Thanks, had to remove the field edge divider and have to bend it back properly or get new arms. We sometimes use "french" let you mention lol.
Such a great video!
Keep up with the vlogs

Yes, I was quite surprised that it wasn't a sealed bearing. Might do some research to find a better solution.
Jess is so cool!
Yep she's fun to work with
@@MarkBrock Don't you have two daughters and one son? Where are they now? What are they up to?
@@MarkBrock Use zinc oxide powder on your poison ivy.
Hi Mark, Hubert echos my thoughts on cleaning after use although I suspect you already know that. Don't teach Jess too many work words. She seems to be a fine young helper. Cheers
Yes, and she is a fine young helper.

I'm getting a little more sensitive to poison ivy but think I'll be ok, just itchy. Thanks for sharing.
So sorry to hear of your brush with poison ivy and the discomfort that follows, hope you are comfortable soon,.
Thanks John

I don't know how you fixed the blades that were too far down and hitting the other part. Maybe it was just a lift up?
Yes it lifted up out of the way but I ended up removing those part so it can be properly fixed.
Mark can you install sealed bearings in that spreader? Or is that what you got?
That's what I got, going to keep it full of grease and see if I can come up with a sealed bearing in the future.
Lol, working words. So appropriate. I use working words on my rinky dink farm as well.
Just put a weld around the inside and the outer ring will shrink and be easy to get out
I'll have to try the next time I struggle with a bearing.
Rhuli-gel works better than calamine lotion for poison ivy. It is cooling and dries without being cakey.
Thanks for the info, appreciate it
@MarkBrock.... Sandi said you were miserable with poison ivy. I feel for you, it's awful! My ex-husband & son both get severe poison ivy almost every year. Thanks for the info, I'll try it next time I have bearing issues.
Sorry to hear about the poison ivy!
If you have a outside bearing stuck in a hole just weld an bead on the inside of the outer shell (don't weld it to the holder) the ring will shrink and drops right out without damage.
Mark , sorry about the news , Poison Ivy , I sent Sandi a note , look at my comments , the doctor phone call can help you for sure ! Stay safe , Bob
Thanks Bob.
Mark, I can see the day in the future where you will be able to pre-fly your drone over the farm to inspect and identify those areas that need different levels of fertilizer. Input that geo data into your spreader control system and then using GPS positioning on the tractor have an automated system of application. Just saying!
Yes, please!
Yes, and I don't think those days are too far way.
Haha poison ivy sucks, I learned a trick to get ride of it you just have to scratch it open and pour aftershave on it. Hurts like hell but works for me you will smell good to. Not recommended for tender areas lol.
Seams to me Jess kind of likes working with dad. That mother daughter thing you know
Yep, think she likes the equipment and crops
Just heard about your poison ivy incident on Sandi channel. Hope you're feeling better soon
Thanks
This may be a ridiculous question but one of the things i've been told multiple times is that food isn't as nutritious today as it was 100 years ago b/c of soil being so leeched over the years. I had no idea farmers did all this prep work before planting! So does this all mean that i've been listening to a kind of "urban myth" about the soil??
It's and urban myth from the scientific papers I read about plant nutrition. If anything, I believe there's been a greater focus on balancing plant nutrition and use of micro nutrients to produce healthy plants. I'd say if the plants are healthy, then they're likely nutritious.
Do you mix the chicken manure with the sheep, or do you do them in different fields?
Due to the difference in nutrient content we spread them separate and on different fields.
We all need haircuts , Jess can do your haircut 😀👍🏾😀👍🏾😀👍🏾
LOL, not sure I'd trust Jess to cut my hair
Would a rubberized paint like flex seal help stop some of the corrosion spots
Thanks for the idea Homey
Is the spreader controlled using prescription maps/Ag Leader? Do you use RTK guidance?(Never mind, just re-watched VLOG 1.)
Yes and Yes 😉
for some reason i think jess likes working with dad than working with mum lol
Working words. That is funny 😂 I will tell my husband. 🤬
Fertilizer and bearings are like a husband and wife in quarantine for a month not a good combination 🤦♂️😂
LOL, true story
Hey Mark, why don’t you Contact your Primary Dr. and get 5-day (5-4-3-2-1) pack of Prednisolone. It takes the Itch away within a few hours and starts drying up the rash from the inside. There is NO need to Suffer through the Agony. You won’t Regret getting the Medication.
Thanks Ken for the info

Mark , don’t scratch your poison ivy rash 🙋🏻♀️ , hope you feel better very soon !
Thanks!
Surely that bearing you are putting in should have seals on both sides?
Sadly no, I was thinking the same thing.
Hi Mark. You should order the bearings with two RS (round sealings)
If not availible you should order the sealings with with 2Z (covered bearings)
The open bearings tend to lose the oil and then they wear out
