Dear Prashant, You have done a great job here. Very well done. I would just like to amplify one point which comes through strongly from your video and from my own recent experience, which is that even after learning to identify genuine dials and other watch parts, it is still very common to find, when one has bought and received the watch, that it does not run properly. You showed examples of watches with genuine dials and externals yet whose movements were rusty and/or contained a obvious assortment of parts, or had other problems like the one with the oversized stem. The unfortunate truth is that buying watches with original dials does not seem to lessen the chance of ending up with something which needs a lot of work: work which in most countries is rather expensive. The reason I'm amplifying this point is simply because it is so easy for us to think we've won the battle when we can identify the originals. But sometimes we still end up with something totally unusable simply because the seller had not spent the few hundred Rupees it would have cost in India to service it.
Oh, and I would also like to warn potential buyers that on ebay, WYSIWYG doesn't alway apply, so that original watch you saw and bid on may be sent to you with some parts having been replaced after the seller took the photo, or even that you may receive a completely different watch with a fake dial. Both these have happened to me more than once. Please check the seller's reputation to lessen the chances of this happening!
Absolutely. It's very expensive to service even these simple movements outside India and you may end up getting an altogether different watch when you receive the package.
I just found this video as I have gotten a few HMT's recently. Great experience with the Indian sellers, very nice folks. Are you not making videos anymore? I would totally binge your channel 🎉
Hi Prashant, thanks a lot for this detailed video. Very helpful. Can you please advise if you know any point from where we can get a genuine HMT model? I am looking for Janatha model but in this time it is very difficult to get a genuine one
I live in the United States and its very hard to tell the fakes. This is a new watch brand for me so I have no idea but they are all pretty cool either way. I would love to find a legit HMT dealer or shop here in the US
Thank you for the guidance. You just saved me from buying a franken watch. I was wondering how come such beautiful never worked and now I know they are franken for sure. I think the best place to buy hmt watch would be from their official site. What I am looking for is when do they put out new stock? Any specific time? Kindly advise
Remember that the margin, even if they are only making a few dollars on each watch translates much better to someone on India. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The mass production happens, they make the money right away and they are not selling them. From my visit to India i realized that my $100 goes so much further in India than anywhere else I have traveled.
Sir I hv been watching all your videos. Recently I hv been planning to buy an HMT kohinoor blue sunburst watch from flipkart. Need your suggestions on it. Please help me.
Hi Mr Prashanth, Your videos on Mechanical watches are interesting I am newbie to mechanical watches.I have HMT maurya para shock which is . Can you please help with a video on how to wind it (as i am new to mechanical watches). Is the winding process same as HMT janata?
I have quite a few HMT watches, but these were all bought new when the factory was still operational. Pity to see that HMT still lives on, but only as Franken watches.
Thanks for the informative video. Desperately looking to buy a pilot watch and not able to find one at all. HMT site says out of stock and e-commerce nothing. Wish collectors group provide some assistance on buying atleast one watch given they may have collected so many (duplicates also). Had so many childhood memories sith pilot and by the time i could afford it. Its has become a thing of past😟
Please tell that if we order from eBay then it will be shipped from outside India right? Then what will be the customs and duties on a watch. Have you tried buying from eBay?
@@HMTWatchCollector I ended up buying two watches off the site, thank you. But I notice they have limited collections at this point, can you recommend any other online forums? I was looking for Pilots/Janata models for the most part.
That's the best and most authentic and affordable source. Problem is that they ship only within India and therefore people outside India end up buying mostly from eBay.

Prashaant Pandey, thank you for taking the time to put this video together. Lots of valuable information and a good insight into HMT watch collecting.
Thank you for appreciating my efforts

Very Informative video, one question though - does HMT still sell Janata watches?
I have just realised that the Vijay watch in your video is the one that I actually bought this week. Such a coincidence :)
For 17$. I’m happy as long as it works

Sir i am new in watch collection... In hmt website no popular watches are avelable except vivek yd should I go for it please suggest.
Hi Prashant thanks for suggestions..i hv got my father's watch restored..can you suggest best available option to buy from HMT site
I would like to suggest skeleton automatic watches in mechanical watches you can pick anything you like.
Were any ever made with the arrow on the dial? Or were they ever only on the backcase?
What the heck kind of rabbit hole have I dug myself into
Extremely useful. Thanks.
But you have to admit that some of those dials are just beautiful!
Very informative. Thank you.

It becomes available on the HMT website every few weeks so keep an eye out.
Thank you for the information and hopefully the community of collectors will grow in coming days.

If the seller location is also in India then ebay will not allow you to purchase.
@@HMTWatchCollector what If seller is from outside...then what about the customs duties. How much will they be?
@@Babluprasadyadav-z6d i don't know the exact custom duty.
I think I have 2 real and one definitely franken, not too bothered for the price I paid, all nice watches
I'm so disappointed to hear that HMT didn't make watches with Arabic numerals - it was precisely those watches which interested me in the brand.
Sir BPL Ki watch hoti hai chaviwali

Ojalá la empresa HMT vendiera relojes originales a todo el mundo, pero no quieren hacer ventas ni envíos fuera de la India.
Thankyou
These franken watches are degrading the name and quality of hmt watches in the international market.
And this video is helping people to acquire the necessary knowledge to uphold that name!
