Even though he’s leaving, Angel Hernandez is still winning. He’s getting a hefty, hefty severance package to walk away from a job that pays him $300K annually regardless of his performance quality. And that’s not even mentioning his pension. He and his family are set. He failed upwards.

And didn't the umpire's union come out and say at some point in the last couple years that his OVERALL accuracy is middle of the pack or at least acceptable as an MLB umpire? I know that is something tracked behind the scenes that fans can't see. Nice guy or not, Overall accuracy or not, when he blows calls they are pretty horrible.
I feel like Angel Hernandez has become a bit of an urban myth at this point. I think people have said Angel is the worst Ump ever so much it's become believed almost universally. Every cock up he ever made is scrutinized more than any other bad Ump call simply because his name is attached. Not to say he didn't have some absolute shockers he obviously did but there's probably about 20% of the Umps in baseball as bad or worse who are loving that angel is gone to take the heat off them. I hope the media and fans remember across all the calls Angel isn't bottom of the barrell and just because he's gone doesn't mean they should suddenly take the heat off.
How many jobs have no performance evaluation? If umpires are not evaluated they should be and if bad send them down to the minors and work their way back.
