Outstanding! I love my Iron Rangers. Sure there’s a lot of “mass produced” about them, but if we stop turning our noses up, they are iconic and pretty well made. Yours are a great upgrade on a good chassis in auto speak!

Nothing wrong with the factory version. They are lighter weight than some of these hefty logger resoles.

I love my Iron Rangers, they fit my foot really well right from the beginning, not much of a breakin period. With that said, the sole is pretty hard, not my best walking boot. Eventually when I resole, i will put a leather midsole, maybe some poron or cork as a filler and a commando lug sole. Overall it is a great boot and made it into my weekly rotation of boots, so it is used regularly.

It’s nice income for the cobblers but the standard IR rough and tough is good enough to last a long time. Some like the upgrades. It’s special, but I love the originals.

These are way more badass than the original 🤩🤯 I still don’t like the blah shaft (it leans…and no booty haha), but I would totally rock a pair of these the way your friend changed them! Killer 🍻

Iron Rangers, like many here, we’re my first heritage boot. Even though I now own several other brands that are twice the price, I still have them in the rotation.

I have the RW iron ranger in copper rough and tough. The only issue I have had is with the break behind the toe cap. It broke sort of diagonally front to back from the big toe back toward the pinky toe. If I could go back in time I would have forced a break straight across behind the toe cap. I’m not sure why that happens other than the way the boot fits, my foot shape, and way my toes flex.

Dale, will you be able to give an accurate assessment of a Red Wing Iron Ranger in comparison to other boots, with a pair of Iron Rangers that have over $500 worth of upgrades? What will you compare the leather, laces, eyelets/hooks?

  • @user-hd8ej8yx9p

$1000 boot upgrade?? Did you see the heel to sole connection? Glue remnants 😂😂

  • @JaeSpec1

That straight heel shaft does curve inward after a few wears since the leather is so supple.

I have IR in black and they feel flimsy compared to Grant Stone. I still like them because I did not pay full price but for $350 that they cost I'd buy another pair of GS.

as you said yourself, this IR is totally pimped out and many of us don't have access to soemthing like this. Wouldn't it have been more useful to review a stock, off the shelf iron ranger?

I was interested in buying a pair of those copper rough and tough boots. So, I went to their website and my size was sold out. Like usual. Anyways, they had the same iron ranger in amber harness. Is it the same but just different in color? Or are they built differently altogether?

    • @DalesLeatherworks

These aren't "real" iron rangers they've been significantly upgraded with that midsole and leather stack heel. The stock IR is a big downgrade in comparison to your other boots.

Probably smith’s leather balm on these but it will darken them considerably

Ventian shoe cream, bicks 4, or the redwing brand. They didn't darken the boot after they dried, just don't use too much.
