This video explains how to calculate gear ratios for compound gear trains and gearboxes.
Having found the gear ratio, we can calculate the ideal and actual output torques and hence, we can determine the holding torque required to secure the gearbox, preventing the housing from rotating.

That was brilliant! I put the simple question into YT and out this vid popped. I knew nothing a few minutes ago and now I totally get it. Thank you very much. 🙂👍🏴
Great for explaining torque in and out thanks a lot!
Very well explained... you made this easy to follow and understand...
Excellent video. Thank you!
You are a very good teacher.. Thank you so much ❤
Thanks a lot. Really helpful
Thanks, very helpful.
Thank you, well explained....
At a glance, ~8:15 ..., balancing torque magnitude should be 1595.3 + 65 (in this case). The reflected output torque is opposite the direction of rotation.
Great video!! Question: how would I go about calculating the output speed and direction of the compound gear?
Superb! Thanks.
Which among these are idler gear?? How do you identify the idler gear??
The efficiency should be applied to each gear mating ? So 0.9*0.9*0.9= 0.72 is the equivalent efficiency ratio no ?
