Well… as a mom of two children-4 and 7 let me tell you something about minimalism and family life: it gets even better!!! Kids don’t really need that much. They want our time, attention and it’s amazing how creative they become. I see other kids overwhelmed and bored with tons of toys… it doesn’t speak to me!

I cannot agree more. Kids don't really need that much. It's the industry and the market that make us believe that. What kids need is present parents, time to explore, and lots of love. I love seeing you so happy. Love from an argentine mother of 3 little minimalists.
For the first three years she won't notice whether she is sleeping in a box or a golden crib. Then playing with sand, water and ordinary kitchen stuff will make her quite happy until she goes to school...
Make sure you choose what you really need, and no more. Thinking back, baby proofing looks an awful lot like minimalism. My son arrived before we were ready, before my family could shower us with gifts. This was a very good thing. We went out and bought what we needed as we needed it. Much better way of doing it.

Congratulations! We survived having a baby not owning a stroller and a crib. We carried our child everywhere until she learned how to walk. She's less of a complainer cause she never experienced the convenience of the stroller. She's almost 9 now and loves to walk and run. ☺️

A baby only NEEDS love, warmth, food, and fresh diapers, all the other things are completely negotiable! My kids are now 18 and 19. I think you're in a great mindset to not go overbroad! You've got this! 💞
Having a baby last year made me want to become a minimalist. It’s so easy to accumulate stuff and clothes that you don’t need. I felt more overwhelmed with a baby plus having to clean and tidy “stuff” so getting rid of it helped with my anxiety
Babies have personalities that stick with them for life! Mine are 26, 21 and 19 and they are EXACTLY the same as they were when they were babies. I bet she’ll be chill as she grows.

Soooo true LOL. My 33 year old was very chill while my 26 year old was full of energy. That has remained the same to this day.

I agree and mine are 22, 30 and 34. And my high needs not good sleepers were the ones in GT and honors classes. They also have in born neat or messy genes.

I am 21 years ahead of your journey and we managed excellently with minimalism and three daughters. This morning my eldest did a presentation at Uni- in my Blazer that I had bought when I was her age (21y.)...she got many compliments and that just shows you that thriftiness goes a long, happy way .
Congratulations! She is precious! Your poor wife with all of that heartburn to give your daughter her full head of hair. Enjoy every minute of this and PLEASE make sure to get plenty of photos of your daughter and wife together, so many moms don't have enough photos with their babies. We just had our third 8 weeks ago, every baby is different for what they need, but for us, having a swing was a huge help with each child. Before you know it she'll be walking around. Day in the life videos would be awesome!

Share your real life. I can’t speak for others but I think one of the things that we all love about you is your authenticity. I really enjoy listening to your podcast as well. You are correct your life will be so much simpler because you are prepared for this and have more time. Stress comes when you’re having to both work, juggle daycare, handle a baby when it’s sick and you both have to work. The hard work you’ve put in is going to pay off 100 fold. And don’t get too caught up in people telling you that babies are expensive. They don’t get expensive until they’re teenagers. That too can be tempered. I say this as a mom of four in their 20s.

I'm so happy for your new family! Thank you for sharing her with us! ...As far as minimalism and children, I realized after my first child that I was marketed A LOT of stuff that we didn't need...diaper genie, baby bath tube, this kind of stroller, that kind of stroller, pack and play, swing, bouncy seat... you get the picture. So, for my second child I didn't worry about as much "stuff" and we survived.

Quite frankly, minimalism is the best you can do for a child. Mine feel so much better since we decluttered. It IS a lot harder to block things from coming in, but they play better, you spend higher quality time as a family, and you have more time together because you're not so busy managing your and their stuff.
Fatherhood is incredibly beautiful on you.

Congratulations! She's beautiful and I'm happy that you have the time to enjoy this time with her. My FIL always said that once you have kids, time flies faster than it ever has and he was soooo right. Mine are 21 and 17 now and I swear they were just born a few years ago.
I have a friend who is a minimalist and she has two children and homeschool. They both continue to practice their minimalist ways.

I think the concept of aparigraha, aka minimalism, will still endure since the principal is so well established in your lives already. However, the flow rate of incoming and outgoing things will increase. This happens with any new adventure, as you learn what is needed and what is not. Kids, as they are always growing and exploring new interests, hobbies and sports on their journey to discover who they are will speed that up. No worries, you parents have great practice in "keeping the decks clear". Congratulations to you and welcome baby Laura!
