After listening to toumei girl this is like the complete opposite, while toumei girl is graceful, sweet, and very feminine, toumei boy is roguish, bold, and straight to the point while in toumei girl you have to sort of put together what’s going on. I like both of the songs and the story that’s going on. I think it’s different perspectives of the same love story. The girl/toumei girl is shy and doesn’t quite know how to show her feelings plus she feels like her crush doesn’t see her as someone he could be in love with hence why she’s “invisible”. By the end of the song she expresses her feelings to her crush and confesses. In toumei boy, he has a hard time confronting his feelings and shows attachment to the girl and a liking to her like keeping pens borrowed from her and thinking of her and the times they spent together but he doesn’t say his feelings and is more stubborn and blunt about it while toumei girl is more open like she’s writing in her diary. That part in toumei boy that’s like “I’m going to drink a thousand needles” (not the direct quote but ykwim) it’s like him feeling flustered in a way and then feeing embarrassed and wanting to “drink a thousand needles”. He feels “invisible” because he doesn’t know if she even likes him. Also I don’t even know if these songs are supposed to be connected or are abt completely different things I just wanted to do this lol. I just saw the title and wanted to connect them in a way. But I like how it’s rly realistic to an actual love story bc some movies portray them in such unrealistic ways
I think this song, it's far from a love story, is more like the lost of a close friend from school, like: The guy or girl who always lunch with you and spend the free time at school together. And suddenly one day he/she just disappears from the classroom and you don't even know if she/he is okay or if he/she move to another town because his parents work or something like that. One day just realizes that, you really love that friend, you really appreciated and you know it because it's not there anymore and you feel betrayed but you understand that it's not in your hands. When it says "I'm going to drink a thousand of needles" it's because you understand that when you says "good bye" "see you tomorrow" "see you later" like saying "sorry" doesn't mean anything if the person is not aware what it will be happening in the future. I feel this song more like a complaint about reality and the thought life.
Actually about the "drinking a thousand needles" part. In Japanese culture, when a pinky promise is made, children often sing a song as they make the promise (sometimes youth and adults sing it or reference it too when making a promise). The song says that if someone lies (aka breaks the promise) then their punishment will be to drink a thousand needles. Not literally tho, it's just a saying (Like how in English we say "cross my heart and hope to die"). The song says "If 'see you later' is just a lie, then I'll drink a thousand needles." If the two people in the song promised to see each other again but then it doesn't happen, then they lied and the promise is broken. If the promise is broken, then they must "swallow a thousand needles" as punishment.
i dont think tomey boy is a love song. they are friends. and the "I" is boy, because using "boku", and his friend is a boy from the title "toumei boy" because he (the friend) disappear..
This song makes me happy and sad at same time. Trying to hold them back it’s so beautiful. I want this played and after my cremation ashes are scattered in Lake Motosu. It should be an anthem of Japan. It’s WAYYYY better in concert. I am so happy these babies are born. Thank their parents.
It seems like the song is about ``My best friend transferred to another school without telling him anything.'' But I also agree with your interpretation.

After reading the lyrics, is this song about suicide? Or just losing a friend.
Friendship
It seems like the song is about ``My best friend transferred to another school without telling him anything.''
But I also agree with your interpretation.
