Some nocturnal animals, like raccoons, are often out during the day. Not an indication of illness. However, this one? This one is in a bad way and he should've let it be.
@Mys Tery I'd burn the gloves or anything that had possible contact to avoid getting pets sick. I'm not sure of transmission of all diseases that may be possible here though, and medical help isn't the worst idea one could have
This is a common misconception concerning racoons, that if they are seem out in the daytime it automatically means it is infected with the Rabies virus. This is not true, and continuing to spread this false information leads to many innocent racoons, and other "nocturnal" animals, being needlessly killed. All animals have a place in our ecosystem, and the killing of any animal because of ignorance is not okay at all. Mother raccoons with baby kits come out during the day to forage and eat before staying in at night with their babies to protect them from the predators lurking at night such as the male raccoon. In the dark, it's harder to see, so it makes it harder to keep all their kits safe so they come out during the day, and when the kits begin to grow up, the mother will start bringing them outside in the daytime to teach them how to forage, fish, how to open river clams with rocks, and how to protect themselves from other animals that may want to hurt them. Young male racoons continue to stay in and out awake during the day, and sleep at night for a few years even after leaving the family consisting of grandmothers, daughters, and granddaughters, and the baby male racoons stay with their family for up to three years before setting off on their own. So when you hear an animal is nocturnal, take that as not a dead set rule for each individual of that species. Any nocturnal animals, who are physically able to be out during the day, can be seen out during the day without it automatically meaning that they are rabid, or sick. If they are rabid there will be signs and symptoms you couldn't attribute to any other illness. Also, another animal that gets a bad rsp for being put during the daytime is is opossum. They are generally considered nocturnal, though they can get be seen out in the daytime also. No opossum you see in the daytime will not have rabies because they have a natural immunity to the disease. So when you see one bare their eeth, and hiss at you when you find yourself in front of one taking the trash outside, don't worry that they have rabies. Also they eat ticks, and lots of them. They are also immune to many tick-borne diseases such as Lyme and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. So pass the information along to educate others on the wildlife we share the outdoors with, and even sometimes the indoors as well.

@7Metra I am laughing so hard at your comment, It's so funny to me that you would call a raccoon a beaver, and I do think that if the raccoon wasn't so sleepy you would have offended it 😂 I'm going to think about this for awhile and chuckle every time I think of it.
I have never seen a rabid raccoon but have seen a rabid skunk and a fox and the fox scared me really badly because it would run circles around our shed and they would run at our fence and then it would run circles around our drive way and then it would run at the fence again, and at one point it set down and looked like it was about to fall over like it was tired and then starting running in circles again. I was trying to contain our dogs so they would not get close to it we wound up having to put it down. We live in the country so we didn't have anybody to call to help us out. We also had at one time a raccoon that would eat the berries off the bushes in our driveway and walk around like it was drunk and we saw it quite often when the berries were abundant. I guess the berries were fermented or overripe or something because he sure ate a lot of them.
VICKY STEVENS, Yes, I've seen animals in the late stages of rabies and they walked in circles too. I've read that the head pain in the latter stages is incredible. You did the best thing for the animal. It is best to put them out of their misery bc sadly, they can't be cured at that point...they only suffer until they die.

Yeah, these people are idiots. Had a raccoon with distemper in the chicken coop. Dispatched humanely with a 20 gauge and then STRAIGHT in a burlap sack and into a bonfire. Not only can they kill you with disease, but your dogs will go dig up the corpse and eat it and die as well
No I am sure that raccoon die. You all need to know about rabies and different things animals get dogs can get them same thing cats and even bats and other animal what if a child handle that raccoon in stead of a man which obviously he don't know about such things and the child didn't mention it to you child get sick really fast even animals only last a few days with rabies wait general house animals shots to prevent them from getting those things while there are no shots set talk to your children about it so they know not around it and also to run and tell an adult so they could remove it safely and then they put a warning out there's right be in the area he said nobody else get it from the
I'm pretty sure that raccoon did not have rabies. Rabies don't make an animal look all sleepy and tired, rabies make a wild animal anxious and aggressive.

He's more messed up than the coon.
Someone needs to show this guy the "f around and find out" video
Or the common round worm they carry got to its brain. They act drunk when it first hits and usually are stumbling around more in daylight. I'm not saying that's what it is because I'm not there seeing what you see, but it's common and very possible. I've trapped hundreds.
My 17HMR would be putting him out of his misery right now.
That’s what happened after the video
@@redbirdlandandcattle that’s probably for the best. Although I am reading that some people say they eat fermented corn and grain and it makes them drunk. So I am wondering if he isn’t potentially just hammered. In which case I would happily let him sleep it off. I would need to see some sort of evidence for it though. Otherwise I would rather just put him out of his misery snd avoid him killing somebody’s pet.
17HMR breaking out the big guns I see.
Dispatched … on to another
Nah toss him in the drunk tank first if it doesn't sober up in a few hours then bring in the HMR
If you see a coon out during the day, then that coon ain't normal, and very possibly is rabid.
Michigan had an ordinance in my country if you see raccoon kill it. Rabies spread fast.

Hell, yes they do! Especially if they are rabbid.
Agree!! Their is a Rabies variant that racoons get. Some say it's worse. Hope he threw those gloves away! And washed coat with concentrated Lysol!!
Could be distemper, or he's been in there for a couple days and about done

He's sick. Most likely from rabies or distemper.
Кто вас ослов рожает😁
Be damn careful if you pick it up, especially if it would be rabid.
これが狸寝入りか😮
No it's actually probably close to death because of rabies raccoons are nocturnal or diurnal meaning they'd rather be in a tree sleeping during the day.
狸寝入り=sham sleep
Give that raccoon water and some food if he wakes up ,he has something to refreshed him.
You're not very bright, are you?! The raccoon is rabid. It needs to be put out of its misery.
Oh please don't leave that raccoon please Don't feed and water tell please call someone to come and get the raccoon tell them the raccoon is sick I guarantee you that raccoon is sick what if young children find the raccoon and want to handle it do you want that on your conscience I don't know that man that picked it up by the scruff of its neck the doctor might tell him he has to take treatment just in case because what if he touches something is going to eat puts his hand on his mouth or hie eye or has a scratch on his hand that he touch the raccoons and he catches the disease I'm not kidding they will give you treatments if you're in contact with rabies oh I'm getting upset because so many people don't seem to know what to do with a raccoon like that dangerous that is if it comes around I'm done just look it up touch that raccoon I pray you don't have to take treatment but you better let the doctor know you came in contact with one of your hands on it he could even call the hospital and ask him does he need to do anything about touching a sick
Raccoon on find out today sir a torch today before it is too late for treatment
that's a great way to know if one has rabies 💃🏻
that's what I would have done
We just had one in our front yard like that. When we approached him to check on him he started rolling and seizing. We sent him home if ya know what I mean. Poor thing was sick!
Did the right thing 💜
Or drunk assholes.....lol
That's Groot after he did drugs
That's sad, to see an animal in that situation. I had a cat that ended up getting rabies,he went under our house to die. It's sad😔
They don't have any idea if it has rabies. It looks more like poison to me.
Drunk on fermented corn, berries etc or distemper or even bird flu.
Out in Montana they had to put down a grizzly that had bird flu
How long ago on the griz
Just asking; you really think the grizzly had the bird flu ?
Yea definitely never touch a wounded or rabid animal it can go very badly for you.
Poor thing....hope he's doing well

He is like a ferret, he sleeps so deeply that you have to flop him around to wake him up
@7Metra I am laughing so hard at your comment, It's so funny to me that you would call a raccoon a beaver, and I do think that if the raccoon wasn't so sleepy you would have offended it 😂 I'm going to think about this for awhile and chuckle every time I think of it.
Poor baby. ❤ And you are so right, It would be terrible to touch him then have your own pets to come down with something.

He's been boozing it up ..got ahold of something fermented lol
Bro is on that fentanyl
He ate a poison apple from a witch he just needs a kiss sir

Rabid. You probably don’t want to be around him.
I'd put him in my mother inlawers car .with the snake that is about to fall on your head.
You don't, it would be more dangerous than anyone could imagine.
Did he end up being ok? I hope!
Yea he snapped out of it a few hours later. 🤦
Does this generation not ever heard of rabies that is really scary
