    I'm from Scotland and how you present an election is so damn sophisticated. And love how youse project votes

    • @martintheiss743
      @martintheiss743 5 лет назад +5

      the projections are easy. lets say there are 186 booths in your riding. if 30 have called in their preliminary votes the CBC would have confidential exit poll projections for the 156 remaining booths. When the declared results cause the adjusted exit poll projections to exceed a certain level of confidence of a hold the candidate is then listed as a projected winner. It mostly holds up in practice.

      I've watched him since the mid 80s when he became anchor of The National I believe. This was his last time to anchor an election also. He is very good professional anchor. I think Peter Jennings of ABC was offered Mansbridge's slot back when..... then I believe I could be wrong as it might be a rumor, but Jennings stayed where the real big money was in New York City.

    Thank you to the CBC for releasing the election day coverage in its entirety. I was watching that evening and it was a master class in Canadian politics and history. Also as an American (of considerable Canadian descent), it's nice to see a group of such respectful and well-informed pundits and panelists. What a remarkable (and sobering) contrast with the insane clown posse we're fostering down here.

      As an American I find it interesting to see how relatively short it takes for a steamroll election to be formally declared. Yes I am aware the percentage of eligible voters voting was large inclusive of the First Nation leader saying there was a major effort on their part to get people to voting booths. Aside of not having a minute by minute report of officially declared elected MP's I found the broadcast very informative and also respectful of those who enjoyed the rather long session of election activities.

    The change has already happened, like in Trudeau's victory speech "Sunny Ways" just a reference to what you can expect of Canada's new tone on the world stage, no longer will Canada be that one country holding up climate talks, no longer will Canada be promoting war in the middle east, Canada will go back to being Canada, peace loving, progressive and respectable. Trudeau even did a news conference today in Ottawa, he didn't pre screen the questions either and demand a certain limit like Harper used to do. Good riddance Harper, worst PM in Canadian history.

    2:14:00 This was so cringe that I simply can't express how bad it is. I have a hard time believing that those kids actually planned this because this stinks of a "hello fellow kids" decision that middle age out of touch people make.

      It's because they weren't livestreaming the election on RUclips in 2011. The entire livestream automatically gets uploaded when it finishes.

    I watched this and have to say 3 things, I find it slightly odd that a seat is called and then not with the numbers going up and down for parties! Secondly the fact it was said before the 170 that a party had won which is incorrect, it is only a projection and finally once it had hit 170 (or had it with the up and down going on) that no announcement was made to say the Liberals had REALLY won. It unfortunately made what could have been an exciting night very dull! Surely a result should only be called like in the UK once every vote in the constituency had been called! I know that they say its only projections but it all seems rather silly! Even the USA only calls a state (usually) when its really confident there is a winner

      Carl Thompson it's not a final result though. Elections Canada releases poll by poll results. The numbers represent elected and leading. It makes for more suspenseful coverage. The way the UK covers their election night is totally boring unless their exit poll ends up being wrong.
