I'd say that Dex is for people who don't care for upgrading their old computer and only need a computer for most basic tasks. So person may buy Galaxy S10, with cheap adaptor/USB hub, keyboard and moust and their TV. This will be cheaper and more effective than buying a phone and cheap laptop. Or, let's say - your PC died and you're out of money for now to replace parts. Android would do for most things. Also, a friend of mine has S10 and old crappy laptop. So... yeah. There are ways to do so.

I know that this is two years old, but when I bought my Galaxy S22 Ultra, DeX became an invaluable tool. Many people forget that Samsung specifically targeted the Note series (and by popular demand the S22 Ultra-Note) to those who are business orientated. That's why I splurged and purchased a $1300 phone.
I'm an independent regional operator. Many times I'm out on the road (not at home) and have to give presentations on the fly, and I mean that literally. There are times when I have to give presentations on analytics, logistics, overhead analysis, tax itemization, etc. to a CEO or board of executives on their private aircraft/jets (all of which have onboard "TV's" that are actually monitors with Type-C connections). With DeX, I can do just that. I can finalize my presentation as I'm heading to the airport on my phone using a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse (literally just on my phone), then I can hook my phone up to their "TV", and have a portable "computer" with all of my work on it done. There's no extra laptop, wifi, bouncing between calls, texts, emails, and calendars, it's just all on my one phone and is placed within my pocket. It streamlines so many processes. When I'm done with my presentations, they can literally write, e-sign, and verify the documentation on my phone, and even at times they'll just pay me there via NFC. Speaking of NFC, they can give me the keyless entry keys that I can store on my phone and use to get into wherever I need to go.
I've used DeX as my computer. I literally sold my laptop because DeX is so effective. Yes, if you prefer to just have another computer and aren't worried about streamlined processes, then DeX isn't anything special for you. But to anyone who's extremely reliant on technology with high-level businessmen/women, it's an unbelievably valuable tool. I'm so glad that Samsung didn't give up on it.

“Couldn’t replace anybody’s laptop”.... “If you have a monitor, you probably have a laptop and I don’t see the point of trying to replace with your phone”.... Man, honestly, you should try to perform a basic search when talking about topics... There are thousands of people across the world replacing their laptops with this concept, myself included... There are growing communities in forums and reddit talking about this, pushing this technology forward... The least you could do when you want to talk about a topic you know nothing about is either document yourself or not talking about it at all.
And for all the followers seeing this video and that never heard of DeX before, please, do not draw your final conclusiones based on this biased video, perform additional searches (I recommend MRP channel on RUclips, its all about DeX).
Hope this actually makes you rethink a little bit and better plan your next videos

I use DEX, but it's limited in the 8 series Samsung phones. Huge difference going to the 9. I was a Windows phone user, and really liked what HP was trying to do with Continuum, but the cost was prohibitive at the time. I just upgraded to a note 9, and received an HP elite 3 lapdock. I like the idea of only having to upgrade my phone to get an upgraded laptop. I have 2 DEX stations that I got super cheap to use in the den, and bedroom. I just plug my phone in, and use a Bluetooth keyboard with trackpad or mouse/trackball depending on what I'm doing. I love having everything in one device. It's basically the only reason I switched to the note series.

The problem is that ARM processors are RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) processors. Being that x86 and amd64 processors are all CISC (Complex Instruction Set Computers), your best bet would probably be trying to run a Linux version that runs on ARM, but that would be pointless, since Android is a Linux distro itself.

It may have been that you tried to install a normal version on windows 10 while running an arm based cpu, arm based cpus which are used in basically all mobile phones use different architectures and instruction sets compared to arm and intel, which may have been the reason for all the problems. Maybe for a second attempt try this using windows 10 arm edition. I had no problems doing this on my galaxy s10 with this method.

Hmm it's late 2021 right now and Dex is still going strong. With wireless support, 5G speeds, faster than ever chips and hardware, and an expanding list of PC cross platform app support such as Adobes editing apps and AAA games like Fortnite & COD mobile i feel like mobile computing is just getting started and once the tech reaches a certain threshold like the new arm processors or the M1 chips getting implemented into phones they'll replace the traditional PC or laptop for the casual user market. I guess only time will tell.

watching this in 2022. Samung Dex is still not forgotten and more amazing then ever. Sure Aside form a dekstop PC, I have my laptop which is my go to PC when I need to be on the go. But sometimes you just need to go even lighter. OR just didnt think youd need a laptop where you go. But you always have your phone.
Example from literally a few days ago. Went to my grandma who doesn't have and doesnt want to buy a PC. I was there just for coffee but she asked me for a recommendation for a vacuum and where she could buy it.
I connected my phone to her rather old TV (if anyone asks how; I usually carry around a small 3d printed case with afe handy adapters, USB Micro-C, C-HDMI etc)
We looked through way more offers online than she would have imagined are available, ordered it online, looked up a summary of an episode of a TV show she missed recently, Checked her online status for the availability of her 3rd vaccacine shot, checked on some news about local celebrities she was just very interested in, and looked at some pictures and videos from my cousin who is in Mexico on the big screen (something she wasnt able to do herself).
All that without any planning ahead. And we did it TOGETHER instead of just me tapping at my tiny phone while she waits for me to finish.

We use Dex on pair with work's desktops which strict security policies which won't allow for a variety of simple software and online services running properly, like Outlook or Adobe cloud services even Office 365..
Also works perfectly on vehicles with rear displays.. Or anywhere with a projector...
Dex even helped us to set up a PPV event backup once when signal was lost due to a tall truck cutting the Fibre at a small bar.. you should start widening your perspective..

Mouse grabbing doesn't work because it's not implemented neither on the DeX side nor remote-desktop app (i guess).
Win10 won't work through Limbo coz Limbo is a poor, castrated port of Linux's QEMU.
But, there's a project called "Linux on DeX", allowing you to run native ARM64 Ubuntu virtual machine trough DeX.
If you would have installed x86 libraries as well there, i think there would be also possibility to run Steam trough qemu-x86_64 (which allows you to run apps from other architectures, but the need is to have app's native set of libraries).

I use Dex all the time, I connect my phone to a 16 inch Portable Monitor and watch movies and play games. the great thing about dex is you dont have to use Mirror Mode. Mirror mode eats up battery life as you have to have your screen on to mirror. With Dex you do not, you can play your games or watch movies with your Phone screen off which keeps battery life great. I use it all the time as i have a bunch of gaming emulators and movie apps. So Dex makes it for a great way to play games and watch movies while not eating phone battery.

Kudos for even attempting Windows installs on an phone.
    Several corrections...
    * Continuum. It wasn't just the HP Elite 3 which did this. Several Windows Mobile devices have Continuum. 950, 950XL, and the Jade.
    * Continuum Dock. You don't need the HP Elite's dock. Microsoft had a dock for the 950 and 950XL. Further, most USB-C to HDMI adapters work. (And the HPs and Microsoft docks work with any each other and any laptops also)
    * There are many hubs which provide USB-C power delivery pass-through. You don't need the Samsung Dex dock in order to get power to your phone while using Dex.
The uses for Dex are fairly clear... especially for a Note device.
    1. File Management. Especially for a Note device which is taking meeting notes, marking up pages, etc. during meeting and on the go... it saves a lot of time to be able to connect to a PC and see the screens. Dragging files on and off. Managing notes, marked up web pages, large file libraries, large photo collections, music files, videos, etc.
    2. Projecting on a meeting. Running presentations, web sites, local apps, etc. on a board room TV, projector, or computer -- or someone's laptop or computer when sitting around. Saves carrying around a laptop for simple things. Remember you are also use Dex wirelessly.
    3. Quick projection on a home TV. If you have a smart TV, Roku, or other box... you can project wirelessly to the device. Perfectly fine for showing photos, videos, web pages, maps, etc.
    4. Running Android apps on Windows (or a TV). If you have a Windows PC and there is an app you want to run... emulation kind of sucks. Many Apps do not have Windows Store equivalents or they don't work well. Same with smart TVs (or set boxes) which don't have a specific app or any which don't support a keyboard/mouse.
    5. You have corporate web appplications you need to access on the go. Yes, you can bring a laptop with you, but... often a small keyboard and mouse is easier. Easy to plug into a hotel TV.
    6. You have a portable USB-C monitor. These now exist and are far less expensive than a laptop.
    7. You just hate syncing. If you deal with a lot of emails, text messages, and are out of the office a lot. If you have a lot of contracts. Sometimes it is better just having them all on one device rather than getting an email on your phone and rushing to a PC because if you send from your phone, those sent messages won't be on your PC.
    8. Android development or a PC.

Keep in mind that DeX can be a full blown desktop replacement for people who live on their phones. Most people just browse social media, shop on Amazon, and watch RUclips, Netflix, etc. Lots of people play mobile games now too and don't have flashy RGB gaming rigs. While on that topic- Android is a great platform for retro game emulation. It can be nice to sit on the couch with a BT controller while gaming on your TV.
So while you sit there and complain about all the things it can't do; try looking at the things that it CAN do. A USB-C to HDMI cable can negate the need to purchase a cheap Chromebook with shoddy build quality or an expensive ultrabook. I mean you already have an expensive phone right? For the masses; this is enough. For power-users; a lot will always be desired. Everyone's use-case is different though.

Here we are in 2021 and I'm still using Dex everyday. I own an I7 desktop but I find DEX just as useful for most tasks and I always have it on me even when traveling. It's a lot easier than pulling out my ROG 10lbs laptop when visiting my parents. Heck it even connects to their tv on the fly, something my laptop doesnt do to share photos. Even gaming on DEX rivals games like Call of duty these days!

To be honest I get white decks for PC doesn't make sense at first.but the way I see it is that if you have a computer with older hardware that isn't able to perform. Basic functions as well as it used to.hypothetically you could install the decks for PC app on there and then be able to continue to use that old hardware. While using your phone as your actual computer. Without having to spend any more money. I mean obviously if you're into gaming or a business-type person or graphic design it doesn't make sense. But I think for the average person to keep their devices for as long as possible or just the average student. It's a good thing

Samsung Dex is great imo, but obviously it depends on what you use it for. Is it going to replace a gaming machiine or a work computer? The answer would be no at the moment, but I would love for my answer to be transformed to a "yes" in the future.
I use Dex at the house and it's just like a computer linked to the internet for surfing, watching videos etc, but w/out paying an extra $50-$100+ a month for a dedicated interent connection. If you "need" a dedicated internet connection to play games, then I'm happy for you.
Also, it would nice to run Windows programs on a Dex and that's what brought me here to your video, but as your experience indicated, it's currently not practical and I appreciate your attempts. Realistically, it may not be doable in the future either, because Windows continuously bloats their software w/ every newer version to become larger and Larger, which I imagine AMD & Intel are grateful for.
What happened to optimizing the software for the resources available? If they did that, for say a subset of Windows software, that would allow you to only install the features you needed to run your Windows software, then it may and of course, it still may not be possible...

It's (somewhat) possible to use Linux with Chroot, but no hardware acceleration, and hacky work-arounds for audio does make it a bit of a deal-breaker. especially as it's an absolute hassle having to switch around back and forth from Xstreamer and XServer (or VNC). it's possible, and it runs fairly well, despite not being native, but it's still... well.... limited. Windows 10 for ARM though. I've never come across any experiments of anyone trying to get this running an any kind of environemnt with any android device. I'm surprised after well over a decade we still can't run windows XP with good speeds on mobile devices. It's not much better than trying to run it on a Sony PSP. I'm sure someone could create a type of "HLE" type emulator, but it's not as a big of a topic as say, Console emulation was/is.
