No joke. I have not seen a Rainbow Gathering in roughly 40 years and assumed that they no longer gathered as they used to come here every year but stopped. Amazing!!!
Wow the hippie culture seems so nice. Being together at peace is a wonderful thing. Isolated from the world and electronics sounds nice too. Just accepting the qualities of life and nature is unique. I love the hippies :^)

There was a rainbow gathering in the old growth forest of the walbran valley on vancouver island. Well they left a pile of trash and pooped all over the place.
Ahhhhh (me breathing). thanks for posting :) i have not been since going to back to back gatherings in 1988 and 1989. glad to see things still happnin' and peaceful. And i agree with a post below proclaiming some hardships at gatherings. i witnessed those who would not contribute yet were comfotable taking. ah well we can't all be perfect.
oh yeah .. As a CBS news videojournalist in the Wash. DC bureau back in the late 80;s I was sent to do a two day shoot near Asheville,, NC to the Rainbow Festival.. State Police all over . DEA agents arresting people heading in. a whole lot of anger from the law enforcement jerks. But once inside almost as confusing. no one in charge. but still lots of fun.. the music was great. very much like my days shooting GreatulDead concerts. in fact I was the last one to film Jerry before he died. I'd just like to say it's not a festival. It's a way of life and a belief that people can come together in peace harmony love and devotion......Cook. LOVIN YOU FAMILY!!!
The kingdom of heaven has come near to you. I think I elevated above everyone at one of the gatherings, because I was getting treated really badly, rudely and unfairly by way too many people over the course of many many days, by those who would preach words like love, peace, and harmony, but seemed to be giving off somewhat of the very most opposite of those things towards me. It's a complete trip, to experience the veil being removed. Hypocrites emerge as clear as day, from out of nowhere, people promoting peace love and happiness, being all about anger, resentment, and deflection. Immaturity waving a flag of maturity, but not living by it. Celebrating the idea of love and life, at the cost of being rude and mistreating another. Not caring enough to reflect, but just resorting to selfish tendencies and upsetness. It's a trip to experience people promoting health, and safety, towards others, but neglecting to give it to another. It's a trip to experience both groups of people attempting to justify their wrong doings, as if they are doing it the the right way. The right way of the world is not necessarily the right way of the kingdom of heaven. How high can one get on spiritualness in the world, a religious leader, or a hippie. Jesus Christ said you'd have to have your righteousness surpass the righteousness of the teachers of the law, if you're to enter into the kingdom of heaven. High spiritualness of the world is not welcomed in the kingdom of heaven. High spiritualness of heaven is. The difference mostly starts in forgiveness. A word, that if by reading it, makes you cringe, then you'll know it's what you need to work on. Forgive easily, mature, apologize easily, make amends.
I lived with a group of rainbows in upstate New York when I was younger they ended up dosing me without my consent. Still have PTSD to this day from what these people did. I wasn't innocent but did a lot of free labor collecting fire wood and getting rid of trash and getting groceries in town on foot and carrying it all back for them. Not kind loving accepting people. The devil masquerades as a angel of light. The family of living light is exactly that. An illusion do not be fooled
These are the people I need in my new life! I live in small conservative town, it's SO RARE to find hippies. The loneliness kills me and eats me alive every single day. 😣
Then move away if youre feeling bad, meetings like this will only help you for some time but it won´t solve the problem completely . ( sorry my english is not very good)
I’ve long been a family member of the Rainbow Tribe, but I haven’t been home for many years now... I used to run my own tea kitchen (for national and food kitchen for regional). I miss the music, the hugs and smiles, the bartering and fire trolling. Maybe it won’t be too long in the future, before I hear “welcome home”.
The man at the end of this video playing the guitar, his name is Jeff Curtis. I met him at the gathering in Elkins West Virginia. He's a great musician and a kind soul. I'm happy I crossed paths with him. We stay in touch to this day.
James Stricler Yes, he's a real groovy guy, I talked with him a bit and enjoyed his music. There's a link to his website below the video. Also he's the guy who says YEEEAAAAAAST!!!!!" Tell him hello from me if you feel like (or not, no biggie), I'm sure he'll remember me if you mention you saw this video and his music in it.
I will tell him you said hi for ya. I tried to take a few pictures and some video while at the Elkins gathering but to many people did not like the idea of being on film so I stopped trying. It's a shame but I understand. I subscribed to your channel by the way. You look like your having a blast down there in Mexico lol. Peace be with you Gabriel.
To call it a festival is rather misleading. There is certainly a festive spirit present, but the word festival has a connotation to it that does not describe the happenings of a Rainbow Gathering. More diverse groups than hippies populate Rainbow Gatherings. To say people that don't wish to be filmed or photographed should go home and hide is a but ridiculous and narrow; there are many reasons for not wishing to be filmed. Also, it is good to let folks know that the Om-ing is a massive prayer for peace.
Sleeping Muse I hear you, but I think it's still okay to call it a festival, especially since I also used the word "gathering". It gets the general point across. The Rainbow Gatherings are beyond words or description really. As for cameras, there were plenty of other people with cameras there and cameras are allowed (this was my 13th gathering). It's a little bit of a tricky issue because the vast majority of people don't care but a select few do. But you can't go around a huge crowd of people asking everyone if they're okay with being filmed. The way I see it, if someone asks me directly not to film them, I will honor that. Someone asked me to turn the camera off at a drum circle once and I did.
Gabriel Traveler Hey, I wouldn't presume to tell you what to do! Call it whatever you wish. I disagree, but then I'm no authority lol. I appreciate being able to catch glimpses of this gathering, especially because I was not there, and I am not objecting to the content of your video, but the comments about those few people's preference or wish to not be filmed.
That is a common misconception, Rainbow gatherings are not "drug festivals" ;) Law enforcement is more likely to use non-lethal weapons, violence is vehemently discouraged by gatherers, rather peaceful resolution is encouraged
Sleeping Muse True, and there are very few altercations with law enforcement inside the gathering. I actually saw a cop at this gathering playing a guitar for some of the rainbow folks. However, I also saw a sister getting dragged away by the cops, for drugs I later heard, so shit does happen. All this time I've wondered what happened to her, if she went to jail and for how long.
absolutely beautiful...reminded me of a town in Ct. I use to go to with friends for the opening of trout season...Pachaug State Forest...little partying and a little fishing lotsa music
I want to sit in silence in the main meadow!! Until the parade of children come of course :) Sounds awesome seriously.. I need to look into going one year
AMaeTV Yeah, they are definitely a life-changing experience. The main one in the U.S. is always early July. That website welcomehome.org will state where it's going to be next. But there are also gatherings that happen all around the world. I even went to one in India once.
AMaeTV Your first one is the best after that they all get progressively less wonderful. I'm telling you when it's over and you go home, things aren't as good. You miss oppurtunities if you hadn't have gone. Most ppl are burnouts, umemployed bums, transient kids with no direction from broken homes, many have some mental trips and there is drug taking, but on the flip side there is some goodness to it as well. Proper responsible adults are the ones that carry the spirit and weight for a good gathering/experience or a lousy one. What ever you do when you go don't be lazy, work and help at the kitchens and setups it's much more fulfilling if you do.
Interesting insight Billy thanks! It seems like it would be fun to participate in at least once, and definitely by helping out.. I love cooking for people!
They were having one of these during a hunting season on a public hunting reserve. Needless to say I think the folks were a bit sketched out. Unfortunately I was the one hunting for doves while they're were nestled very far back inside the reserve but I found them as I was walking farther into the trees since I also had a squirrel permit. Super nice folks though.
im here by chance i did look up festival in the woods (cause i was thinking small music fests but this look fun too being i like to try burning man but i want to one day make my own festival so id like to take things from all over)
I was there to, and im only 18, and it was not very peaceful either, several people got stabbed, and there was alot of fights. But it was still a great time all in all tho :)
@@sammyscotch9945 IKR.. bunch a fake 'wannabe hippies'.. WHAT A JOKE! 😥🙇 It was completely disrespectful to be *NARRATING A MONOLOGUE, WHILE RECORDING HIMSELF DURING THE MORNING OF SILENCE, too...... ?? 😕 Could you not WAIT to explain that until AFTER lunch?!!?
Really nice broo! A person can capture the quiet in the place, and the purification in the soul. I don't see any smoke around there jaja And the guitar man with the two handed tapping sound great! So funny. Cheers bro
the family was at a yasgur 39 yr reunion, that year I attended the festival. By the second day I was brought hungover and very hungry. the rainbow family had a kitchen set up. I was told they was R.F.. They welcomed me into their camp by invitation of a friend of mine "KEMO", they fed me and was very kind to me....
Howdy, Folks! Directions to the 2019 gathering site have been announced. From Iron River, Wisconsin, Take “A” South for roughly 8.5 miles; Take a left onto West Delta Rd (also known as FS Rd. 231) Go 2 miles and turn left onto Musky Lake Rd. (FS Rd. 411) Go 1 mile, turn right on Canthook Rd. (FS Rd. 412) Look for parking options within the next three miles. Remember to park with all four wheels completely off the road. For possibly more up to date info, try the Lightline at 651-356-8842 Drive safely, and Welcome Home! Please consider bringing your own water filter to help support water independence. Welcome Home!
Wil Morris It doesn't matter man. That's just what happens when people walk on the ground. If you're going to harp on that, you might as well say people shouldn't be on the planet. It's a hell of a lot better than covering the ground with pavement and sidewalks. Nature is very resilient....to an extent. There's nothing wrong with the inevitable impacts of humans on the land. The problem is the manipulation of nature such as oil turned into plastics that never break down, nuclear waste, garbage swirling in the ocean, cutting down the forests, spraying chemicals, etc., etc. People walking around on the ground isn't the problem to be concerned about. Peace. :)
Dear Gab, I do hope this finds you very well. I'm very interested in being part of the Rainbow Family and gatherings. Any idea where I should turn to for information, see schedules for upcoming gatherings in the US? Looking forward to hearing from you. Big brotherly hug, Zeke!
They definitely are. This year the gathering will be in Oregon. I might go again this year. Haven't been to one since this video was made three years ago.
My wife and I met this really amazing guy in Lincoln City about 3yrs ago and he told us all about The Rainbow gathering. He says he goes every year. He uad no cell phone so w| exchanged email addresses but i lost access to the email account :( we would really like to cross paths again. His name is ALOT . So if u know him please let him see this. ❤️Amber²
Hi Gabriel, not sure if you read posts on your old videos but anyways, a few weeks ago I finished a book called "Naked in the Woods" by Margaret Grundstein, where she talks about her experiences in a hippie commune. Since then I've been reading about the 60''s, the whole hippie culture in the US and I recently came across these "rainbow gatherings". I'd never heard of them before (I'm not from the US). Then I came here to YT and did a search for it and ... lo and behold, this video was right on the first page. That's so awesome! I've been a subscriber of this channel for a few years now and it was really great to know that you made a video about this. Cool. Cheers!
I haven't heard of the book, but that's pretty cool that you ended up finding this video. I've been going to Rainbow Gatherings since 1993. I went to a lot of them while I was a vagabond during the 1990s. I talk about some of those experiences in my own book "Following My Thumb".
@@GabrielTravelerVideos Wow, the experiences you must've had. Cool. This "Naked in the Woods" is pretty good, you should check it out. And I just purchased your book "Following My Thumb" from Amazon (it was already in my shopping cart before you sent the reply ). I live in Brazil so it'll take a few weeks to get here, but I'll definitely read it. Thanks man, cheers and safe travels!
Awesome bro!! Its soo good to see cameras at the gathering :) no rules yet rule lol wtf. haha. So much light there has to be seen for people around the world and even for those who missed the gathering
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I did see a few other people with cameras. I actually got reprimanded by a guy once while filming at a drum circle. I expected it might happen, so I just obliged and put the camera away, but then took it out sometime later. No harm done, and I figure others will enjoy seeing what it's all about. Definitely an awesome experience!
Gabriel Traveler Why should anyone be against filming at the gathering? And it's not their cal either. You have the right to film in a public place!!! Cameras are great because they are promoting transparency in all areas of life. If someone doesn't like it, they should go home and hide in a corner somewhere in their house. :0)
TheCjcalioso At one time there was a Carnivore Kitchen. The entire camp is designed around various kitchens specializing in somewhat different menu's...mainly consisting of rice, veggies, and beans.
***** I hear you man! I created this channel to help fund my world travels. I put thousands of hours of work into my videos, for which I make a few dollars a day from the advertising. Pardon the inconvenience of a few seconds of your time, to be able to get a glimpse of the Rainbow Gathering experience.
Also if ya dig and enjoyed this video which was cool and still a long haired after all these years though with a changed heart and peace 😀 you may also enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. Also I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on RUclips. 😀
WoW! These people should love the quiet undeveloped mountains and jungles of deep Africa, they. Would have so much more in common with 98% of them than the 2% of us locals they invade, uninvited! African back bush tribes would find them interesting, if not tasty.....they have so much in common.
Can anyone give me a ride to the 2016 Gathering in S Vt? I'll be ready to leave Greenfield, MA on June 28 or shortly after. Share expenses and stories.
Why so sad? Children belong in nature just like anybody. I was raised like this and was in the top 5% of my class, got a degree, and continue to be A Nice Person. Are you THAT against camping? There’s no alcohol allowed so it’s actually a safer & healthier scene than most American cultural happenings.
Love these gatherings, just hope everyone is respecting mother earth by packing in and packing out.
Yes, the site is cleaned up afterwards.

These are the people I need in my new life! I live in small conservative town, it's SO RARE to find hippies. The loneliness kills me and eats me alive every single day. 😣
Then move away if youre feeling bad, meetings like this will only help you for some time but it won´t solve the problem completely . ( sorry my english is not very good)
Leave. Find a better place to live.
Never trust a hippie
I’ve long been a family member of the Rainbow Tribe, but I haven’t been home for many years now... I used to run my own tea kitchen (for national and food kitchen for regional).
I miss the music, the hugs and smiles, the bartering and fire trolling.
Maybe it won’t be too long in the future, before I hear “welcome home”.
Gorgeous scenery
Sleeping Muse Right on, sounds good, I hear you.
Love Jeff Curtis!!
1:15 - Wheeling in the buckets of Acid
they SHOULD be wheeling in buckets of douche and bath water !!
Bc ur brainwashed by society believing in the corporatists that sell products... douche your brain.
Haaaaaaaaaaaaa
i consider myself a hippie (a person who lives life counter culture) and i loved this video.
absolutely beautiful...reminded me of a town in Ct. I use to go to with friends for the opening of trout season...Pachaug State Forest...little partying and a little fishing lotsa music
Nice prime shady spot, that is priceless when you are roughing it
I love your videos, I learn from this one, I think is very cool even tho I will never go to something like this. Thank you for sharing
peace with the Gathering thank you for
sharing peace
☮️ peace and love
Aww my friend Happy Jack was part of the family 🌈
Who cares?
HIPPIE means: Highly Intelligent Person Pursuing Infinite Enlightenment
What date and where? Also Utah has an ELEMENT 11 Festival its like Burning Man
I want to sit in silence in the main meadow!!
The tune in the end is wicked!
I wish I could go !!! oh and happy earth day ✌🌍
I'm a hippie and I've always wanted to go to these
Awesome😊
We love you!...
Slater novick 12:20 acoustic tap. Beautiful.
Slater novick Yeah, real sweet guitar playing there.
I loved it there brother
Hum theres this documentary about Rainbow Gathering 2008 called We Love You
Lovin' you family
Wow so wish I could go!!!
The best camp spot to get caught by a tick
😂😂😂
That "nice little shady spot" looks like it might get a bit wet on the ground side, but my gosh it's pretty out there. :)
im here by chance i did look up festival in the woods (cause i was thinking small music fests but this look fun too being i like to try burning man but i want to one day make my own festival so id like to take things from all over)
I'm smell them through the video
I was there to, and im only 18, and it was not very peaceful either, several people got stabbed, and there was alot of fights. But it was still a great time all in all tho :)
Geeze stabbings fighting
Clearly, you were only 18.. & CLEARLY it was A SHIT TIME, DESPITE YOUR ENJOYMENT of things *VIOLENT ... @ A RAINBOW FESTIVAL!!-?
@@sammyscotch9945 IKR.. bunch a fake 'wannabe hippies'.. WHAT A JOKE! 😥🙇
It was completely disrespectful to be *NARRATING A MONOLOGUE, WHILE RECORDING HIMSELF DURING THE MORNING OF SILENCE, too...... ?? 😕
Could you not WAIT to explain that until AFTER lunch?!!?

I would love to experience this
Really nice broo! A person can capture the quiet in the place, and the purification in the soul. I don't see any smoke around there jaja And the guitar man with the two handed tapping sound great! So funny. Cheers bro
Gabriel you fit right in! Will you be coming to any more gatherings? 🌈 🙋
Thanks, yeah very likely I'll go to another one someday, not sure when though.
What do you call that style of play?
“Uhh just two handed” 🤣🤣🤣
Your TeePee is great!
Thanks for posting! Great video. Would love to attend!
Hold that camera steady, boy, and pan it slow!
OREGON IS THE PLACE TO BE!
This is crazy. I was there!
the family was at a yasgur 39 yr reunion, that year I attended the festival. By the second day I was brought hungover and very hungry. the rainbow family had a kitchen set up. I was told they was R.F.. They welcomed me into their camp by invitation of a friend of mine "KEMO", they fed me and was very kind to me....
Great video, thanks for sharing your experience 😀

Must be a weekend no ones at work
Haha.
No one works
Wow!
Thanks for sharing
Got to admit though, that's an awful lot of soil compaction in an otherwise pristine mountain meadow
Peace. :)
The whole area gets re seeded as well
Dear Gab, I do hope this finds you very well. I'm very interested in being part of the Rainbow Family and gatherings. Any idea where I should turn to for information, see schedules for upcoming gatherings in the US? Looking forward to hearing from you. Big brotherly hug, Zeke!
A great way to finish this digital media- stay till the end
I wanna be here!
this is so awesome
They definitely are. This year the gathering will be in Oregon. I might go again this year. Haven't been to one since this video was made three years ago.
Gabriel Traveler im moving to Utah in two weeks thats how i found this video. ur super cool
Right on, thanks. Hope you enjoy Utah, it's a beautiful state.
@@r.otaviano Right on man, enjoy the reading!
LSD WILL SAVE THE WORLD
GARRY HIXON what does this have to do with this video?
allready has
No it won't.

Exactly.
@@drahcirnevarc9152 oh yes it will
Awesome bro!!
Beautiful. I thought it was to be silence, then you edit in music-- not silence??
they need a mcdonalds there, just kidding ha ha.
TheCjcalioso At one time there was a Carnivore Kitchen. The entire camp is designed around various kitchens specializing in somewhat different menu's...mainly consisting of rice, veggies, and beans.
thanks Bro!
8:04 - awesome guitar
Or..minimalists into yoga ?
Did you guys have to watch an advertisement before the video popped up? What's an advertisement doing on a Rainbow video?
Split pea soup.. from the Great Circle🤣
My tent was to the right and in a little further than the white tent at 00:57
These people are happy and that is all that matters.
WoW! These people should love the quiet undeveloped mountains and jungles of deep Africa, they. Would have so much more in common with 98% of them than the 2% of us locals they invade, uninvited! African back bush tribes would find them interesting, if not tasty.....they have so much in common.
Woodstock was eons ago. As Paul McCartney said " let it be " .
Well don't go then.
Can anyone give me a ride to the 2016 Gathering in S Vt? I'll be ready to leave Greenfield, MA on June 28 or shortly after. Share expenses and stories.
Seeing the children at these things just breaks my heart.
Why so sad? Children belong in nature just like anybody. I was raised like this and was in the top 5% of my class, got a degree, and continue to be A Nice Person. Are you THAT against camping? There’s no alcohol allowed so it’s actually a safer & healthier scene than most American cultural happenings.
Good video man, looks really interesting. Have you been any of the rainbow gatherings in Europe?
I haven't been to one in Europe but I did go to one in India once that was small but pretty awesome (mostly foreign travelers).
