- In this Dialogue episode, which aired on July 19, 2001, Marcia Franklin and her guests talk about the effects of the Rainbow Family gathering on central Idaho’s Bear Valley area. More than 10,000 of the group’s members had gathered in a mountain meadow and called Idaho home for a few weeks, causing consternation about potential damage to salmon spawning habitat, as well as law enforcement issues.

I saw them in Costa Rica and they seemed good to me. It was towards the end and everyone was good. They are not perfect but are much more positive than the general population. There were no hard drugs there as far as I know. Lets discuss the enviromental impact of Tampa, FL instead of criticizing a group of idealistic people who are putting all their energy into building a better society. We're over-analyzing a group of people who are operating on spiritual principles. I just hope they can keep coming together. This makes me want to rejoin them. Its about social control and not the enviroment.
You can't build a better society with the gospel message. Any attempt to do do will end in failure! Just as the hippies of the 1960s failed to implement their idealistic values these Rainbow people will experience the same results.

I went to the Idaho gathering in the 80s. The trail in was strenuous enough to keep the drunks in the parking lot. The kitchens and bathroom facilities were well organized. Wavy Gravy was there exhorting folks to clean after themselves and organized the cleanup after. I had a wonderful time there

This was my 3rd national and the most beautiful gathering Ive been to to this day. They handcuffed this one kid by a six up on a giddy up and he was circled and ohmed till the kid got away. Sadly things are not the same since it became more known through the internet and A LOT of normies started to come and exasperated the drainbow problem. You dont go to a gathering, you go so there is a gathering if you know what i mean. The kitchens arent there to serve you, they share with you and you need to put in work.
I didn't hear of anyone mentioning the 1st amendment right to assemble.. a biological OPINION isn't superior to the constitution. Permission is not required to exercise a RIGHT.

if cows can poop all over the ground, humans are equally capable of pooping into holes and trenches....why haul in porta potties to then be processed by municipal plants when the fertilizer can be of real benefit to the land when treated appropriately.
Harry Hugs is a person who used a shovel and almost beat to death 2 people at a rainbow gathering. They were life flighted by air and lived. Harry then served time in a California prison. That he is the face represented here is unfortunate. Rainbow Gatherings are a real mixed bag.

Its stepping out of your normal comfort zones. It's similar to a vision quest. Much is learned, healed & experienced. Please don't criticize & judge things that you haven't experienced first hand. @@galapagoensis Idk what that person is referring to when he says "horrible mess", it is awfully vague. From my experience at gatherings people are usually always welcoming and loving. I've been to many and have made quite a few lasting relationships. You can learn a lot about yourself and others there. Expectation is something that can ruin your experience no matter where you go or who you're with though. A lot to food is supplied and no money is exchanged but if you go you should plan on being self sufficient but most likely your needs will be met if you are in need of something. Lovin' you🙏💜☺️
@@galapagoensis For decades now I've been curious to experience this odd phenomenon called a rainbow gathering and I finally went to one about a year ago. It was a strange, fun, and unique experience - and I prob wont do it again, but everyone was super-friendly and it never felt unsafe. One bit of advice though,... don't accept any candy from strangers. And bring your own food & drink.
