These videos are basically becoming an ad for that nebula/curiosity thing. I tried it once with a 3-month trial. i canceled it in 2 weeks because there's little worth watching. All content there is high quality ofc, but most of it is also available on youtube, it still has ads and you'll run out of content in a few days of watching what interests you. If you want to tell a separate story that is related and plugs at the end of the video sure, but this here is ridiculous
I also pay for nebula, but rarely watch any of the content over there. I find there are some things missing: comments and playback speed for example. These two are pretty important to me, so I decided to pay Nebula as it is not too expensive and I can support my favorite content creators, but I keep watching their videos on RUclips. To be forced to switch to a far inferior app is bullshit in my opinion...
Not even a link to the Nebula version of the Video in the description... do you even care ...? And please just tell me before I watch the video that there is a nebula version
I'm already a nebula subscriber and have been supporting you guys over there for a few months. Making me go over to nebula just for two more minutes of content rubbed me the wrong way. I'm paying for it already anyway, but it would really suck to sign up for nebula based on this ad/recommendation only to find out all you're getting is a few sentences.
For anyone curious about the name: Chinese companies often have official English/Western names that are phonetic approximations of their Chinese name but don't mean exactly what their Chinese name means. This is because asking a non-Mandarin speaker to casually pronounce a Chinese name accurately would be a bit challenging due to the differences between Mandarin and western languages, and a literal translation may not always be the most appealing name for a company. - TenCent's name is a phonetic approximation of the characters 腾讯 (téng xùn), which literally means "soaring news." - WeChat's name is a phonetic approximation of the characters 微信 (wēi xìn), which literally means "micro-letter" ("letter" as in the document and not the alphabet). This is true even for companies that aren't in Mainland China. For example, Taiwan is home to a ton of computer companies whose official Western names are nothing like their Chinese names. Acer's Chinese name is 宏碁 (hóng qí), which sounds absolutely nothing like "Acer."
@@PEK-97 Would not even be that bad of a name hell the original term for the short text messages mobiles send was SMS literally an abbreviation of Short Message Service. We don't hear about the Chinese giants that often, but man I feel they will soon overcome all the companies we know. The Chinese market is ruthless, much ruthless than anywhere else in the world. Those who survive are the most hardcore competitors.
So true. I’m a Chinese currently living in the US. I use Uber Eats to order food delivery, And it feels like a featureless beta version app. It’ll definitely die in Chinese markets where the competition is unimaginable.
Totally wrong reason to explain why ant group ipo was cancelled by the state. The main reason is ant posted a financial risk to the state financial system and they didnt want to make it even bigger risk with the ipo.
The BAT abbreviation is merely a coincidence. As a Chinese I can tell you that prior to 2020 barely no Chinese have heard of anything related to bat cuisine, not to mention considering it edible. If anything one can heard at that time, there was a tourism promotion video of Palau, made by the "president" of the "Republic of China" (commonly known as "Taiwan" although these are two very different concepts) Tsai Ing-wen, talking about her experience eating a bat soup there (she has made tourism promotion video to all countries recognizing her government on Taipei as the government of China instead of the one in Beijing, and Palau is just one of them). Bat cuisine is very Pacific thing and has its root in their culture. Honestly I won't blame them (although most Chinese express their hate against bat-eaters since they know their existence in 2020), because that's just how the indigenous find a way of living. Before 2020, every year there are people who either visited those countries or influenced by certain culture, and consumed bats. That's it. It's like you can easily find snake, ostrich, venison, alligator, etc in American butcher shops that is almost exclusively visited by White Americans but most White Americans probably throughout their whole life won't know that one of the butcher that they visited does sell those thing. Most, however, have heard of bamboo rat (a herbivore species size similar to a guinea pig or a rabbit) cuisine, due to an Internet celebrity named Huanong, who is a farmer raising thousands of bamboo rats. Unfortunately after the COVID-19 hit, his farm got eradicated by the Chinese government due to their one-size-fits-all approach, and we miss his funny vlogs about his bamboo rats.

You forgot to mention that unlike credit card system, the WePay system Tencent created doesn't take a cut of every business transaction, making it even more popular than 'pay with cash' for small business owners -- which turns Tencent into a public good which most American companies certainly are NOT. This gives the chinese government reason to look favorably upon it.

I still don't know what Tencent it.
Well, pay the Nebula sub and you might know

China probably wouldn’t like the expression "across the border from Hong Kong".
There is an official border though. The passports are different. And trust me, if CCP didn't want that border to exist, it wouldn't be there.
But it is?
nah Chinese people will just hear it as "this is how ignorant outsiders are about China... yet they like to judge us... what a joke"
@@bw1678 oh it's already happening
@@dejectd2972 it happened decades ago when Hongkong was officially returned to China. Keep in mind that the only reason this issue even exists is because of European colonial crimes. The city has always been part of China, it is again and the only reason why it ever had a special status was because the CCP decided so a couple decades back.
We really shouldn't treat HK differently than Catalonia.
Really enjoyed watching that. It's surprising how few people have heard of a company like Tencent!

So, the whole video was an ad?
The Chinese people all know that the purpose of enterprises is to develop the economy, and the ultimate purpose is to serve the people. In China, the interests of the people are above everything else. In the Tang Dynasty, there was an emperor named Li Shimin. He said that water can carry a boat and overturn it.
I was and still am considering giving Nebula a try, but the way this video's ending was treated left a pretty sour taste on me. Not going to boycot it because of that, but this was really disappointing. I hope this doesn't become the norm.
