Good job on installation. I have used a few of those Metro loops and by far my favorite aftermarket loops! I do small scale custom amp building/repair in Northern California. Good channel, enjoy your content! Dan
I was adjusting the loop on my Friedman (basically a copy of this lip) with an improvised oscilloscope (with computer) , measuring signal at the input of the top and then on the output of the loop. I realised if I adjusted the levels for low frequencies it would be out for hi frequencies (100hz vs 2khz)... what frequency did you measured it?
Re the “ error “ leaving the choke out. In a recent Psionic channel he showed a Marshall HW amp that had a hum and buzz and it was traced to a transformer that was not set to 90 deg to the adjacent transformer. I noticed that your choke , because it had to go in the middle of 2 transformers already at 90 deg would then be in the same orientation as one of them . Is that a potential soured of noise? I saw the ‘79 Marshall had the transformers and choke all at 90 deg to each other ( the HW in Psionic had a build design flaw). So.. big coils of wire next to each other.. 90 deg or not ??
It’s the relationship between the PT and OPTX that causes electromagnetically coupled hum. In this amp the PT is already rotated 90° relative to the OPTX. The choke is indifferent to placement (at least in this amp)
I have a '76 JMP 2203 that I wouldn't mind having an fx loop on... but it would ruin the value drilling into the rear panel. I don't think I could do it.
@@RiftAmps I have a Splawn and the loop also has a level control. It is very effective at getting good tones at a low volume. Frankly, any loop in my future is going to have that. I guess it could be described as a master volume for the preamp.

Thanks, man!
"What's an inch between friends?" 😂😂😂

FWIW a very similar loop kit is available from tube-town in Germany, bit more affordable if you are in the EU.
There’s a €160 minimum order value for orders to the UK, so that rules it out!
@@RiftAmps Ah - the minimum limit looks like it's for UK (I'm in Ireland so didn't have that).. humph..*cough* brexit *cough*

1kHz is standard 👍

Do you prefer the Granger? Do you notice any little difference in sound after installing these?
I like them both, and I can't hear a tonal change when installed.
Hey Chris, so what's the Dexter? It's not on your website, so a new line, perhaps?
Look up ‘John Nathan Cordy’ on YT and you’ll find it 👍
Would there be any voltage changes if there was something in the loop?
Of course, that's what pedals do.
@@RiftAmps daft question!!

Try and find a backpanel, keep the original one clean and mod the newly bought one.
I understand that, of course. This customer, however, isn’t worried about value as much as functionality so adding a loop isn’t an issue for him.

How much value are we talking about, a few hundred dollars? It's not like anyone is going to get rich off of these amps anyway.
what do people actually do with an fx loop?? in 25 years of playing i’ve never used one
Often useful for time-domain effects such as reverb and delay so the FX isn’t affected by any preamp gain.

That loop is very noisy, to much background noise
Not my experience, it’s wonderfully quiet. Perhaps you might re-check your installation?
