Beyond the press 28°c
Beyond the press no offence, I'll pass on that. not my cup of tea bud.
you guys are awesome just wanted to say that
Hi
Beyond the press are u Finnish from finland if so Hei
I love the whole "This amount of Fahrenheit."
Yes
Lol
He measures temperature like he's telling a big fish story. *Spreads arms* "It was *this* much fahrenheit, guys I swear!!!"
They are in Europe and still converting to Fahrenheit for us
Varm. Varm. Varm. Cold as fuck.
Classic.
Funny they did it again, even with the same shaped steel lol. Only this time all about 20°C higher.
btw. He also touched the hot steel in water... Idk if that's safe, the temperature-sensing may be different in water, like getting burn before realizing it's really hot.
mi rek, it's safe. The Mythbusters have quickly dipped their hands in molten metal and they were completely fine, but only because they first put their hands in water - so I'm sure this is much, much safer.
Mimocool67 so i can dip my hands into molten aluminum long as they are dipped in water first??? cooool!
hugh janus For about a few milliseconds, yes. Not even long enough for an entire second. Basically what happens is, is the heat creates a layer of steam between you and the molten metal for a brief second. Look up the Mythbusters video.
She is hotter than the steel
And his accent is stronger than the Press. You guys make an awesome couple😉
you deserve more thumbs up for that one

"Easy to calculate, but not that fun." lol Being an engineer myself, I totally understand. hehe
Engineering in a nutshell.
Could figure out specific heat of the steel and water, determine energy transfer and even work out temperature over time with Newton's cooling laws. But that is boring
*3.3 Degrees Celcius.* (Roughly)
20kg of very hot steel (An educated guess of 1400 Degrees Celcius) holds about 500 Joules of energy per KG per Kelvin.
Q = mcDeltaT
20KG x 1380C(1400-20)(Water Temperature) x 500J = 13,800,000 Joules.
Water has a specific heat capacity of 4184 Joules of energy per KG per Kelvin (Degrees C). Assuming the tub is holding around 1000 Litres of water (1000 KGs / 1T), with 13,800,000 Joules of energy it could heat the water up by:
DeltaT = Q/mc
13,800,000J / 1000L x 4184J = *3.3 Degrees Celcius*.
So, in conclusion, *VERY* roughly, the water will increase in temperature by around 3.3 Degrees Celsius.
Captain Thermo strikes again. Thank you. :)
Did you expect over one hundred likes?
He said it's 3-4 cubic metres of water, so about one degree.
I guessed no more than 5 but probably closer to 3. I guess Fahrenheit though. Still not bad for a wild guess.
without doing any math or looking at the numbers, just going off the picture my guess was "maybe a few degrees"

Ok I'll start with some geometry. The tub is octagon shaped. Using Lauri's wingspan as a reference, I would estimate the tub to be 6 feet (1.83 meters) across. The length of each side is then 30" (0.76 m). The bottom portion of the tub is enclosed by a smaller octagon approximately 2/3 the scale of the upper octagon (4 feet or 1.22 m across and 20" or 0.51 m on one side). Each octagon is filled with water to a height of approximately one foot (0.30 m). The formula for the area A of a regular octagon in terms of its side length s is: A=2*(1+sqrt(2))*s^2. Plugging in our side lengths we get areas of 2.77 m^2 for the upper octagon and 1.23 m^2 for lower one. Multiplying these areas by our heights gives us the water volumes we need: 0.844 m^3 for the upper portion and 0.375 m^3 for the lower portion for a total water volume of 1.22 m^3. Water at 20 Celsius has a density of 998 kg/m^3. Multiplying our volume by density gives us total water mass, 1218 kg. Specific heats of interest are 502 J/(kg C) for carbon steel and 4184 J/(kg C) for water. In this scenario the water has a thermal capacitance equal to 1218*4184=5.096*10^6 J/C while the steel cylinder has 20*502=1.04*10^4 J/C. The water stores 490 times as much thermal energy per degree change in temperature compared to the steel cylinder, so the water temperature will rise one degree for every 490 degrees the steel cylinder cools off. If the cylinder starts at 1400 C we can solve for the amount, x, the water temperature rises until equilibrium temperature is achieved: 20+x=1400-490x. 491x=1380. x=1380/491=2.8 degrees C. The final equilibrium temperature will be 22.8 degrees C, only slightly warmer than the initial temperature. This analysis assumes that enough time is allowed for the cylinder and water to achieve thermal equilibrium with each other and that there are negligible heat losses to surroundings. Temperature readings taken before equilibrium is achieved will be subject to spatial variations due to the temperature gradient that still exists in the water.

This made me laugh today guys, and I needed that! Many thanks :)
For those of you who are interested, here are the calculations assuming that no heat is lost to the outside environment (which is not actually the case, so these calculations will not perfectly fit the scenario).
The specific heat formula, as follows, relates heat lost/gained (Q), mass (m), specific heat (c), and change in temperature (DeltaT).
Q = mcDeltaT
I will set up two equations using this specific heat formula, one for the water and one for the steel.
To find the mass of the water, I will assume that the tub holds 4 cubic meters of water (that's what he said in the video 1:30). The density of water is approximately 1000 kg/m^3. Multiplying volume by density yields mass.
m = (1000 kg/m^3)(4 m^3) = 4000 kg
The specific heat of water is 4184 J/kg*K.
c = 4184 J/kg*K
Change in temperature is the difference between the final and initial temperatures of the water. It is said in the video that the initial temperature of the water is approximately 20 degrees Celsius (1:00). Since we do not know what the final temperature of the water will be, I will call the final temperature T. Since a change of 1 degree Celsius is equivalent to a change of 1 Kelvin, I will represent the change in temperature in Kelvin so that I don't have to keep typing "degrees Celsius".
DeltaT = T - 20 K
Therefore, for the water,
Qwater = (4000 kg)(4184 J/kg*K)(T - 20 K)
Qwater = 16736000T - 334720000 J
The mass of the steel is 20 kg.
m = 20 kg
The specific heat of steel is approximately 490 J/kg*K
c = 490 J/kg*K
It is said in the video that the steel will be heated to 1400 degrees Celsius (0:49). Therefore, this is the initial temperature for the steel.
DeltaT = T - 1400 K
Therefore, for the steel,
Qsteel = (20 kg)(490 J/kg*K)(T - 1400 K)
Qsteel = 9800T - 13720000 J
This is where the assumption of a closed system (no heat is lost to the environment) comes into play. If no heat escapes the system, then all heat lost by the steel must go into the water. Therefore, the heat gained by the water must equal the heat lost by the steel.
Qwater = -Qsteel
16736000T - 334720000 J = -(9800T - 13720000 J)
16736000T - 334720000 = -9800T + 13720000
16745800T = 348440000
T = 20.8076 degrees Celsius
This value is the final temperature of the water, so the theoretical change in water temperature, assuming a closed system and that everything said in the video is correct, is
*0.8076 degrees Celsius*
I hope that quenches your thirst for knowledge. If anyone notices an error, please let me know.
Dang u is smart af you need to teach me
I think he over estimated the volume. An 8ft hot tub I found is only 500gallons which is just under 2 cubic meters. And their hot tub isn't filled all the way. So I think the temperature would increase a bit more.
Not even 1 degree Celsius. Do you think it was her body heat that made the water’s temperature go up then? Maybe it was the sun which explains why only the surface of the water was warmer.
i did a similar thing but with more gueestimations and got 20.84 C so i assume that the water didn't get mixed enough or their guesses on volume of the pool and temperature of the steel were wrong
This really puts into perspective how much trapped heat it would take to raise the global temperatures by 2 degrees.

The specific heat of iron is roughly 11% that of water.
So given 20 kg of orange hot iron (~1000°C) you'd get about 2 000 kg*°C for water - just enough to heat up 2 m³ water by 1 °C - negligible.
Was about to say, it's a fun experiment, just not a necessary one.

Fahrenheit is better for human reference, Celsius is better for water reference and Kelvin is better for absolute reference. Since he's going for human reference seeing as it's his Wife, Fahrenheit is better. His aim for 100 degrees is on point.

It doesn't make sense that we use such a stupid system of measurement. I do remember learning metric in school, but I think it's just old people who are too afraid of change that refuse to allow us to fully change.

BTP Extra Content : Feeding the sheep
HPC Extra Content: Feeding the Press the sheep
These are the types of math problems we do in chemistry class
A little bit of fun math: Steel has a heat capacity of around .12. Water has a heat capacity of 1. Heat capacity relates to how much energy is required to heat something 1 degree celsius. This means that for every 9 degrees of temperature lost from the 20kg steel, it will heat 20kg of water up 1 degree. I am going to guess that tub is around 1000 liters(kg) full so somewhere around 500 liters with how much is in it now. That means the tub is 25 times the volume. So to heat the whole tub 1 degree would take 25*9 or around 225 degrees from the steel. 1400 C/225 C is approximately 6 degrees Celsius which is the gain they saw. To get it to body temperature (36C), they would have either had to use a steel cylinder weighing 3 times as much (60kg) or increased the temperature times 3 (4200C) or some mixture of the two: 40kg weight at 2100C for example. Really cool to see.
Verse bro, what?
ThatBoyFrosty it's the science behind why the tub didn't get as hot as they hoped.

I have a suggestion for your regular hydraulic press channel. I'm a welder, and I've always wanted to see cold welding. The idea for those that aren't sure what it is, is that you take two very clean pieces of metal and press them together with a lot of force, then they will contact weld. Or, if you have a vacuum handy supposedly just pressing them together with your hands will weld them provided they are clean enough. A better explanation is here - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_welding
