- The term Tornado chart evokes some kind of wild or natural images and the butterfly chart give you the sense of serenity. Whether you use one term or another, the chart is basically a bar chart that goes both ways. If you're into data visualization or infographic charts, you might have seen these type of bar charts to flare out to the left and right sides. It's not too hard to create these charts so check out the video to learn how.

Hi Sathya Sorub, thanks for the comment!
Hi Doug, this demo was excellent. I know that this is a few years old now, so thought I would add a comment about something I noticed in O365 in the hopes it saves someone else a bit of time. When doing the scatter chart step, I followed the steps, but it kept converting the entire chart to a scatter chart rather than just the series.
In O365 when the "Change Chart Type" dialog appears, it will be set to "Combo" by default. When I click on "X Y (Scatter)" like your demo, that is when it converts the entire chart to a scatter. What I had to do, is in the "Combo", scroll to the "X-axis" and change that to a "X Y (Scatter)". After that, everything is the same as you stated.
Thanks for the great demo!
Hi Martin Carnegie, thanks for adding to the thread!

Welcome!
Hi, do you have MAC version?
Just a quick question - at 8.31 the data totals suddenly change to something different, have I missed something? Probably me being daft.
After amending the Scatter Graph I seem to end up with the values at the bottom being too far to the left.
Really useful guide though once I get to grips with it!
No worries, I worked that out soon after! Thanks, it's really useful
May I ask about how can I manage lots of data such as a thousand or ten thousand (compare budget year 2016 and 2017)in main categories, it may 5-6 categories). Thank you for your help
You might want to use PowerPivot or PowerQuer to summarize the data. I've got a few videos to peruse

Hello, It was very helpful. But I am facing problem in inserting standard error bars for left side bars of the graph. Could you please help with it?
Hi Sai Karthik, sorry I don't do consulting :-( ....but try to post on the mrexcel.com forum!
Hi Sir, need your help, when i am trying to convert x -axis to scatter diagram, the whole chart is converting into scatter instead of just x axis. M I missing something here. Thanks
maybe it's the steps sequence on how it's created. Maybe this can give some insight ruclips.net/video/hCAbxtkZoVg/видео.html
This works but the gap set at 25 isnt even on my chart; im using values 0-100. Can’t figure out the problem.
Dunno what happen but try other ways? ruclips.net/video/QIkdXcDsEno/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/SGr-uzAGrD4/видео.html
