Awesome to see a review of an older UHD of a classic film! I hope that Lawrence Of Arabia, The Wizard Of Oz, Singin' In The Rain, It's A Wonderful Life, Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, and all the Hitchcock films released in UHD (including updated reviews of Rear Window, Psycho and Vertigo, for example, to account for all the new methodology of your reviews, now including WCG analyses and HDR heatmaps, and I also hope that a non-Hitchcock film like Casablanca gets an upgraded review) are coming soon!
I already watched it in 4K and it's one of the best looking 4K discs I ever saw... Even though sometimes it's a little bit too smoothened out and filtered but it still looks great
It looks nice in terms of utilizing HDR but Alien seems to keep getting tweaked a bit with every release. The last blu ray was very teal in places and that seems to be brought down a bit. I think this tweaking started when the directors cut came out and on the quadrilogy box set. The first widescreen laserdisc has a very different look but apparently the element was not in good shape. I just wish the orange/teal filtering would stop. This film is like 95 % close to being a perfect restoration. At least the colour change was not as big as on Aliens and they brought that one back a bit on its 4k, too bad the master has been degrained/AI sharpened to hell and back. At least Alien isnt that bad :)
@@martinddhyj maybe a little bit but if you look closely at parts of the shuttle near the end. On the 4k disc, it looks like there has been a filter applied over it, like a wash. It doesn't look natural. If you look at the same scene on any of the laserdiscs and dvd's, it is not there. The first laserdisc is very different and some have thought that the print was a bit faded or its brightness was pushed too much. It looks more like a 70's era film. So if that's the case then the 95 laserdisc would have been the first to be altered.
See James Cameron? That's how you do it.
I've owned this movie on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and now on 4K and goddamn, it's never looked as good as it does now.
One of the best film transfers to 4K ever.
Now THAT'S a 4K restoration, not some upsc-AI-led crap.
I don't agree. I think that AI upscaling is the future.
@@cavalierdecoupe You're wrong and clueless about FILM restoration.
@@cavalierdecoupe There is a place for AI upscaling. Film restoration is not it.
absolutely, an easy miss.
@@cavalierdecoupeAI upscaling looks like waxy garbage
Just listen to that Jerry Goldsmith score frigging Awesome

The Thing as well. no ai, no bs.
I re-watched the 4K disc the other night (to go with the new 4K of Aliens), and yeah, this disc does look REALLY great!
yeah it is an outstanding upgrade to the 1st film. no ai, no need!

A slight teal and orange grading has always been part of “Alien“ and “Aliens“ (theatrical prints).

5:10 suddenly i want some cereal with vanilla yogurt.

Don't agree!
AI upscaling is the future
I will stick with the blu ray from the Anthology, which are re mastered put in a 4k player and it up scales perfectly no need to upgrade.
Oh boy, what a remake
Is this the highest peak brightness 4k blu-ray off all time? The fire is over 1400 nits.
No one can compete with Godzilla ;)

Kind like the way the blue ray looks

nobody watches movies that close where you see every grain. Bluray colors look better 4k looks washed out
Wow, this is pretty bad...
Lmao
What?
Too grainy for my taste. Please upscale old movies with AI!
