Thankyou for all of your video's, as a new guinea-pig owner, your video's have been an absolute god send! 😊 so a big thankyou from me & my guinea-pigs!
We had a hay room for our two piggies, but realized one was just sitting in it all day and eating. While I love the hay room, we had to go back to hay racks (one for each piggy) and increase floor time to help get a few pounds off one of our piggies who was developing a bit of chunk. Love the videos!
I feed my girls small pet select Timothy hay 2nd cut, they deliver to Ireland and they use a loyalty program so you can get money off your next orders they often do 15% or 20% deals, I've been purchasing their hay for 2 years now and have no complaints the piggies love it
Hay there! 😃 Yes it is for us unfortunately - I found the Haybox one is actually the best value, I'll double check I got the link right, but it worked out only double the cost of the meadow hay (£13 versus £25) for a similar amount (it's a big box!) which is still quite a bit of money but far better value than the Small Pet Select small box! x
I know Lyra is a good reader, but is the amazing Willow a speed reader?????? I love this video so much! When I first had piggies, I made up a "hay song" about the wonders and love of hay, for some wacky reason. They did NOT care for my off-key singing but loved the sentiment. LOL
Haha I love how you always notice the strange little bits I put in these videos! 😄 The hay song sounds awesome, I bet the pigs liked your singing really! 😀
@@SqueakDreams I used to edit videos and wanted to be a movie director when I was younger and I always noticed weird things in the background and have been obsessed with that ever since! heheh I tend to focus more on the background sometimes than the main story in some cases (not with you - you're so fun! I swear!) in movies so much that I miss what is going on sometimes in a movie because someone is doing something weird. P.S. My cousin's cat loved my terrible singing for sure. He was always coming to rub up on my legs when I would sing to him. I could even say outrageous things to him (only as a joke) and he loved it. LOL
I feed my girls with orchard hay and it’s actually great for my allergies it’s not as dusty and i’m able to get it in bulk so it’s lovely also btw love your channel!!❤️
We feed Timothy hay - we give them a couple different brands - it gives them a nice variety.. our piggies Tucker and Chewy both love their hay… Tucker’s favorite are the pieces with flowers on it.. We’ve had a pair of 2 yo male piggies for a few months now… we took them in from a lady who didn’t have the time fo4 them… I’m trying to get my son to feed more hay every day…. Right now he only fills the hay rack once a day…. They usually take about 3 hours to eat most of it…. I’m trying to convince him to feed more., Luckily , When my son works they get more hay from me… I stuff their hay rack full! And I’m also the one who gives them their veggies…. So they really love me…lol.. we feed Timothy hay - several different brands - we almost always buy in person vs online because we can see the quality and color… and we also choose the best value..
In Australia, the best hay to use for Guinea pigs is Oaten Hay. We struggle to find Timothy hay here, and it’s extremely overpriced and what I’ve managed to find are subpar quality.
Hi Wendy! Fed alongside regular hay yes 😊 they just provide hay in a different form so might encourage your pigs to eat more and the larger ones are good to pop in too if you're going to be away from them for a while!
My six are really fussy about hay and the only one that they seem keen to eat is oaten hay especially when it is still quite green. Is this a suitable hay for full time consumption?
This was very helpful, thank you! Can I ask ask what pellets you recommend as I seem to struggle to find any my piggies like that haven't got alfalfa in. I know its not as important as hay or veggies but would like to have them on something that is isn't going to harm them of course!
Thank you! Yes I would recommend finding one without alfalfa if you can - timothy based pellets are the best I think. I feed Burgess Excel, a popular one here in the UK 😊
@@SqueakDreams I'm in the UK too and tried burgess quite a few time but only one of my pigs seems to eat it haha. Thank you for the fast reply though! I really appreciate it!
Hello sweetheart, I have a question actually. I normally just feed Timothy hay but I don’t like the dust that comes with it, and also he said not to feed alfalfa hay but you had a huge bag of it and I’m wondering if you just use it in small quantities or that is a good hate to be a staple? I’m kind a new at this I have two guinea pigs that my niece wanted to rehome. And I just want to be able to give them a happy and healthy life, but I don’t want to buy Tennessee mixed with alfalfa if it is bad for them. I guess I’m just confused as to why you have this he on hand if it is bad for them. Thank you so much I enjoyed all of your videos and watch every single one of them! God bless
Hi there - timothy hay is recommended as one of the best hays for guinea pigs. I do not feed alfalfa hay (which shouldn't be given to adult piggies), perhaps it was misleading because the *brand* of hay in the first bag I hold up is called "Alfalfa King" - but their timothy hay is 100% timothy! :). I now order my timothy hay from Haybox in the UK which I find to be better quality and less dusty. Perhaps you can try some different brands of hay and find a better quality one? Online subscriptions services tend to be good quality but more expensive. I do still use meadow hay in the bottom of their litter tray - instead of woodshavings or any other natural litter too. It's okay to mix different hays, just avoid alfalfa. Hope this helps!
Ideally the adults shouldn't have the alfalfa hay, so it can be tricky if you just have loose hay. I have bought alfalfa hay cubes in the past and fed them to the babies individually for laptime. You can also use high calcium fresh food that you just let the youngsters have, such as parsley or spinach :)
i bought the small pets select 2nd cut hay and it looks nothing like your's, it is lovely and green but very small strands and almost dusty.. is it supposed to look like that?
Oh no! I have a feeling like I might have read some similar reviews though - maybe it was on a different box size - but either way no the hay was not small pieces or dusty at all and it shouldn't be like that. It sounds like maybe them trying to sell on a bad batch! I would give feedback and maybe try get a refund if you can!
The container is also all the hay I have for them should I stop doing that and giving portions of that hay or should I just continue leaving that container of hay
They cannot have too much hay, if you did feed portions the hay would still need to be avaliable to them unlimited 24/7. The hay should also be fresh, so I guess think about whether keeping the hay in their cage is the best place to keep it fresh, also would they benefit from added space without it 😊
I feed my boys hay that I get from a local farmer! They love it and sometimes I buy a small package of "special" hay which has herbs in it.
That sounds yummy! 😃

Wow. Great video. You are really easy to listen to

This was so cute🥰 and also educational. 👍⭐️

I get some lovely Devon hay for our herd! I think I'll give some Timothy hay a try soon too. Great info as alway, thanks Sarah!

Hi thanks so much for sharing so much info . I have learnt so much with you. Could u please let us know what are your thoughts about Oaten Hay? Thanks
I feed my piggies timothy hay in a hayrack😊. Theyre 5-6 months old and they get really excited when I give them new hay.
Oh yes piggies love it when the new hay arrives definitely! Thank you for commenting! 😊
Thanks so much I’m always unsure how much hay my pigs eat but they love it!

Oat hay is high in fat. Do you have access to meadow or orchard hay?
Timothy hay pet select
Can’t find good hay in the states for our piggies besides the Timothy! Really wanted the dust free hay
I have since also tried oat hay and orchard grass hays from oxbow which they enjoy too 😊
I have a low hanging hay feeder and they still manage to poop in it. 🤷🏼♀️
Hahaha oh dear!! 😂
Are compressed hay cakes good? My guniea loves them x

I live in india so which hay should I use
Is it true that you answer if you are early?
I try to replay to all comments 😃😃
I have a big container of hay in my guinea pigs cage would that lead to over feeding, or them getting over weight?
The container is also all the hay I have for them should I stop doing that and giving portions of that hay or should I just continue leaving that container of hay

Ok thank you I will definitely start putting them portions
Is it okay if I feed them food with hay in it? Or do I need separate hay?
You definitely need separate hay, it is essential to wear the back teeth down and for digestive health, as well as enrichment 😊
Question why are your guinea pigs so fluffy
Haha they just are 😆
@@SqueakDreams ok
Can guinea pigs just eat meadow hay, where i live they dont sell it in any pet shops
They can eat just one sort of hay yes :) whether that's timothy or meadow hay. Just trying different brands alongside each other can add variety 😊
Only way to maximize a long life, is hay.
