  • I'm aiming for "An hour with..." to be every Thursday.
    Today me and Tom go for a quick blast in his first car, a Toyota Yaris T Sport. Its great fun to drive and feels powerful given its light wait and short gear ratios and reasonably powerful engine. If it feels powerful for me (after driving the 106 TURBO + 208 GTI), then for a new driver like Tom it must feel like a beast.
    For reference this car was much faster than my 98bhp Saxo VTR but was also slower than my 106 GTI when it was in NA form @ ~140bhp.
    Here is the mod list -
    - EBC Turbo Dimpled + Grooved Discs
    - EBC Yellow Stuff Brake Pads
    - ANTS Short Shifter
    - Apex 30mm Lowering Springs
    - HKS Induction Kit
    - Cusco Front Strut Brace
    - OMP Rear Strut Brace
    - Custom 3” Exhaust System leading to a Blitz Nurspec-R Silencer
    - Genuine Vitz JDM Toyota Rear Led Lights
    - Stage 1 Clutch

    This was my first rapid little car. Will always cherish it. I now drive a 208 GTi which has double the power and torque, but somehow driving fast in this little T Sport was more rewarding...it had a true old fashioned race feel to the engine that performed noticeably better the closer you got to the red line with its NA engine, whereas nowadays every car has a turbo with low revs torque meaning there's little benefit to revving the engine hard.

      Colin Chandler check out my videos on the 208 gti. I owned one and went to the nurburgring in it! Great cars. There is something special about an old na engine though i do agree

      @@rowanlewisuk That's awesome! Once my GTi is closer to its final days I'd definitely be tempted to run it around the Nurburgring or a UK track. It's effortlessly fast with the turbo boost and I love the handling with the little steering wheel... I'm not sure I'd want to go back to having a big steering wheel again as the small one just feels so much better! I'll still always prefer quick NA cars for the instant responsiveness and top end performance, but sadly they are rare these days so I'm not sure if I'll ever own another one. I'll take a look at your GTi vids.

    Not a bad car .. people underestimate but it’ll take most 2.0/1.8

      @rowanlewisuk  5 лет назад +1

      I'd put it in the same league as a modern fiesta ecoboost acceleration wise. Handling a bit sketchy but I hear they are a lot better with some mods and decent tyres

      @Adz_Win 5 лет назад

      Driveway Developments my t sport ain’t that bad but the 1.0 eco boost is pretty punchy , I had raced one but I’d say he was just a tad in front of me and fiesta got better handling still, the Yaris on a straight cant be touched especially if you revv the shit out of every gear!

      I love the t sport. I have the sr version phase 1 of mark1. Only a 1.3 but has tte backbox and suspension as standard. It is quick for a 1.3 but its the t sport i need and want badly 👍

    Such great little cars! I had two but just sold one. The other I kept. It's a 2006 RS 5-door. It had, like Tom's, the 1.5 but I swapped that out for a 2ZR-FE. That made a big difference, but I was in search of a bit more power, so I installed a 2008+ Corolla turbo kit. Needless to say, it required some modifications. right now at around 8 psi, I'm making about 180 whp. Pretty quick for a 2300lb car. I actually find the suspension to be very solid. I did install a TRD read sway bar and pushed the rear wheels out 10mm with hub (not wheel) spacers.
