that sounds like 😮😮 the engine is out of time ⌚ 😮 turn the engine until the no 1 piston is on TDC / top dead center 😊😊 and look and see that the rotor button is no 1 the distributor cap it may be off a tooth 1 way or the other U have 2 completely take disrubutor out of the engine 2 do this / U 😊😊 check W a timing light 1ST U have 2 use a timing light 2 see the timing marks there should be 2 lines or a dot and a line or 2 dot also the valves may need 2 be readjusted if U have a owner manual 4 that tractor 🚜 😊 it would be a great help or U will 2 look the specs up on line also U have 2 turn the engine over 4 this U can do this by hand W a wrench the vavle adjustment may not be the same 4 the intake and the exhaust valves U have 2 turn engine over 2 do 1 side then the other side most tractors U have 2 a wrench and a flat head screw driver and a set of feeler gauges 4 the vavle adjustment get help if U have 2 another would be a great help take your time do it right 👉 😊 and then check it again that's how it is done I would also clean the points W sand paper the points 2 may need 2 be replaced W a new set / check W a meter and check the points gap 2 see what it should be set at 😊😊 I hope this helps 2 shovel this problem it also can be a bad rotor button or a bad distributor cap when it dark outside or turn the light off in a room take a good flash light look close and see if U can see any cracks in the distributor cap there shouldnt be none the old ignition parts can still used 4 spare parts unless they absolutely junk and no good at all U should also check the coil W a meter 2 see what kind of current it has the spark should be bright blue it maybe the coil is bad 2 I seen that on a john deere tractor 🚜 😮 1 time ⌚ 😮 be 4 😮😮 OMG 6 17 2O24

The C113 is a simple, and pretty much bullet proof engine. We had 3 Bs over the years, among many other models.

A lean fuel mixture can cause a backfire, but more than likely it's an ignition timing or points issue, you will need a timing light. Also check the manual to see if timing is to be set with the engine warm/hot or cold
