Hi Sue. Yes they should be the same. When you buy them from the Garden centre I always check they are firm and the best size of the bunch on display. Sometimes when you buy them later in the season you can find some already spouting in the bag. But buying later is a risk as they can sell out. I have posted another video where I show some I started on trays with perlite. This may help as they are more exposed to light as well as being in the free draining compost. Always keep them moist but not water logged. I really hope this helps.

If you have a few Dahlia plants leave one tuber in place and then put lots of leaves on top to keep them a bit warmer. See how you get on
