It was always unequal, but Expo 86 really sealed the deal. Concord Pacific among other huge developers are calling the shots. City hall just sit by and allow it.
I used to be homeless. Then I decided to get a job. Doing much better now. Sometimes all you need is a new mindset, if you keep believing you are a victim then you will never be able to rise above it.
Your mindset, needs a punch! I bet you were living on a friends couch, for a few weeks & had all the other provisions, to get you back on your feet, very easily. You didn't live in these kinds of conditions ever or you would have more compassion! Some of these people are disabled or injured with broken legs & some even work their regular job still, while they have no apt or house. Think before post ridiculous comments, next time! 😘

Vancouver is like Hongkong, Chinese from Hongkong have Canadian Citicenship, Hongkong Chines have British Passport.......Chines from Hongkong can do what they want in Vancouver. Original Candian Indian ,cant do what he want... without Money like Chinese....
I haven't been down to that area of Vancouver for a while. There never used to be tents all over the place but I guess these people have nowhere to go. They have shut down a lot of SRO's and encampments at the parks. They just keep trying to move these people away but it doesn't look like they are going anywhere. Everyone deserves to have a place to live. The rents have increased so much that I really think we are going to continue to see more homeless people. The rich are getting richer and more people will be displaced.
They just need to work. Lazy people. Life is tough to everyone and not easy. I wonder if rich and successful people flee Canadá, it will become like Venezuela.
Calling it a homeless issue is part of the problem. It's not - its a drug and mental illness issue. IF we can't call it what it is, then we cant solve it.
I used to walk through this are occasionally about 50 years ago. I don't ever recall there ever being a homeless situation at that time as is the case now. It just shows how much we've failed as a society over the decades to care for the most vulnerable among us.
my granny used to take me down to Army&Navy on Hastings and it was mostly staggering drunks back then. Most had rooms. Now its crazy drugs. My mom lived & died on those streets mid 80's.Spent a few days on Hastings few years ago searching for a friends daughter and was met by nothing but kindness esp from the Indigenous women camped in Oppenheimer. I've never seen anything like East Hastings street and I'm from New York AND lived through the 80's!! Nowhere in NYC looked like this, nowhere not even the South Bronx. How does the Government allow this?
I'm from Vancouver so I can shed some light on it. E. Hastings is a mix of mentally ill, addicts, runaways and homeless from colder parts of Canada who came here because the weather isn't as harsh. It's got a mini economy as well. It's not dangerous in the way America is dangerous. I've walked through at 3 sometimes 4 in the morning and never felt like I was in danger. I've even sat down and chatted with some of the street residents late at night over a beer or two. And yes, if you ask around you can definitely get your hands on whatever you're looking for..... drugs or sex. There's also community outreach and we built community gardens that the residents tend to themselves. You won't get that by just looking at the walking tour. Don't get me wrong though, for the street residents in the sex and drug trade, yes it can be downright dangerous for them. It's a tough city from a housing standpoint because it's the only location in all of Canada with such a mild climate and ease of access to both the ocean and the mountains. Real estate is at a premium that's for sure. And finally, there's a good portion of the homeless that prefer to live on the streets. I know it sounds ass backwards, but it's true. The responsibilities for rent, utilities, taxes... etc are facets of life that they simply don't want. And, believe it or not, alot of the street residents have their network of friends that they share close bonds with. So they won't leave the streets anyway.
I was recently in LA and saw the same thing. There are so many factors that cause homelessness. But, the one that sticks out most to me is the widening of the income gap.
BC has enough public housing, these people want to stay on the streets because the housing has rules like, getting treatment for your addiction etc. It's getting worse because the policing policy from the mayor has changed to supporting their bad habits.
@@D3UberD3 so what? If rent is expensive in SF, LA or any city - people can go to cheaper city. Somewhere in Taxes or something. Or to another country like Poland, it's developed better than States already and 5 times cheaper. And no homeless people.

bahaha Dubai is better than Canada? you have lost common sense. Dubai is expensive as all fuck and doesn't have 1/10th of our infastructure. Plus half the projects are borderline pipe dreams. Balanced on the head of a needle I say. our issue is that the safe supply/harm reduction experiment has clearly failed and we now need to change it up. that money should be spent on the cities not just it's addicts.

But they don't care. They really don't give a flying fig about the humans. It's all about lining their pockets with backroom greasy handshakes with "developers". It was always unequal, but Expo 86 really sealed the deal. Concord Pacific among other huge developers are calling the shots. City hall just sit by and allow it.
Powerful video. Thanks.
Good for u, a new mindset is what most of us need. We all have a niche to fill in this World and it's our duty to find it; whether through a job or volunteering. It takes a village to raise a village! 1💚
Hmmm mindset isnt all about, you need opportunity and action to make it realize
@@xSMOKExEMxALLx are you better qualified to judge?
So you were homeless and then decided you didn't want to be homeless so you magically transformed your circumstances to allow you to not be homeless? I'm sure that totally happened. Tell me, do you think that the people in this video want to be homeless?
I have never seen something like this! I was expecting something else from this city ....Living in London I was interested to visit but once I have seen this video will never happen to Vancouver but maybe I will ghange my mind and go see
the natural landscapes!
I been to Vancouver in the mid 90"s for a few days. Beautiful sunny day something else wish I had a chance to experience. Vancouver B.C I believe in you, for heeling will be even better then ever.
Welcome back
I’ve seen videos of homeless people in Los Angeles and Las Vegas but Vancouver I didn’t expect this. I’m from London uk I’ve not seen this here on our streets on this massive scale.
You are right . IN MY OPINION
New name for Vancouver is Dirtycouver
Soft on crime, government supplied drugs, hug the thug policy is to blame.
Vancouver has ALWAYS been worse than Portland. Where do you think they get the ideas?
If u r from London please visit Brixton, Streatham, stone Bridge Park and so many other areas at night, even police wouldn't dare to go at night
Wow stay safe , brave walk
Thanks for sharing, wish all the homeless safe and warm!
I LIKE WATCHING VIDEOS LIKE THIS THANK YOU FOR SHARING
Not only in Vancouver. Even before the Plan d mic/ scam d mic. There were noticeable increase of street dwellers in Montreal.
Montréal is nowhere near the level of chaos of Vancouver
В России такого нет..
Vancouver is like the California of Canada and Toronto is the New York.
Fentynal arrives at the West Coast before it makes its way to Toronto or NY.
Vancouver is like Hongkong, Chinese from Hongkong have Canadian Citicenship, Hongkong Chines have British Passport.......Chines from Hongkong can do what they want in Vancouver. Original Candian Indian ,cant do what he want... without Money like Chinese....
I can appreciate this video, really bad. Thank you for sharing!
Solidarity towards those people in need is a hard reality. Greetings from Perú, thx for sharing.
At least they can have some shelter from the heat. Thank goodness.
They just need to work. Lazy people. Life is tough to everyone and not easy. I wonder if rich and successful people flee Canadá, it will become like Venezuela.
Drogas
@@johannsteinberg6218 “they just need to work?” you are an extremely sheltered person.
Calling it a homeless issue is part of the problem. It's not - its a drug and mental illness issue. IF we can't call it what it is, then we cant solve it.
Nice tour real life
I used to walk through this are occasionally about 50 years ago.
They have lost so many people.
Hard to believe this film is two months ago. It's now November 2022 and look how much were just swirling around an open sewer now. I long for MY old Vsncouver
Fully watched to your Magnificent walking tour video captured, wonderful place
the author of the channel has balls of steel to walk around such areas with a camera😃
Justin T's Canada ladies and gentlemen! I heard it was bad but this exceeded my expectations 10 fold! Wow, just wow!
He taught drama in Vancouver in his early 20s. He was into drugs and young students. Other teachers who worked with him say he had partties at his place and supplied drugs to his high school students. He's sick.
What has happened in Vancouver has been generations in the making. Nice try, but you can't blame Trudeau, or anyone else for it.

It’s Vancouver. The weather is mild there compared to the rest of Canada. Houses are really expensive too.
Lived in Vancouver most of my life …. I simply avoid the ten blocks of one area ….
10 blocks? How about every park from trout lake to downtown.
Wow East Hastings looks like it has gotten MUCH worse. I had the misfortune of walking through this neighbourhood at midnight back in 2019.
Vancouver es hermoso! Desgraciadamente llegó también el fentalino 1:30 ...

Beautiful canada
Thanks for the video, safety first.
Visited Vancouver for the very first time in the spring of 2022 to visit my daughter.I had a great visit and saw some of the beautiful sights of the city and the vast areas around it.I went by bus through that part of Vancouver and it was sad to see,but again, it seemed to be just a small portion of that vast city. There are many cultures and ways of living, sights and eateries to see in Vancouver and surrounding areas, and you have to see it all before you can judge it as a whole.I found it educational and beautiful and will go there again.I also biked Stanley Park and visited all the areas within, highly recommend it.
Great video.

You gotta hand it to the mayor and NDP government for doing such a terrific job.
It's a bit more complicated than that, going back hundreds of years. This didn't happen overnight obviously
@@randyrandall8274 true but that just makes it more evident that the government didn’t do their job as this progressed
@@randyrandall8274 it kinda did happen overnight. The moment the city announced their policy change in this area, they all moved in overnight. It is 100% a result of political decisions.
I think the real unavoidable lesson of this is that safe supply and harm reduction as a method of tackling drug use and abuse has clearly failed as a tactic and needs to be removed and replaced.

The situation is bad in India' they talk very great of Canada God have mercy on the homeless people'
I've never seen anything like East Hastings street and I'm from New York AND lived through the 80's!!
Nowhere in NYC looked like this, nowhere not even the South Bronx.
How does the Government allow this?
Seems like the words "Canada" or "Canadian" and "dream" don't belong in a single sentence anymore
The government went woke, now the city is going broke.
Go to Philadelphia much much worse
You are wrong. In the early 80's the South Bronx was depopulated and the housing stock was reduced to rubble.
I'm from Vancouver so I can shed some light on it. E. Hastings is a mix of mentally ill, addicts, runaways and homeless from colder parts of
Canada who came here because the weather isn't as harsh.
DEAR LORD I pray for a long cold winter, coupled with the preaching of the Gospel
I was recently in LA and saw the same thing. There are so many factors that cause homelessness. But, the one that sticks out most to me is the widening of the income gap.
No, the biggest reason is giving support for homeless. You will be surprised, but there is no homeless in Poland, Mexico, etc
BC has enough public housing, these people want to stay on the streets because the housing has rules like, getting treatment for your addiction etc. It's getting worse because the policing policy from the mayor has changed to supporting their bad habits.
rents going up and so is drug addiction.
@@ProTeslaVolt rent is insanely high too
@@D3UberD3 so what? If rent is expensive in SF, LA or any city - people can go to cheaper city. Somewhere in Taxes or something. Or to another country like Poland, it's developed better than States already and 5 times cheaper. And no homeless people.
Thanks for the info.
